I can relate to A Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down. The morning after a late night gig, and relflecting on when things are quiet and everything hasn't woke up.
@16iluvJustinBeiber01 Yes, he did write it... But he gave the song to Johnny because he did not feel as if he had a proper singing voice for music. Johnny got all that to change however.
I've never heard this song either, but I have often felt this way, with none of the drink taken or anything. Some lovely, appropriately haunting imagery here.
I used to put this song on every sunday morning after a saturday nights heavy drinking, thankfully as the years go on the times i have to play it are getting less or is that a bad thing? :)
One of my favorite Cash songs, even though Kris Kristopherson wrote it. Johnny made it his own and I love to play this on my guitar. A tribute to both artists.
holly fawk there are some philos majors comin here i see from some of the comments ....LMAO fawk enjoy the music people ... it is all we have really .
Reminds me way too much of a bad period with my wife, when we only got along when we were drinking it up every weekend..Waking up on Sunday with an awful hangover, only to go do it again..We're both huge Cash fans, so this song really resonated..Thankfully, those binge-type drinking weekends are done..We both got smart. Maybe this song helped..
i listened to this song and many others when i was younger on our record player. its a great song and theres nothing like the sound of it coming from a record

Too many people suffer silently. The pain never ceases. The loneliness only grows worse. There's fire in the past and only ice in the future. An endless sleep always sounds inviting.
This song reminds me of my dad. My mom left him and took us with her when we were little. He was really sad and just drank and smoked all the time. His house always smelled like old cigarettes. I wish we never left him so alone.
@eepetius We had the same kind of dad and mom. At least dad got to live a life. the life my mom took us into was a kind of hell, i can't blame mom, she was weak, sadly, as far as i know our dad never checked up on us but i remember the smell of old cigarettes. Did we leave him alone?? I don't know.
@eepetius my ex took the boy and left when he was three and a half... i hope he remembers me. i lost all right to him through the courts in england so i've had no contact at all. that was the greatest loss of my life. in another six or so years, he'll be able to look for me, hopefully i'm still around. i miss that boy every single day, i wish i could tell him how much he means to me.
@MrBuckwilliam - thats horrible mate, l really hope you are reunited with your son in the next few years and you can show him some classic cash tunes. Every son needs his dad
@DataTasha4: You are right, Kris Kristofferson wrote it. Look to the right of your screen (probably) to find one of several versions he did - but the duet between he & Johnny is freaking awesome, as is the version Kristofferson did at the JC tribute.
I remember the first time I heard this song by Johnny Cash. I was in Thailand with the Air Force sitting by a swimming pool with my radio. It was 1969 and Johnny won the CMA's Best Song Award for his performance of this song. Every time I hear Johnny sing this song I always get a lump in my throat; guess it just brings back memories of that sad time. One of the greatest voices in country music. "Ring of Fire" might be Johnny's next best performance.

@beautylikesthebeast You're going to cry now too? Damn, no wonder taxes are so high. Everyone's too damn busy crying about their problems instead of doing something about them.
@iscrca Being happy is unnatural. So is being sad. Plenty of people need you. Old people at old folks homes would love you to go visit. There are plenty of places/charities to donate your time where they very much need you. Don't mistake "no one needs" you with "no one *you want* needs you". Also, try to get a night job. You need to ask the question "How can I turn this around?". Find new ways to accomplish this. :)
@DancingSpiderman the purpose of who you really are? really? sounds like some optimistic bullshit. look me in the eyes and tell me you know who you are. here let me humor you. at the atomic level of self observation... i have came to the conclusion that i want to shoot out into a million particles lightyears and lightyears away and float around as cosmic dust. that is beyond emotionally my molecular level of self awareness. .. oh and the purpose of life is becoming human?
@DancingSpiderman p.2. well, as a human ive already achieved that. and now ive grown into a superior purpose, of being some asshole on the internet. im drunk. fuck you. the smartest people are the people who claim to know nothing. and i fucking know everythinmg!
The words, the story, and that voice. Put to that uplifting music was well before it's time. When you listen to this you see why he inspired so many great musicians.
i want to say thank-you for all who have saild how sorry for my friends that didn't come home. but i too want to say thank you for the vets from any war they were in, or still there fighting. viet-nam maybe over but i'm stilling to fighting to live in peace, even thro my family is homeless. westill believe in the man upstairs has plans for all of us. thank you
this song may be better today than ever.there does not seem to be much good new music being produced today.if you have a guitar its not to hard to sing and play.i met j.c. after a show in greensburg,pa awhile back.he signed my guitar and was quite gracious.what a life.
This is a classic! And the network wanted him to sing, "wishing Lord that I was home..", but Johnny Cash is Johnny Cash! R.I.P. John.

and you do not need anyone else right now, in order for you to want you,

or to jump start yourself to get to see a different way to think and feel.
I recommend this book: Conversations With God, Book 3 of 3, Expanded Anniversary Edition, Neale Donald Walsch.
It answers all the self-defeating questions of WHY, that we phrase in negative wordage.
Neale asked the questions, and listened.

To experience & to fulfill Who You Really Are.
To re-create yourself anew in every moment in the grandest version of the greatest vision you ever had about Who You Really Are.
That is your purpose in becoming human, & that is the purpose of all of Life.
If I knew you, I would drag you out of your house into the bright sunlight, and we'd take a walk. But this is all I can offer you.

When you listen to this you see why he inspired so many great musicians.

this song may be better today than ever.there does not seem to be much good new music being produced today.if you have a guitar its not to hard to sing and play.i met j.c. after a show in greensburg,pa awhile back.he signed my guitar and was quite gracious.what a life.
