    Blazing Hot Musicianship and arrangement.

  • Insanely brilliant group-love, love Danny Elfman's voice

  • epic

  • Me too! I wish I was older throughout the 80's. That's when all my favorite music was from. But I would be like 10 years older... so I guess I can't complain! I'm so proud I know the shit I do. People are like, "you're too young to remember this." But all my favorite stuff was from before I was born or soon after. I've been studying from a young age!!!!

  • This is the greatest song of ALL TIME!

  • @greaseskull13 I AGREE!!!

  • Danny Elfman Scares me, but this band is one of my top 5.

  • You will never see anyting like this again in your lifetime. Did Rap kill all musical forms, or what did happen? Someone is to blame. Music is so bottle necked now. Why? who?

  • Another Elfman song about conformity. It's telling us to stop try to dress and act like the people on tv and just BE YOURSELF!

  • funny cus hes always wearing the same tank top...even in back to school :p

  • I'd love the chance to take that tank top off him. And the pants.

  • If I was there I'd be moshing my ass off!!!!

  • @UrbanGuerilla88 I was at MANY of their shows back in the day,... & the pit was Fuckin WILD!!

  • yoda i wanna be

  • Reel Big Fish was actually produced by one of the guys in OB, the bass player I believe.

  • Reel Big Fish was actually produced by one of the guys in OB, the bass player I believe.

  • How the hell is reel big fish

  • "they remind me a little of reel big fish" Really ? They were around for oh a decade plus before reel big fish was a band. Other way round! Credit where its due! Ellfman has probably influenced a hell of a lot more bands then we could count.

  • @Beeba1 you know what i meant -_- i respect boingo more... i just said there similar... no need to be a dick

  • this song was in Teen Wolf 2...lol

  • i used to listen to this song when I was a kid lmfao

  • @theyankee1970 Fresno does love Oingo Boingo!

  • I grew up in San diego in the 80s cut my teeth on boingo shows always a great live show this song brings back great times

  • This song should do a few things. make you way cooler that you know the song. make you wanna dance like a maniac, and make all other bands sound like garbage.

  • for some reason this song makes me want to tear some stuff up

  • @waptek

check out "dead man's party" your wish has been granted!

  • reminds me of this past years skacore invasion 2010. ha ha

  • there is more energy on that stage then i thought possible

  • they remind me a little of reel big fish

  • @redhothellers Have you heard Reel Big Fish's cover of We Close Our Eyes?

  • @redhothellers

um.... NO.... reel big fish, remind you of boingo! not the other way around! never compare boingo to any one else.... they are on a level all to them selves!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @redhothellers

this was (might still be) dan, the trombone player from RBF's favorite band, so it makes sense

  • @redhothellers you mean reel big fish remids you of oingo boingo

  • @junkyturd well im only 15.. i did not grow up with boingo... i was introduced to reel big fish first... doesnt mean their any better

  • @redhothellers peeps get peeved when you namecheck the cover and not the original. take it from a guy, who at age 7, thought the bee gees + frampton wrote these awesome songs in the Sgt. Pepper movie. I thought they were great songwriters ! (which they were, but for others...) ha

  • @redhothellers No, Reel Big Fish reminds you of Oingo Boingo.

  • @redhothellers

Reel Big Fish? Um........who are the originals here man? Like DK, Black Flag, your ignorant comment is insulting. I have listened to and seen Oingo Boingo since 1983 as a wee lad.

  • Damn they were awsome....will see them next month in anaheim of course everyone except elfman

  • Jeeeezus this rocks!

  • Vatos was a pretty good drummer....anyone know what he is doing now a days?

  • @jkallih Finished raising a family . still running from immigration..lol j/k

    He going good

  • Now this is a fcuking party!!! Dr. Drew even showed up as part of the band (see 49 second mark)...

  • tube socks rule....

  • Man danny elfman.. is the guy that wrote all those great soundtracks for all those

Tim burtons movie's he fucking awesome

  • Everything he has done from Tim Burton movies to the Simpsons to being married to Bridget Fonda. What else needs to be said?

Danny Elfman is the fuckin' man!

  • @WolfeCoBen What!?!?!?! Danny Elfman married Bridget Fonda? Dammit I saw her first...lol

  • asombroso !! es un temazo 8-)

  • my memories of seeing boingo live; first time i ever saw a mosh pit and the tiniest bass player i've ever seen. great band!

  • There is energy coming out their ears!!! INCREDIBLE!!!!

  • Whoa, the drummer has no bass drum. Look closely.

  • @krisfrosz133 I think its electronic bass. Look at his right foot. Beat is a bass beat on that peddle

  • @krisfrosz133 Hahaha I see socks, feet and bass drum pedal but... no drum. you might be right

  • I think of Teen Wolf Too every time I head this song... Gotta love the 80s...

  • This is fkin AWESOME.

  • the guys are AWESOME

i heard this song on a tony hawk game

played it basically for this song after a while lol

  • Ah, this brings back great memories...

