You are really good! I like it how you treat every horse differently according to its needs/personality. I found it difficult working at a horse ranch with 2 bosses who had different opinions. I always ended up wrong. One was a complete cowboy, who smacked the sense into his horses, the other was a natural loving "if the horse bites me its ok" kinda person.
I have been riding for about 9 years and i bought this horse, Ace. He was so poorly handled that we had to detrain him of bucking -well they were more like bunny hops. And he recently has been very aganist me (or anyone) mounting him. he fine when we ride though. when i try to mount him i have to bring the sturip up to his front shoulder or else he will kick out at me. Its just an accident waiting 2 happen, his ears are always pinned back when i mount. Is there any advice that u could give me?TY
wow you have helped a lot b/c my horse is a almost 21 year old arabian gelding. his previous owners messed him up! i have had him for almost a year now and he is doing better buti used a few tips that u have done on ur pod casts and i thank you for even doing the pod casts i dont think that i would have come as far as i have with out ur help.Thank You!
Thank you Sir.I would have grown so much better if I had known you before. I have bought a neglected horse after taken care of it for 4 years (owner did not want to sell). I have all sorts of difficulties to deal with but I take them one by one. He is a good boy but has been beaten and all, so I will come here to get help. I just succeeded this week in putting the halter without having to undo it all (scared of having is ears pressed back). Thanks again and I will become an addict!
I am working with a 4 year old quarter horse who was bread for racing. I put him up at night and he is out during the day, but he is so excitable. It takes a while to calm him down, but when I do he will follow me any where any advise to calm him down faster. I am just taking my time right now
i love your videos!!! they are easy to understand and very informational!!! in this one i like how you added the background music. ^^ thanks for sharing!!!!
That was cool, my TB filly was a bit like Chip, she didn't like the feel of legs near her sides when first ridden, you could just 'feel' her body tense up to something. I got her to do zig-zags between poles leading her at first, then got on, to get her used to me moving on top. She knew what she had to do, where she was going, so wasn't stressed.
Well,I haven't heard how he is going but I did receive some second hand information yesterday, that another 'Green' QH from NSW has just returned from people who fit the general description and it is now un-rideable and has been booked into another rainer here in an attempt to retrieve the horse. I am checking it out and will let you know but you can never trust 2nd hand info, albeit from an informed source. Thanks Mooingcow x
You and Linda are the best. I like the fact that you deal with REAL horses with problems, not finished horses that demonstrate problems. Indeed, true horse people you are. Thanks for the wonderful podcasts!
Have seen your recent update on young Chip, and am truly saddend, horrifed and appalled by the actions of his owner. I hope that you may be able to somehow save this poor chap. Please keep us posted.
I will be there next year Pam. Thanks. I am helping a number of UK Ladies via my 'day in the life of a horseman' page. UK Horsemanship and mouthing does concern me. We meet a lot of Ladies that move here. Regards
Thanks Skip. That little horse has now turned into an absolute pleasure and this morning, his owner was Riding him about the place. Her last horse died of Colic after getting 'stress colic' from another Western Trainer being too hard on her. That fact was always in the back of my mind as I started this difficult little chap. Regards
