Friday Night Lights wa based of the Odessa Permian Panthers 1988 season because that year the town was going under and football was all they had left the real Panters lost to Dallas Carter 14-9 in DKR stadium in Austin Texas but it was that season that was very insperational to the town Carter won the title game but 3 years later was stripped of it due to unelgiblity that was covered up yes a year later Permian won the 1989 5a state game and was undefeated but the 1988 season was the inspired 1

Yeah and Permian didn't even go to state in 88, they lost to Dallas Carter in the semi-finals. Dallas Carter beat Converse Judson in the championship game. If you look in the records you'll notice something strange about Texas HS 5-A football 88 season . . . they had no state champ that year, The Cowboys had to give up the title due to inelligible players on the roster. It should have been MOJO vs the Rockets that year. The movie was based on true events people, a book, not an exact reinactment.
