  • The earth is perfect, on it's own. Man, is the one w/ the problems. The population growth is so out of balance, it just seems like everyone is starting to panic a little in worry about thier own ability to live decent. Pointing the finger at the wealthy. It goes way deeper, & has become very complicated. Where to start? listing the problems, & changing them. We have a HUGE work force now in U.S. since the imigration. Shut down robotic labor, is a start. People can do it, & get paid. Gotta start!

  • monster along with don't step on the grass sam time for another revolution just to get back to where the founding fathers invisioned

  • And this is Oakland, 2011 and NYV 2011 and many other places as well. Our elected government cares only about the rich.

  • This song is SO relevant still today.

"America, where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters?

Don't you know we need you now? We can't fight alone against the monster."

  • yeah john kay and the band were way ahead of their time....one of the truly legendary rock bands

  • OIL?

  • When I was 16 I listened to this album for hours! What a great band. Thanks for the trip!

  • ... this is great: layered and complex, both instrumentally and lyrically. And it represented an era of risk-taking and social commentary in art, something beyond the comfortable conventions and sanctimonious sentiments of society.

  • America, where are you now, don’t you care about your sons and daughters…..?

Are you so selfish as to in-debt your children more by people that can't control the power they think they have. THEY ARE THE MONSTER.

We have been here before. It is time to go a different direction.

No matter how far. No matter how long.

  • Steppenwolf ruled with me and my friends back in the day. This song was just a small example of some of the great songs they made. Had a chance to see them in 71, but a huge snowstorm crippled the area.

  • please everyone,do you love the USA?montanais struggling with the med.mar. issue.what the fu.i have primary progressive MS.the ONLY THING THAT HELPS MY MIND,IS OUR GOD GIVEN HERBS.THE GOVT.MUST STEP ASIDE.THIS COMING FROM WELL,THE WORST SUFFERER OF MS I KNOW.PRESCRIPTIONS ARE NOT THE ANSWER.PILLS.NO.MARIJUANA YES.............PHARMECEUTICALS,GO AWAY,MANMADE EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OUR GOVT.IS SO,WELL,FUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tweeds9999 What are you on tweeds. You make no sense. Your responce to this song...from the Vietnam era...not our Medical marijuana time? is nonsensical. I am from Montana...am I paying for your Medical mary jane or What?????

  • the problem is, that if any American politician dared truely defend the common people and became a real voice for change, he'd be squished by the advocats of the>>"Status Quo"!.....this is why so many idealistic novices on "The Hill" just fold up and follow the leader!

  • @2125554200 its a shame a lot of people never listened including our President in the White House right now

  • The most imporant staement starts at 6 min and 50 seconds of this song. NUFF SAID

  • @oldhippiefromthe60s I would have to agree, the problem is that most that listen to this song have no idea what John Kay meant when he said that.

  • Una Band straordinaria ! .. Di più : una Leggenda !

  • I saw John Kay and Steppenwolf live at the Jersey Lily in Amarillo in the 80's. Man, they were loud! It's was physically painful. I'd be surprised if John can still hear these days.

  • Still so relevant... A great song by a great band... Thanks...

  • now its a monster and will not obey. enuff sed, boyeeeee

  • I have loved this song ever since I first heard it in the 70's. Powerful lyrics coupled with great music. As powerful today as when I first heard it.

  • The music is really good! Do you have the original version (21 min.)? On video?

    Thank you for this gift.

    Nelson

  • @mamasboy815 Forget Reagan....he was a prince in comparrison to this Obama nut..

  • @DsveysNavy Reagan was the appointed chamber maid for the administration. His hollywood profile was a mask for the tyranies facade. From it came the Brady Bill which is the monumental breakdown of our second amendment. The Republican administration has cleverly consealed this through different paid for media giants The American Rifle aso. Which was a group of hunters&colectors are now infiltrated with the same chamber maids! Hollywood! A message of deception aimed at supporters of second amenmant.

  • if only we could

  • This song was a statement of the times! Still holds meanining today. Rock on !!!