  • Artificially in B/W. I've seen them about a dozen times. This is later stuff. No reason for it to be in B/W.

  • Brilliant

  • That Danny is a genius is unquestionable. Even today, over a decade since they broke up, he is still making money hand over fist. Don't believe? Check out who does the score of almost every movie made today!

  • Wow! Not usually a live lover but these guys are awesome in concert. Gotta love the horn section too.

  • uggg! I'm not sayin' I'm not having fun now...but d**n I wish I could go back!

  • Thanks to video is right, to be able to relive these

Boingo moments is great!!! God I looooove these guys!!!

  • video rules.

  • Nothing compares - they played annually in L.A. on Halloween for years

  • true that. nobody makes music like this now. to make significant sound quality music and twisted but revealing lyrics take a true commitment, or just smoke alot of pot :-)

  • these days music has no comparison to the lyrics, witiness, and sounds that come from these heros

  • Seen them twice in concert. 1 time in a big venue the 2nd was at a club in Miami and was right on the wall in front....awesome, simply awesome!!!!!

  • damn danny's sexy. ///O_O///

  • Watching Oingo Boingo videos on youtube is reminding me

why they were my favorite band as a teenager. There will

never be a band like them ever.

  • @MrHablopablo

Sad, but true. The only close contenders are pre-1994 INXS. The Who and the Rolling Stones don't come close for energy, talent, and depth.

  • @MrHablopablo Untrue, these guys were just like Devo!

  • @JohnnyLovelyOfficial

how could you even compare devo to oingo boingo?

devo is good but oingo boingo is infinitely better

  • @MrHablopablo

    You're absolutely correct....never ever..

    *sob*

  • People who have seen 'em live are the luckiest people I know. Boingo rocked the 80's and 90's and nothing compares to one of their halloween shows.

    No band has their charisma/edginess/style.

    I miss 'em lots.

  • You are a Mystk fan,,,,or you're not...I am!...oh yeah...I*m on the Outside...

  • He's a god. Amazing...

  • I caught a show back in these days...One of the best concerts I've ever been to. They are seriously tight live! It was like a little freakshow with Vatos and the little bass player. For the drummers...Vatos is definitely one of the most insane drummers I've seen in a long time. His time keeping is impeccable. The horn section is rated as one of the best.

  • the little bass player is named jonny avilla just to let you know

  • It Is 1984!

  • in response to the question about steve's guitar, I believe that's his carvin that he used to use, the model is discontinued im pretty sure and most likely he had some more custom work done to it, killer video by the way, can't get enough boingo!

  • such memories.

    dang. what a great band.

  • They were just so off the wall and talented and crazy and were always the keg party favorite band to listen to where I came from growing up in the late 70's and 80's.

  • Is the drummer missing a bass drum, I can see him stomping on the pedal but no drum.

  • no I think he's using an electronic bass drum

  • The energy from this song is amazing... just watch everyone in the band. Awesome.....

  • '85...same year that they played at my high school....that was my highlight of sophmore year!

  • what kind of guitar is steve using?

  • It may not be true,

But these guys MUST have influenced Mr Bungle.

    Love this song.

  • You're probably right. There are several Oingo Boingo-Mr Bungle connections.

On Mr Bungle's Disco Volante tour, William Winant, who worked with Oingo Boingo in the studio, played the keyboards.

Theobold Brooks-Lengyel has played with both Mr Bungle and Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.

Mr Bungle also covered "Pictures of You" live occasionally.

  • Actually, Oingo Boingo had been around since the late 70's-early 80's. Bungle was later.

  • That's why I said Oingo Boingo influenced them...

  • @ibanezmancons that's exactly what i was thinking.

i checked and bungle used to do a cover of "Pictures Of You" at their earlier shows.

    Oingo Boingo AND Mr Bungle!

it's a good thing there are no videos, as the sheer awesome of the noise you would be hearing would render you blind.

  • @ibanezmancons - yes they definitely did, Bungle did a live cover of "Pictures of You" which you can find online with a bit of perseverance :)

  • @ibanezmancons Mr. Bungle frequently covered 'Pictures of You' and Boingo are a favorite of Mike's.

  • @ibanezmancons Hahahahaha

  • @ibanezmancons It is 100% true... I have a copy of Mr. Bungle doing an Oingo Boingo song at a concert.

  • @ibanezmancons mr bungle did a cover of Pictures of You by boingo

  • Watch your eyes, hard liquor Mike will be in Vegas next weekend!

  • I only share this because I was in a battle of the lip-sych bands in high school. I played Johnny Vatos (the drummer) And we won with this song. We were up against Duran Duran and Applonia 6.

  • Who do I want to be today? Hmm... At the moment, I really want to be that microphone.

  • Which one? ;)

  • I can see (and hear) why steve has this posted - I remember they were on fire during this era - they were gellin'

  • im sure this is Ska-Punk

  • I hear Ska core ethics!!!!

