  • Well... so that's everything I love about Baroque music.

  • Impossible de regarder cela et de l'écouter sans frissonner. Une union parfaite des voix et des intentions.

  • Fantastisk flott!!! Amazing!!!

  • Every time I listen to this I get goosebumps. These two are such amazing talents and blend beautifully together.

  • !!!!

  • This music moves me every time I listen to it. I can't hear it too often, and yet, not often enough.

  • Duetto affascinante

  • sesto is a little bit too girly... lol

  • Increíble Tuva. Gracias!
  • Thanks.

    Tuva Semmingsen, amazing.

  • Handel's best duetto (from an army of beautiful duettos) - so beautiful and so filled with emotion

  • Is there a CD of this???

  • @OrganoAeternam

    No, just the DVD

  • The dissonance in the last "piangero" gives me chills. Thank you for this!

  • Simply perfect....aren´t they wonderful singer-actors?

  • great video! - the Forrester / Wolff version is also recommended - for the beauty and intensity of emotions expressed

  • Duetto (Cornelia e Sesto): Son nata o a lagrimar sospirar, e il dolce mio conforto, ah, sempre piangerò. Se il fato ci tradì, sereno e lieto dì mai più sperar potrò...

Duet (Cornelia and Sextus): Son born sigh or weep, my comfort and the sweet, ah, ever cry. If the fate betrayed us, serene and happy to never again will I hope ...

  • Great Great video *****

  • The beauty of this duet is the simplicity of the melodic lines and how the orchaestra in the end of the A part becomes a 3rd "singer" - partaking in their grief.

  • I think that this has to be the most beautiful and moving duet that Handel ever wrote?

  • @swiftsboy I agree.

  • just wonderfull !

  • Stunning.

  • I love Metallica, I love Tool, I love metal and hard rock in general. That does not change that this is an amazingly beautiful performance, and in my opinion not boring at all. If you had any idea how rare it is to have the ability to execute something like this so gracefully you would change your opinion and apologize for your previous comments. Perhaps one day you'll be lucky enough to be so enlightened.

  • Very well said, sir!

  • Superb singing and vocal quality.

  • Splendid music and performance

  • Of course this is boring. It's supposed to be. A fast tempo would be mismatched to the drama here. You want excitement? Watch "L'aure che spira".

    watch?v=PJ1fQk7eY7c

  • I love Metallica too, but I think you're so uncultured if you think this video sucks.

i think it's impressive the way they sing and they act too.

Metallica rules, but I would prefer a concert like this before Metallica. And I love metal too.

  • I love it - simple as it has to be and so touching!

  • Can the musicality be beat here? OMG...almost as good as the Sellars version featuring the late Lorraine Hunt!

  • This Sesto is fantastic.

  • Heh, this guy plays the murderer in every opera. He played Naaman in Salomé in at the ROH, didn't he?

  • He played the count in Figaro's wedding.

  • ITs Randi Stene shes just alto!

  • So beautiful!!!!Makes me cry!!!

  • This is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever heard.

  • I am moved to the point of tears every time I watch this.

  • This sis a fabulous interpretation. It is just as valid in my opinion as Bardon/Kirschschlager

  • Wow!!!! What I like is that even though the Sesto does have the lighter voice, her sound has a definite masculinity (or, rather, boyishness) to it. Also, the huskiness of the Cornelia's voice doesn't detract at all from her maternal quality and her articulation is immaculate.

The staging isn't as compelling as the astonishing Bardon / Kirchschlager pairing under Christie, but this is effective.

  • "the huskiness of the Cornelia's voice doesn't detract at all from her maternal quality and her articulation is immaculate."

I agree. Her sound is very matron-like. It's a very difficult part to interpret, though it may seem "easy".

  • perfect!

  • Norwegian mezzos certainly DO do it better. What a great version, and not just the singing but the acting too, it's subtle, simple and heartfelt. Many thanks for this.

  • excellent singing. this is much better than a few other much hyped versions floating out there.

  • I love this!!! Are they both mezzo's???

  • Yup - but very different voices, obviously :)

  • but isn't Cornelia supposed to be an alto? 'Cause that's what I thought

  • Supposedly yeah, but the voice types overlap enough for alternatives to be possible, I guess. Anyway - Randi Stene is listed as mezzo-soprano on the RKO website, which is where I checked the info :-). I guess it all depends on the range of the individual singer. Tuva Semmingsen will be singing Rosmira in Partenope this fall - that part is listed as being for a contralto as well.

  • The part of Cornelia is either mezzo-soprano or contraalto.

Both ways, it's an amazing aria.

  • @compeld2sing

I would also recommend the Magdalena Kozena (mezzo-soprano/ high soprano) & Charlotte Hellekant (contralto/ mezzo-soprano) version

  • @FuzzyCerts Charlotte Hellekant is a mezzo and she sounds just a deep as Randi, whereas Magdalena Kozena is like Tuva but more beautiful vibrato (have you noticed a LOT of singers nowadays don't know how to use their vibrato correctly?) look up the version by Hellekant and Kozena, you might like it too.

  • Bravo~!

    Amazing voices!

I definitely have to buy this DVD.

    Thanks for sharing!