  • right on,, keep resisting,,,, thumbs up...

  • To astaroth333777 ~ Yep, gotta keep on keeping on... cheers! ☼ ;-j

  • want to put your trust in Government....ask an Indian....

  • this song is about human/political/awarenes and is a warning to be aware what is going on in the world. i am 61, the music of this time is less engaged. something like- it looks nice, but what is in it?- even in jazz/hiphop/rap it is too ME-centred. and then i listen to Steppenwolf again...

  • Comment removed

  • love steppenwolf but the bassman seems a little scattered in places,

  • WOW

  • Our Government has grown to be even a bigger Monster in todays world.

  • Heftigt....

  • Government = monster on the loose

  • Many THANKS!

  • I can remember listening to this in the early eighties (the Reagan years), and thinking that nothing had really changed since they recorded this song- and now it's even *more* true...

  • This song brings back so many memories of days long gone. One of the greatest songs of all time, IMHO. This is more of a protest song (of sort) even though most seem to accept it as an anthem of sorts. I can dig the lyrics.

  • And once the ties with the crown had been broken

  • VIDEO!!!!! wooooo I were there!!

  • Ask all the Talking Heads,

    Just one Question.

Do You, You, Defend Individual Rights from God?

Do You, You, Defend Collective Privileges from Government?

Answer this Question on the Record.

    Show me you’re Proof!

  • Government Collective Privileges are the Foreign and Domestic Enemies, Destroying Individual Rights From God.

Indict and or State Secession is the final Solution.

    Laws do not Change consciousness,

    Consciousness Change Laws.

  • Untill these things happen unto you--then you won,t wonder--and iam a white guy-lol

  • it never gets old

  • Listen up folks - this is STILL AMERICA!!! I was 19 when this came out - WOW! Made my skin tingle - a rocker that UNDERSTOOD AMERICA??? Damn, that is pretty awesome - I sure didnt - except the bastards were trying to get me into a no - win war in Vietnam. I would have gladly gone there if - IF you allowed me all the killing i could do - so i and my AMERICAN buddies could come home OUTSIDE a body bag. AMERICA first - kiss my ass rest of the world - God, guns and guts made AMERICA free !!!

  • @MrHansAryan Amen

  • @MrHansAryan I'd say God, Guts & Glory made America-come on, the shining truth is: we fought for our freedom with intelligence, defiance, cunning, some midnight rides & only if it actually came DOWN upon us did we use hand-to-hand combat, a few rebel yells, & then a weapon when we were absolutely threatened on our very lives & the lives of our fellow Americans. Then we simply did what was necessary to defend our brethren, the # of our ranks, if you will. I have no problem w/guns, character won!!

  • @Gentsyetta

Wake up and understand that this song is about exactly the type of jingoisms you're trying to feed us here!. Just saying patriotic sounding sentences doesn't make us the "correct Americans".

Until we accept that we are not better than everyone else, America will be at war with the world.

  • this is a great song but google seems to put a commercial ad at the bottom for change from the obamaites real sick

yes we need change empeach obama and his fecal matter freaks now they are out of control no rhyme or reason for their treason

  • @micknm i woody pelosi

  • I remember this song/album when I was a little kid back in 1970, it shook me back then at that young age and it still moves me..what a heavey song and message. That chord that they keep banging out at the 3:16 mark on up to the 4:00 mark really builds up the emotions. No band or group on the airwaves today even comes close to this song or any by Steppenwolf for that matter. The groups and bands of today are just to shallow, plus they play what they're told by the record industries.

  • hard to believe in the other video--steppen wolf is getting down on things and that politicain is sitting there clapping along!!!!!!

  • I totaly agree. This song is as true today as the day it was wrote. America needs to be on watch. Our freedoms are been taking from us at an alarming rate each and every day! America needs to wake up!

  • JK got it right on this one! Ya, we"re not perfect and we have our faults, but God gave us a great and unique land with a God given heritage that is worth preserving! To answer the question of "where is America?" It's as close as your bended knee. We are so far down this path of destruction. Is there a way out?

