  • Hi, I just got anterior hip replacement (total) for my left hip. My scar is the front of my hip area. Did you get posterior hip replacement?

  • @XiiVoltRon - yep it was posterior... & it was the best thing I ever agreed to do. - congrats on the new hip... love it- spoil it... & do those exercises daily! ;-D

  • Hi i have my both hips done it's been 1year n 5month now I have both at the same time I still can't walk with out the walker I don't have pain in hip but my muscle r too weak frm my nees I still excusess every day some time I get really upset with my self why can't I walk yet I be very happy that I can walk again : (

  • @502raymond your not able to walk yet???? wow- I would think your doctor would be testing the parts... perhaps you need to be doing the physical therapy to build the muscle around the parts... Call your Doctor & inquire why your not able to walk. Best wishes to ya.

  • Hi-- I had my right side done in Oct, and the left done in Feb. I am feeling better every day, but like you I love to dance. My therapist kind of bummed me out last week when she told me about the things I should NEVER do again. I have been an equestrian for most of my life and she made it sound like riding horses was much too risky a prospect. How do you deal with these questions? Right now I feel like I'll never be able to even bend over safely!!

  • sweethart, I would not do any dancing unless you want to have many more surgeries. Those implants dont last too long if you push it. Good luck

  • @gcastroism - thanks for the advice... I've had em over 3 years now & I may not be able to dance as I once did... but- I'm loving the ability to dance... the trick is rebuilding the muscle surrounding the titanium (which as a dancer can be done fairly easily) & to NOT break the "Rotation Limitation" rule. - I do my push-ups & krunces daily plus the my plie's other leg exercises daily too.... as long as I don't fall or do something stupid like try to ride a bike or run or jump-= I'm good. ;-D

  • alright now I'm looking forward to my THR surgery Mar.28!!

  • @TheMarcia619 - oh good! ;-D I realize some of the THR videos can be pretty scary- which is why I posted this one for the positive aspect of THR.... Congrats on obtaining your courage!

  • @akamissrubytuesday Hey how you doing I just wanted to tell you I'm doing good and will be getting my left THR done next week,so hopefully it does as good as my right. Then this mama be back on the dance floor, lol.Take care:)

  • @TheMarcia619 -wow- congrats on being able to do the back to back surgeries! - impressive! - The dancefloor will be awaiting your arrival.... in about 8 weeks. ;-D

  • @akamissrubytuesday hopefully I'll be good to 'bout go Sept.2nd lol,my birthday!!

  • That must have cost you a fortune.

  • Hott

  • Why do THR when you can never do anything remotely athletic? Why didn't you resurface? after resurfacing you can run, ski, ride motorcycles, etc.

  • @christopheclugston - Resurfacing wasn't an option for me... I had nothing to resurface... athletics is WHY I needed the surgery.... & I don't like to run, ski or ride motorcycles anyway sooooo it's all good. I can walk, I can dance & I can... ummmm have some fun... which was the incentive to endure the surgery. ;-D

  • @akamissrubytuesday If you had it done in the USA and a few years ago there were no Drs with ability to do resurfacing. just a watch word for those that are told it's not an option in the USA it's because the Drs don't have the experience (they need over 200 surgeries to be comp. in the procedure as it's far more complex than THR plastic cup)

  • Awesome!! I'm 3 months into my 2nd THR and it's been amazing :) keep dancing :)

  • Hi, just wanted to add my experience. I'm 48 and had zero pain after THR in July. I was prescribed percocet when I was discharged but I never even opened the bottle. I credit the skill of my surgeon. I needed a walker for 3 days, then I switched to a cane, which I only needed 1 day - then I just walked. This is a miracle surgery. Being free from years of pain is just amazing. I urge people to not be afraid of getting this done. It's absolutely worth it.

  • @starry77 Good for you... and Congrats on your new THR! ;-D Glad to read you had a good experience & see how it was beneficial to undergo. Enjoy your new mobility!

