@xterra43 I do think that his earlier albums were stronger than his later ones but still I agree with you totally. This song is stunning, it gives me goosebumps just listening to it ^^ This and Code of Silence ALONE could make any album brilliant but with the other tracks there too... :) Beautiful
@TheMoergi I understand what you mean. That's probably why he doesn't care much for "Modern Woman" either. They probably remind him too much of his past marriges.
OUTSTANDING SONG!! I agree with Powermaddd, MrChristopha, and Kyokoushio..... this is a great song from an underrated album. Heavy piano and drum beats combine with excellent production and lyrics to make "The Bridge" Billy Joel's best album since 52nd Street - I think. Hard to believe how BJ could make such great music during his drug problems. Thanks for posting!!
Nice one! . I love it when Billy has Liberty adding heavy drum beats to such emotional songs. I think this one would fit well on "Storm Front". Thanks for posting.
Despite it being a relatively unsuccessful album (relative to some of his others!) I really liked Storm Front. I agree though, this does have a kind of Storm Front-y-esque feel to it :D (yes, front-y-esque is now a word...)
I have been a fan of Billy Joel since I heard My Life. I have most of his albums from Cold Spring Harbor, The Stranger, The Nylon Curtain... and many more and I really like this song. Thank you!
For me, it was The River of Dreams that introduced me to Mr Joel's work. I only need three more of his albums to have all of the studio albums - I'm jealous :D I want the Nylon Curtain! (but I'm skint at the moment...^^;)
I think the previous poster meant he can use the sax well in his arrangements but he doesn't actually play it himself, nor does he play the trumpet despite the front cover of 52nd street. :)
Mark Rivera plays sax on this track I'd imagine, as he is the sax player in Billy's band now and would have been in '86 too.
Yeah, it's Rivera on this album and every one from 'An Innocent Man' onwards.
I did wonder about the '52nd Street' cover art, whether he did actually play trumpet or not. Regardless, the songs are amazing and I love the cover art, especially 'The Stranger' and '52nd Street'
Wow, you stud, I been looking for this song on Youtube for a long time. My favorite song of his that are in the bin of Joel songs that no one ever hears.
My favourite tracks on his albums are always the obscure ones too - 'Sleeping With the Television On' on 'Glass Houses' is one of my favourites, but unfortunately it's not well known by anyone other than his fans. Shame really, the obscure ones are often the best.
I love Billy Joel's songs.. Why didn't I was born before, WHY?????
I would be liked to see him in concert when he was young.. :-(
Thank you Billy for poetry you have gift.. ^_^

I don't agree with Billy when he said that The Bridge is not a good album. I think it's quite posibly one of his best, just listen to this.

Billy has said that he doesn't like "The Bridge". But with songs like this I don't know how he can say it.

@xterra43 Perhapes there are too many bad memories on the album. He hates Jsut the way you are too because it's about his ex-wife.

Billy can use the saxophone well. The sax melody of this tune doesn't simply have uselessness.
When I listen to his tune, I seem to dive in the sea, and to be looking at on.

I didn't know he could play saxophone - I'm a saxophonist myself (and a struggling pianist...)
I adore the saxophone part in this :)

Such an underrated song and one that deserves to be heard by more.
I especially like that part at about 2:54 that goes:
And I lose my composure/I could use some restraint/I never claimed to be a hero/And I never said I was a Saint.
Was nice to hear again and thanks for uploading. :)

I totally agree :D
That's my favourite part too!