  • Forget Satan's distractions.

Shutdown and Indicte the Federal Reserve Bank Stockholders.

Our just keep fanning the flames of fire with more Satan distractions.

  • Thank you for posting this. This was my theme song even though I was only 14 at the time. I am going to borrow it and post it on the MSNBC Newsvive commentary section that follows a story about the Billions of Taxpayer Dollars missing in Iraq.

  • Great song!! Very patriotic. People, John Kay in this case, from other countries appreciate the US that those born here!

  • SteppenWolf never got the credit they deserved...... they were hot !!!

  • Back in 1968 the government wanted to put all the "hippies" in some sort of penal system. The thought was that if the government could just round up all the "hippies" and put them in Concentration Camps - just like the Japanese in WWII - then the world would be safe for all the free capitalists to rape and pillage and get rich at expense of all the helpless non-thinking sheep.

    Then this song came out,

    and was squashed.

And we got what we got.

    Go back to sleep,

    America, where are you now.

  • i think these new world order cops these days need to listen to this alumn they seeem to forgot the freedom of speech,, i was shocked to see on youtube cops arreseting people just for freedom of speech in washtinton dc only about 2 or three yrs ago

  • This song is so true, because the government is wasting money on stuff like building prisons and putting people into jail and look at the economy right now. I see that the thing of "land of the free" is just a bunch of bullshit.

  • Only God will bring about change. Only God's Kingdom will rule righteously on the earth till time indefinate. "COME OUT OF THE WORLD AND BE NOT A PART OF HER GOVERNMENTS. God's Kingdom Rule....

  • @1antlerman yeah right.............

  • This song is even more applicable now then it was in the '60's. The government needs to stay out of our personal freedoms and the choices we make.

  • A song about America growing up with all the pains that go along with it. The words tell the entire story. John sounds as good today as he did on this song. Saw him years back in Charlotte, NC. Rocking!

  • excellent!

  • Love y'all Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You don't pay taxes to banks idiot... keep drinking the koolaid..

  • John Kay has a passion for America

In the Evacuation of East Prussia in early 1945, in harsh winter conditions, his mother first had to flee with the baby boy from the advancing Soviet troops. In 1948, the two fled from Arnstadt in the East German Soviet occupation zone to resettle in Hanover, West Germany-(From Wikipedia).

From there to Canada in 1958 Then to L.A.

This song is John Kay's warning To all of us

Those who fail to learn from the past

are doomed to repeat it.Protect your freedom!!

  • @roseband1 I totaly agree. This song is as true today as the day it was wrote. America needs to be on watch. Our freedoms are been taking from us at an alarming rate each and every day! America needs to wake up!

  • @roseband1 Yeah but no one likes Americans cause there all fags so you're wrong.

  • @12345JJBB An obvious American hater, go live in Iran...

  • @rick7531 I hate patriot idiots, that think in us vs them. A lot of them live in America. Now where would you have me live?

  • @crazymarf If you hate America, and Americans, I would suggest another country. One of your own choosing. "Us vs Them", Do you understand Comtemporary American History?

  • @rick7531 How can you hate a country without ever having visited it? I don't hate America, i hate the patriot (and religious) mentality that seems a lot more important then rational and scientific mentality in your country. It's all in-group vs out-group logic, and it just makes America as a people seem stupid.

BUT there's no use in hating a continent is there? Ok, there's not a lot of use for hate in the first place. But i do hate the aforementioned mentality.

  • @crazymarf were not all like that a lot of us don,t like being put in a group .some of us Americans are fighting that ..wasn't always this way .its how the ruling class try to keep us divided .were are trying to get out from under it .don,t be surprised to see a Revolution in this country sooner than later .we march in the sixties .its coming again we want our country back ..

  • @crazymarf There are many things wrong with America, but I wish to live here. Yes,I can " hate" another country without visiting it. It was called Nazi Germany.

  • @rick7531 The Third Reich, how convenient. They were a better nation than Fascist America. Now pay your inflated mortgage, have a Starbucks, and keep thinking of the great country you are a slave to.And in conclusion they had a leader, unlike America, who has a schill.