  • @starry77 thanks for adding your experience.... & congrats! I think anyone who needs to undergo this surgery needs to see the benefits.... which is why I made this vid. I'm loving my hardware. ;-D

  • Great to see this its been 4 weeks since i had my left hip done, im 53 allways active and this scares the shit out of me. your an inspiration lady

  • Your a great woman, and do you use Ruby Tuesday, after the Stones, ?? that was one of my fav, hits of theres

  • Hello, I just had THR on my left hip three weeks ago. I am 44 yrs old. Your videos have been a great inspiration to me. My recovery has been amazing! I feel like I have a new lease on life. I was concerned about losing my lifestyle, which was a dumb concern considering I had lost it years ago due to OA. I have walked everyday since surgery.. I am up to 1-2miles split up into three walks. And do all my PT, three times a day. Key is to move move move. I am excited to hike & downhill ski again

  • @shadonna964 - congrats on the new hardware!!! ;-D... but- ummmmm no matter how good you will begin to feel- don't ruin all the good efforts of your surgeon, therapist & nurses by risking getting on skis.... one fall will bust it... & you will need to undergo the surgery again- plus endure 20x worse recovery... Didn't your surgeon tell yuo... NO Riding Bikes, Motorcycles, Skis... NO running, jumping or putting your feet behind your ears during sex??? Seriously- be smart with your new THR

  • @akamissrubytuesday My surgeon gave me the ok to ski and ride bikes as long as I stick to rehab and stay strong. I am not a hardcore skier, mostly blue runs. I met a 75yr old skier with dbl THR, I also hope to be riding bitch on my hubbies cycle next spring, again with Dr. permission. He did say NO running. I was never into that anyway. As far as feet behind my ears, I am just happy to able to spread my legs without being in intense pain.

  • @shadonna964 - I assure you.... your Dr. did NOT approve Skiing... nor did he approve riding on a motorcycle... your hardware is very easy to dislocate regardless of how much you end up re-building your muscle around the prostesis.... IF it were possible to do those things it would be possible to run... it will take at least a year before the muscles are even strong enough to provide a cushion... if you fall... so if you destroy it despite the warnings - know it will be more painful to repair.

  • @shadonna964 I have a question for you that I failed to ask my DR. if you get a hip replacement and the original cause was that my hip bone was grinding into the pelvic bone because the pelvic bone was diseased , wouldn't the new replacement do the same to the pelvic bone ?

  • Miss Ruby what do you think caused you to need hip replacements lol, still looking hot omg ive never said that to a hip replacement patient but the figure! wow looking great.

  • @onabreeze - thanks.... for the compliment. ;-D I needed my hips replaced due to all the years of being a wrestler & a dancer... in essence I wore my ass out. & needed to switch out the parts... hahahahahah - for more insight- go to my "Miss Ruby Tuesday- Memory Lane" video...

  • Not sure what happened to my Part 2 but anyway, I was talking about seeing a surgeon recently. I have another appointment in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous. I have waited as long as I could but even though I'm young (34) as you know when a hip gets bad even basic mobility gets difficult. I have always been active....rollerblading, hiking, biking, swimming, etc and now basically everything sucks. I'm not even sure when I turned that corner but here I am. Do you have any advise about the surgery?

  • @vmirving1 -The best advice I can give ... is to follow your Dr.s orders.... & be certain to do your physical therapy... not just during the recovery period- but for the rest of your life to continue strengthening your muscles around the prosthesis.... mainly- take very good care of it... baby it... & abide by the rotation limitations as you would any daily habit.... . Best wishes- & good luck to ya-hopefully this will be the last surgery you will need...

  • Part 3- My current scar is very similar to yours and I'm thinking of going in the same post lateral way if possible. My previous surgery left me with a long recovery time, did yours? Did you have any limping issues during recovery?

  • Part 1-Thanks for posting the vid. I had a grade III SCFE (slipped capital femoral epiphysis) at age 14. It was basically as bad as it gets. It was pinned in three places but the prognosis of an injury like this sucks. The waiting game begins immediately toward the ultimate end of a hip replacement. Being young they don't like to replace a hip and want you to wait as long as possible. There are options along the way, one of which being an arthrotomy to relieve infrigement.

  • Another example of what steroids will do to you. Was wrestling worth it?

  • @mojoeshaw - steroids????? hahahahahahah dude- I HAVE NEVER DONE STEROIDS. thats for people too lazy to build muscle mass on their own.... & yes- Wrestling was totally worth it.... it paid my bills & allowed me to travel for over 15 years- I needed my new hips due to my years of being a dancer & a wrestler.... basically- I wore out my hips- but fortunately - modern technology exist.

  • If you would've of gotten the direct Smith-Petersen approach with minimal invasion, you could've had both hips done at the same time with minimal recuperation time. AND you wouldn't have those long ugly scars on the side of your thighs. Good luck to you, you're a very brave woman. I'm going for bilateral hip replacement but with the above mentioned procedure. Hopefully I can go back to dancing salsa :-)

  • @Bruny - well- all I know is- I love having mobility & being able to dance again-regardless of the "long ugly scars". :-D When you have your procedure done be sure to take lots of pics and add to youtubes Hip Replacement Procedure videos... one thing is certain- a lot of people will need to undergo some form surgery at some point in their life- so- all the techniques will be good to know.

