People please get a life! There is absolutely nothing wrong with this movie. It is a classic and things were plenty different back in those days. @jpham227 Not original color - Ms Temple apparently paid to have this series colorized for release on DVD herself. Color films were made earlier than this but they don't have this 'nostalgia postcard' look about them - they are green and red, not sepia-toned. The Baby Burlesks series were definitely produced in B+W.
According to Shirley's autobio, the Baby Berlesks producers weren't nice at all to the kids. They barred the mothers from the set and treated the kids badly for laughs, tripping them to make them fall or whatever, along with locking them in a dark box if they misbehaved...I love Shirley, but these films can be hard to watch in light of knowing that. Shirley had no lasting bad effects, but who knows what it did to the other tots...

Wow, the side of Shirely I've never seen, she is so young I think around 3 years old maybe 4. This is stuff that is just to weird that they won't show it on TV. Heard about it reading her wiki page. Reminds me of those short comedies with all dogs in them, thanks for posting it!

This is the worst piece of garbage I have ever seen.
What's with the little black child dancing and taking off his clothes while 3 white "soldiers" watch. Something wrong with that.
It's interesting that long kisses, as seen here, were not done in movies and tv shows for a long time.
Would you say it's ok for little children to watch?

@thisnthatish You think this is bad, you should check out Shirley as Polly Tix, a 4 year old prostitute, working over a kiddie "senator", her bra and lace panties designed by her mother! From my childhood, I thought that Shirley Temple was the decent, good side of Hollywood. Only recently I became disabused of this idea having read part of "America's Sweethearts" . The sexualization of children is criminal. I also wonder about undressing the black boy. Someone must have gotten a kick from that.

Not sure if I like this video or not.... That scene with the milk dripping on the little boy and him sucking off a rubber glove... Ugh! this film is innocent from the baby's perspective, but certainly not from the director's ..whomever HE was!

When I watch 3-yr-old Shirley Temple dancing in this short film, it reminded me of JonBenet Ramsey and how dolled-up her mother got her. I'm wondering if people back in in the early 30's had the impression that this was a form of "child abuse" like so many people nowadays. Can you imagine how politically incorrect making a film like this would be today?

@jpham227 Not original color - Ms Temple apparently paid to have this series colorized for release on DVD herself. Color films were made earlier than this but they don't have this 'nostalgia postcard' look about them - they are green and red, not sepia-toned. The Baby Burlesks series were definitely produced in B+W.

According to Shirley's autobio, the Baby Berlesks producers weren't nice at all to the kids. They barred the mothers from the set and treated the kids badly for laughs, tripping them to make them fall or whatever, along with locking them in a dark box if they misbehaved...I love Shirley, but these films can be hard to watch in light of knowing that. Shirley had no lasting bad effects, but who knows what it did to the other tots...

@calamtykel Now that you've mentioned that, that's not so surprising given the content of the film. I can't sit right with what's going on... it too heavy laden with innuendo for very small children to be taking part in. Then when you add that bit of information into the mix, of course the mothers of the kids would not be pleased by it, but I suppose money can make just about anything happen, huh?