  • @crazymarf I can see why u feel that way about America because what u said is true. But let me tell u, as an american, alot of the people here arent like that. Our stupid ass government just makes us seem that way. More and more Americans are starting to realize how corrupt our government relly is. Mark my words, there will be another revolution before the end of my lifetime, and i will be here to take part in it.

  • @roseband1 amen

  • this was my bible in the 60s and goddam the person who does believe these lyrics.this is as true as it was then is now

  • Steppenwolf was an underated band and the Monster really showed their musicality, dynamics and political message which is true today.

  • Comment removed

  • I never understood or listened to the words except "america." I saw STEPPENWOLF at philadelphia's electric factory around 1969 or 1970. John Kay had, if my memory serves me right one of those guitars that had a big round metal "thing" in the middle. Great concert, and this song ....I like the music and his voice and the intensity of the song. But the words , gee I ain't no politcal ............

  • the best

  • The farther we go down the path, the more we go in the back tracked steps of ignorance. 40 years later we are still the Monster...PS I am a conservative and hate the direction of this country.

  • what song my them goes like earsplittingloudenboomer

  • That is the name of the song. It leads out with a German newsman talking about the A-bomb dropped on Japan. Since nothing like that had been seen before, it was referred to by that name.

  • FUCK Glen Beck

  • Fuck Glen Beck? Fuck you!

  • Listen up all you righties, this song was written during the Viet Nam war and was a protest against the Nixon administration. Not a rallying cry for Glenn the stooge Beck!

  • What you say speaks to the truth contained herein (In this video). Times morph but truth is constant. Think about it . . . Those in power are misusing their power and not representing us accurately. Not during Nam and not now. Peace to all.

  • You're only part right. It was written to protest and warn about out of control gov., and how ignorant sloths can destroy this country. Ergo, thou must be one of THEM. And what is it about Beck that bothers you? That he is a patriot, or just that he is right?

  • Listen to the words, listen to our government, wake up before it is to late. As far as GLENN BECK he will fight bad government and ignorant liberals til the day he dies.

    THANK GOD

  • If you've heard of them, they're part of the beast. There is no good or evil, only corporation.

  • @dago2732 Yes, listen to the words - Steppenwolf HATED the conservative scumbags who were ruining this great country 40 years ago (and still do, when they win elections).

  • I got a monster in my pants

  • The lyrics are as timely as they were when originally written.

  • i dont see a video - & the song is about back to the land

  • Kayjay83

Anything appearing in the video box is referred to as "a video", even if it only contains a single 'still'.

The song is about corruption as much as anything else ;-j

  • @ELGROOVER what ???????????????????

  • @ELGROOVER i agree

  • I think this song is about the people who make money from money and don't produce anything

  • Mr. Elgroover: Thanx for posting the video. Your Panem et Circenses reply is SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!

  • For someone to take an Anti-Vietnam War anthem like Monster and relate it to Glenn Beck in any way is a travesty. That's like saying that Martin Luther King would be a Republican if he were alive today. It's idiotic.

Oh and thanks ELGROOVER for the video. Brings back tons of memories.

  • Thanks XOkie. I'm an Okie too. Living in SF right now, but thinking of going back for several reasons, mainly family. This song brings back tons of memories from early 70s, and makes me think I was right all along... Am I stoopid?

  • Mr. Taxpayer, why do you fund WMDS? My guess is that you really hate little children, OR you really love your lifestyle, OR You are really scared to be different. Mind you these are only guesses. Only you can say for sure.

  • Hic sapientia est: PERIODIC TABLE OF THE ELEMENTS. Qui habet intellectum computet numerum bestiae. Numerus enim hominis est. Et numerus eius est secenti sexaginta sex. Vocatur nomen eius Verbum Dei.

  • Panem et circenses.

  • @markmaraquin sperak fucking english

  • The point of the song is that America is apathetic to the government turning into a monster. That could apply even more now than back then. Obama is turning us into a socialist dictatorship run by czars and a controlled media. And America sleeps.