  • That looks so painful-- thanks for sharing your story.

  • @drmrls1 - it WAS painful..... but totally worth it! ;-D

  • I found that really interesting. I'm probably going to need a hip replacement myself in a few more years. Too much time carrying a heavy rucksack and equipment back in the day. Ah, we have to pay the price for the hard use on our young bodies.

Oh yeah! That "mud wrestling" picture reminded me so much of Stripes! Hilarious!!

Glad you can dance the night away again. Too bad most of us guys have 2 left feet.

  • Hii! Nice video!

    How are u doing?

I am 23yo and had a THR 2 months ago... I had end stage arthritic damage due to Rheumatoid over the last 10 years or so. Seeing that you are doing well is an inspiration. I have the other side to do sometime soon... hopefully this year! :) I am totallyyyyy enjoying this new hip & looking fwd to the next surgery.

  • I wish you all. And think you rock, you lived an exciting life with great pictures and a bod to show. Blessing on your recovery.

  • @fantasmom - thanks for the kind words & Blessings! - my new hips are a blessing. ;-D

  • wow...

  • Hey there, thanks for sharing your journey -- I had a THR on august 7th for rheumatoid arthritis, I am 24y//o - it popped out while I was in the car on september 1st. recently i went to my last appointment with the ortho and he told me I could never put on my shoes or socks for the rest of my life! and never to bend over for the rest of my life! he refused to talk about any of the other things- like what to do during sex, or if I could crawl or sit indian style or on the floor!! im devestated

  • Hi @chickens4cha... wow! your 24 and already endured a THR???? I'm no doc- but- didn't the doc tell you after your surgery not to get in or out of a car for @ least 12 weeks???? & if you needed to get in a car to use extreme caution- It sounds like you didn't obey the rotation precautions while healing- & therefore didn't get a chance to heal. Sorry to hear your not happy with the results. Inquire about having a revision done... thats what they do after someone breaks their prostesis..

  • Hiya guys I'm so glad that the THR made life easier for you, I may be having one just before christmas "A brand spanking new hip for a pressie" lol couldn't get any better than that hey...

I was just wandering what did you have to have the injection on the tummy for? Is it something everyone that has a THR have? Good luck hun and hope all stays well for you. xxx

  • Hi @CheekyRooNo1.... good luck with your impending new hips! ;-D The injections in the stomach is a blood thinner to keep you from getting a blood clot... Some get it in pill form... some Dr.s don't use it @ all... it all depends on your personal situation. Happy Holidays... you will love your new mobility...

  • Why is running impossible with hip replacements? And good luck to you.

  • Hi 'fvgbe342" Running & Jumping are things natural bone hips can tolerate... but the technology behind Hip Replacements has limitations RE: rotation & impact due to the removed cushion (cartiledge) - I can't put my feet behind my ears during sex- nor can I do the splits- or any high kicks.- the surgery isn't intended to give back ALL your abilities you once had... it's intended to make walking easier & to remove the pain that made it difficult to walk in the first place.- I'm grateful I did it

  • Good video and shows how you can get your life back after THR,I've had bi-lateral THR and it's worth the few days pain after, which I may add is not so bad if correctly controlled,I had paracetamol and tramadol, the guy in the next bed, paracetamol only !

Sex IS possible after 8 days ,no bucking bronco stuff though !

Spinal and "twilight" is ok ,they monitor you and if you seem aware of things they give you a little more. my back problems I had pre-op have now gone. If you need it go for it.

  • Hey...I was curious as to what a THR surgery looked like and happened across your videos. I had both of my hips replaced 4 months apart, at the age of 40. I am 45 now. I had congenital bilateral hip dysplasia and didn't know until I was 38. I never was a dancer or very athletic, so maybe it didn't surprise me. I am feeling ok in my hips, but now my problem is my back, damaged from the way I walked for all those years. I am now getting ready to have a fusion. I am glad you are doing good!

  • Hi "OJJDvictum"-

    Good Luck with your fusion....

My back is doing fine- I feel good- I can dance again but with limited rotation (No splits or high kicks)- can't run or ride a bike- but walking is sooo much easier.... and yeh... I must be aware of any cracks in the sidewalk.... don't wanna ruin the docs good work or EVER have to do a Revision... I'm starting to get my muscle tone back- thanks to therapy- But @ 50- I will never regain the muscle I had as a Dancer.

