Some sad news to report: The last I've heard, Lloyd is still in a nursing home, and apparently lost some of his memory, as well as his interest in books.
I was there yesterday . They both seem well and are looking forward to running this episode again . They said there have been 70 ,000 hits on this story at Sunday Morning . The only thing is that only 3 buildings are accessable by the public . :(
I just talked with Leonore yesterday and she told me they will be open this weekend through August, on Saturdays only, from 9-4 . She said Lloyd has made substantial progress.
Good: A local paper reported that the Dickmans enjoyed increased traffic at their farm last year. Visitors came from as far away as the Palestinian Territories. One fellow even flew to the farm by helicopter & landed in their fields.
Sad news: Over the weekend, I learned that Lloyd suffered a stroke this past winter. A friend who visited him described the outlook as "not good". Lenore has been by Lloyd's side throughout this ordeal.
This is a riot. Bill and CBS Sunday Morning is one of the best things on television. I have a request... does anyone have that video of Skiing Cowboys? It aired in the year 2000. Would love to see that again.
What a great story. This is what "true love" is all about. Making sacrifices for one another, unconditional love. Thank you for sharing this wonderful couple with the world!
Their farm is OK, folks. Lloyd's new car did get totalled from the flood waters, but all else is OK. He was buying books from my mom as usual this past weekend. (Thanks, Lloyd!)
What an incredible place to visit! This story reminds me of the fellow that mowed down his crop to build a baseball field! "If you build it, they will come!" I hope to get there soon!
What strikes me is how unique and happy their lifestyle is. The best way to be happy is to not feel like you have to live where and how everyone else lives. American society is rich/diverse/sophisticated enough so that we all don't have to be living in little boxes on the hilltop made of ticky-tack all looking just the same.
I found out about this place sometime last year in the paper and I've been going back every few saturdays. When me and my mother showed up there today we were shocked to find a dozen cars and everyone talking about them being on television.
I have a copy of Dr. Dickmann's book in a place of honor on my bookshelf. I heartily reccomend it to anyone that visits. It's a truely amazing place.
I am thrilled this was posted on YouTube. I missed it on TV and my husband tried to explain it to me...and I couldn't find it on the CBS Website. Thanks! They are a terrific couple. We will go there next time we are in Minnesota. Only 269 miles from Minneapolis!
This couple provided me with the best relationship advice I have ever heard. He said, "She lets me do the farming, and I let her do the teaching and things just seem to work out pretty good that way." What a wonderful story!
Very happy to see this video on YouTube. My husband missed this segment when it aired and he needs to see why his wife developed a sudden hankering for Wisconsin! Much thanks!

I cannot wait to go. Still, if they have so many more customers because of this news segment, she may not get the third of the tractor shed?

My parents sold books to the Dickmans. What is that--four degrees of separation from Bill Geist?