  • "America, where are you now?" is directed at our elected officials and those who elect those officials. A plea, in other words, for the people to stand up for themselves (via the government) against Corporate America, which tears everybody down... FUCK GLENN BECK... I can't say it enough.

  • How ignorant can you be? This was and is an anti-government song cautioning you to be careful of a large and oppressive government, not imploring the government to protect us from "Corporate America."

America was set up to protect individuals from a central, oppressive government. The Bill of Rights wasn't written out of concern for corporate america. BTW, who puts food on your table, builds the car in your driveway and power to your house? Grow up.

  • @LarsJohnson My last comment was written in response to mmussman717 (or whatever his name is) comment of 3 months ago.

  • Change "now we are fighting a war over there" to "Now we are fighting some wars over there" and we're up to date. thanx for this old favorite--this one song had more accurate history than my whole jr high history book.

  • If you like this video please watch Glen Beck.

Very cool video. Takes me back a lot of years. :)

  • Removed my reply to edit it, now can't post @ all!

  • 1/2

I have to admit I hadn't heard of GB before ; I see he's widely known in the US. Thanks for the pointer...

  • 2/2

I think he's a monkey spanner. His style is to address issues the msm can no longer avoid addressing, and in so doing cleverly manages to divert thought back into the old programming. His commentaries are so contrary ; he's bad news, a typical product of todays infotainment industry and should not be trusted.

Glad you enjoyed reminiscing with the vid ☺

    RIP journalism, eh!? lol ;-)

  • Man, fuck you. Glenn Beck is a neo-conservative Faux news corporate puppet who deserves nothing more than to have his veins ripped out of his body and replaced with flesh-eating worms. Dig it?

  • ☺☺☺☺☺☺

  • We are the sons and daughters. The Monster is people who lend money and count on late fees and fianancial servetude. Cut the Credit cards up disconnect the landline and shred all unsecured debt. Wow I wonder what those tele tuff guys woulddo Im shakin in my Rebocks

  • Lets all together Unite and Bring Down That Warlike System.

  • What a great band. I never realized John Kay was playing the incredible rhythm guitar on this album. Always thought there was a third guitar guy in there. Larry Byrom's tone at 6:06 is insanely cool.

  • Genious!

  • ☺

  • I just listened to this whole CD a few days ago and still think it's one of the finest live recording around.I like it far more then the studio versions.More heavy on the guitar,if you know what I mean. What I think is funny is how those on the left have become everything that they use to protest against now that they have all the power. You better not express any conservative opinions on campus or they will skin you alive.Lets shut down talk radio too. After all we cant have ANY oppossing points.

  • I had heard this live album before listening to the original studio recordings (I was just getting into heavy metal back then) and remember how disappointed I was with the originals.

  • I heard the Steppenwolf - 'Live' album before hearing the originals too and had the same disappointment. However, in recent years I've begun to enjoy the studio originals but this 'live' album is still the best.

  • 1/2 - I've always thought so. I've not heard a better quality live recording than this.

I listened to John Kay introduce this song a couple months ago as, "as relevant now as it was 40 years ago..." Well yea, th@'s not hard to see ; it's defin@ely a song in the 'now'.

  • 2/2 - Any oppossing views and @ best you'll be ignored by the media, @ worst considered a 'terrorist'. The BBC is more badly biased than it's ever been ; journalism is @ rock bottom having been taken over by the 'entertainments industry'. CBC is underfunded and will continue to be until it goes under or becomes dumbed down.

  • I sought this song out for the comfort it gave me long ago. Thanks for posting!

Ironic how it's as relevant now as it was then.

Goes to show you, when the pendulum swings too far either way, the Monster is loosened upon the people.

    America! Where are you now?

  • love this song used to smoke up to this one

  • I got to see them play this number just a few weeks ago ☺ John Kay still has 'the nuts'!!

  • Excellent upload

  • Cheers ☺

  • must of been great steppen wolf is the best born to be wild