    Best wishes to ya.

  • Good luck with it '10h"-

My first surgery I had the spinal -

and the 2nd one I didn't- both times I was knocked out- but- waking up from the one without the spinal... was brutal- due to the fact- they not only break your hip/leg... but they remove and replace parts- so- I screamed for about 6 hours before they knocked me back out.... it's now been a year- I love my new hips- and will have to say- thank goodness for recovery. :)

  • that maded me laugh.. even my hip was hurtin at that joke.. my consultant said to me .. oh i see ur new hip has healed then.. considering im 8 months when i went to see him.. bless his face when i had the first hipreplacment. i was asking what what sexual postions i could do.. but on a more serious note.. i cant wait for my new right hip.. little scared but i know what to expect now. and the out come is better then all this pain im in now. xx

  • I kept asking the Doc... which positions I could do too! :) He said... 'you know that one... where your feet go behind your head?... and I'm like... yeh... love that one... he then said... that position is a thing of the past for you... remember it fondly.... cause if you do it... you WILL dislocate your new hips and will need a REVISION... which is 10 times worse to recover from..... soooo Lucky for me- (and you)- there are still MANY positions available... with caution. :) T

    Take Care.

  • i cant wait to have my right hip done. i had a thr in 07 and now face having my right one done as soon as ive had my baby im 8 months pregnant and in real pain. i have no ball joint in right side.. aint looking forward to the recovery but im lookining forward to a better life without pain

  • Congrats on the new baby 'lushxxxxx"-

and good luck with the next THR.

When I was pregnant with my son- it was when I was told I needed THR... I couldn't put my legs in the stir-ups and the Doc said... how in the heck did you get pregnant? and I replied... "Well, Obviously- Not in this position" hahahahaha-

Funny- despite the pain I had... I wasn't willing to give up the nookie!

Glad to hear... you didn't either. :)

    Best wishes to ya.

  • HI...i''ve spoken with various doctors here in Romania...and they told me that I'm too young for this operation...and that I have to wait about 10 years to the operation...could u explain me why???If you konw.please help me and answer me!!!thank u so much

  • "Sergiu25"... I'm NOT a Doctor... so I don't know why they won't do the surgery for you.... I know people who are as young as 14 with having it done.... obviously your doctor has his reasons.... good luck...

  • WHOOOO! Hats off to you, ma'am. A friend of mine had this done recently. Congratulations on your recovery!

  • at least you didn't got yours at the age of 19 like me i caught a bone-flesh eating bacteria that ate it all and i'm 25 years old and i have not being as active as i used to be b4 my nightmare started anyways how do you feel having'em you know how much it sucks 2 b young & having a replacement

  • Hi "sextorx"-

Sorry to hear you had to get yours even younger than I did.... I've been hearing from kids that are 14 with juvenile arthritus getting replacements... which will need to be redone in about 10 years due to the body growing.... I needed my replacement due to Osteo-Arthritus (Wore my ass out from being a Dancer)... I LOVE my New Hips... prior to surgery- I couldn't walk... I'm grateful surgery was an option for me... I feel bad for those who can't remedy their pain with the sugery.

  • hi im 21 years old and i need a hip replacement, i just wanna know if it hurts too much because im a little scared about that :P i would like u answer to my question (and sorry for my english, im from mexico and my english is a little bad)

    thank u so much

  • Don't know how to answer your question- except to say- if you need it done...

get it done... any pain following the surgery... will be worth it.

    Good Luck.

  • yes it hurts... after hipreplacment, recovery depends on the person.. but its worth it,, the first day after operation hurt like hell.. but i can use my hip again. no pain and can walk.. considering before i couldnt.. good luck to u. x

  • Hi I HAVE JUST 20 YEARS I O NEED TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT ..I WAS WRESTLER ME2 ..I AM VERY UNHAPPY, I WANT CONTINUE SAME SPORTS IN FUTURE,BIKE OR SWIMING ..I LIVE IS SPORTS I AM VERY ACTIV PERSON,IN HAW MANY YERS I CAN DO THIS OP I M 2 YUNG FOR THIS??i would like u answer to my question PLEASE !thank u so much

  • Hi "Sergiu25"-

There is no age limit.... I know of 14 year olds who have had the replacement done.

your Dr. can determine if your a candiate for Hip Replacement... First thing you gotta do is get some X-rays... to establish the reason behind your pain.... hope that answer helps.

    Best wishes to ya.

  • Sergiu25 ask your doctor about hip resurfacing

  • Thanks for the suggestion... but obviously it wasn't an option for me.