  • man i wanna see a cover of this on guitar

  • This is amazing

  • I used to see them at madem wongs chinatown arouns 1980

  • featuring eugene levy on bass guitar.

  • LOLOL 1:19 ain't this the life!

  • some rather personal stuff here, lol

for that matter, danny elfman's lyrics sort of reveal him as someone who dislikes lots of things but is afraid to tell so

only a lad, private life, lots of songs... that say he's an antisocial shy guy

  • Stimulates the Spincter

  • i would also like to add his smile makes me blush

  • aw 1:15! so cute.

  • Lol, I had mentioned that part in an earlier comment because it's just so adorable!

  • Lol, at 2:34, now that's what I call manic pacing...

  • LOL, I never noticed that before. Screw the federal government, I want DANNY's stimulus package!! Random perverted statement for the day.

  • Lol, me too!

  • Does this stimulus package only come with certain parts or does it come in complete condition? Just looking at him stimulates me, I can only imagine what the stimulus package would do! >:D

  • *giggle* They're talking about a "huge stimulus package" on the news right now as I type!

  • WTF

  • Oops, I said watching the concert twice, lol. I'm just that excited ;)

  • :36 - See the blur that is John Avila, lol.

  • lol Whoa, you're right. There ARE other guys in this video! How about that...I never really noticed. But yes, Avila is awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, John's fun to watch here. But the answer to this song's title is glaringly obvious: Danny's personal sweat mopper/love slave.

  • Comment removed

  • Danny; "throws guitar down, strolls backstage* "Alright, you ready to get to work, hon?"

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, he'd throw his shirt off, run his fingers through his hair, and say, "Ready when you are!" Wow...my mind is a strange place to be.

  • Comment removed

  • It's the night of The Ritz concert and you're lying naked in a bed covered in rose petals which is conveniently placed backstage when a sweat-soaked Danny walks in, expecting to find a fan wanting an autograph. His eyes flash with unsatiated hunger as he slowly pulls off his clothes and lowers himself atop you and you both surrender to sweet, sweet oblivion.

  • Comment removed

  • Now THAT would be interesting. "Hmm, would you look at this, they've got that old MTV concert on here...those were the good 'ol days....let's see what the fans have to say...they probably have some fascinating insights on the more technical aspescts of the music. I-DEAR GOD!! Just...no." *clicks off monitor* "Bridget, hon, first thing tommorow...cancel the internet access! And change the locks!" Yeah, something like that, probably.

  • Comment removed

  • I loved that comment that guy made on the "Gratitude" video saying "Would you Danny fangirls please FUCK OFF?? You're creeping me out!"

  • Comment removed

  • Clearly he's starting to question his sexuality and it's really getting to him, so he's lashing out. Or maybe it's Danny himself and we're creeping HIM out.

  • Comment removed

  • Just an update for you...I bought some blank DVDs today, and I got a reply from that guy. He said off the top of his head the disc has The Ritz show, all of their music videos, and that live eprformance of Wake Up It's 1984 that's on here, among other things. I asked him if he could burn two DVDs, so we'll see if he's okay with it.

  • Hey, he said he's willing to burn two copies. So it looks like you'll get your wish! And after I get it I'll just send it to you, you don't have to bother sending me money for shipping. You'd only have to wait longer if you did, and what's a few bucks shipping anyway?

  • Oh, thank you so much! And tell him thanks for me and that I think he's amazing! If you'd like, I could send you the money for the shipping and the cost of the blank dvd after you send it, though, but if not, then thanks again! *does a little excited jig*

  • You can discuss the show with me as payment :). The guy said that he'd most likely ship them off the very next day, which is awesome. Too bad he lives in Arizona, which is pretty much on the other side of the country from me. It's amazing that he's going to do this for free, you just don't expect people to do things like that these days. Seriously, this guy is getting nothing out of this except our gratitude.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm trying to imagine this video in color, much higher quality, and large enough to fill the entire screen. Yeah. That's going to be rather nice.

  • Comment removed

  • I actually think I now like Something Isn't Right better than Who Do You Want To Be. Both songs are extremely similar, though. This is such an awesome video, too bad it's not in color. And I have to say again that no man ever looked so fine as Danny did that night. Good Lord.

  • Comment removed

  • You should see how I dance to this song. Then again, maybe you shouldn't. I'm going to knock myself out one of these days.

  • Lol, does it look anything like Danny's spasm dancing?

  • yeah he's definitely the one who is incomparable LOL. GOOOOOO DANNNNNEH! :D

  • Let's just say I've made myself so dizzy I ended up on the floor. This song would probably be even cooler smashed, but I'm not a drinker, so I'll never know.

  • Lol, that sounds like the type of dancing I do.

  • Holy cow! I saw this when it aired on MTV in 1985. I was 15 and I haven't seen it since. THANK YOU for posting it!!!

  • Very cool video and great band.

  • 1:15 is so cute!
