@Rukanormoonbringer Basically, "Kinda Lingers" sounds an awful lot like "cunnilingus". I would explain it here, but I don't want to ruin your innocence, so just Google it. But don't say I didn't warn you...
I have to say this was one of my favourite songs when I was a little kid but at that age I actually heard 'Kinda Lingers' now I can't hear a single one of them singing that, lmao.
Well shot parody of music video. Looks terrific because it was shot on film. This parody is nice because it sends up break-up songs. Cunninlingus! You could never do that on US tv!
The morning after this was first broadcast a schoolfriend of mine said that his parents had been in stitches watching it. There was obviously something very rude going on but we couldn't figure out what it was.
NTNON was a truly ground breaking show. Fantastic. They would never have been allowed to say cunnilingus on the BBC so they said something a bit similar. Brilliant.
When did this air? I see that NTNOCN ended in 1982, but if they're spoofing "Under Attack" by ABBA (which I think they are), it'd have to be really late '82 or early '83.
Bizarrely NTNOCN finished in March 1982 - before "Under Attack" was even written. Which means that it's either a big coincidence, or the directors of the ABBA video copied the TV show!
What I find even more disturbing is that, when I first discovered this song (in the summer of 1991, when I lived in England), I was so innocent that I listened to it many, many times, and just thought it was a very sweet, sad song of farewell. Of course, now that I'm thoroughly corrupted (more or less), I get the joke in it!
Like if you are watching this in 2012!

Very emotional way of saying goodbye. And at the same time, an absolutely inspired way of getting away with something.
Genius really

60sto80s2 2 years ago 4
No it isn't. The only Abba video like this was Under Attack, and that wasn't a big enough to be recognised.
Must agree about the way Griff says Cunnilingus, Pam?, and then she smiles.....

Does anyone remember the NTNOCN sketch that was a parody of Sheena Easton's 'Morning Train'? I can't find it anywhere!

I want that one as well

Oh the Sheena Easton one: -
"My baby takes the morning train;
He spends all day with a whore and then..."
- Yeah I remember that. (Shows age.) haven't seen that on YouTube yet; but it may well be there somewhere.

Maybe ABBA (particularly Frieda) wanted revenge after "Super Dooper".
fossefan 2 years ago
They're not spoofing Under Attack. It's a coincidence that it's in a deserted factory.
cbak12sg 2 years ago
I thought it finished in March 1983. After which Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis went onto Blackadder.
tudgefunnel 2 years ago
Both imdb and Mark Lewisohn's excellent book "Guide to TV Comedy" list the final episode as going out on 8 March 1982.
ishovell 2 years ago
Thanks. I probably caught a repeat showing in 1983 and mistakenly thought it was a first showing of the last series.
I better start taking more Omega 3 and other brain boosting foods before I forget other facts and figures.
Thanks again.

OofusTwillip 3 years ago 4
explain it for the non-British, please! :)
vettae 3 years ago
Now you're being silly, but here goes...
"Kinda lingers" sounds a lot like "cunnilingus" (a sexual act), particularly when said with an English accent with its softened "r" sound.
OofusTwillip 3 years ago 3
ah ok, I didn't see that, I'm probably too innocent, too :)
but what does Kinda lingers mean at the basis? I'm not an English native speaker.
vettae 3 years ago
The song's official title is "(The Memory) Kinda Lingers", meaning, "The memory sort of lasts".
OofusTwillip 3 years ago
Thanks! I got it now :)

I'm hearing some indecent words in this song xD
