  • Brings back so many good memories

  • Cos I need you baby

  • The sitar at the end is from The Sylvers I believe

  • This tune reminds of cold early winter mornings. Just woken up, walking through the snow on your way to work.

Good days. This track made me forget about the low temperature.

  • 4:55 that's when I get a orgasm! love love love

  • Roadtrip............love it!

  • 6 ppl didn't have anything left

  • so smooth...

  • guess 5 people were so baked they hit the dislike button by mistake.....

  • this is walking home through the city in the rain. so good.

  • tastyyy

  • wow im baked as shit and can now just noticed that the blips in the beginning make tones with the song

  • I used to feel bad.

  • so chill

  • Oh wow I've been listening to RJD2 a LOT recently and always thought he made all his songs from scratch. Actually more interesting to know it's all samples (any difference between samples and remixes?)

  • @cristofolon Sample takes a snippet sample. Remix, is a remix of the entire track. It's all in the name, man

    Peace and love

  • @joshtheguitarfreak yeah but the instrumental parts of his songs do not sound like samples. For example Girl Talk you can tell it's samples but here the instrumental is more like a remix so I don't know why this is a sample if it sounds like a remix. I mean like does he take samples to make his bases or how does he do it is what I was trying to ask I guess.

  • @cristofolon Sampling, much like what RJD2 does, involves recontextualising several pieces of music, and combining them to create a totally new song. The samples may be from numerous artists, but when "published", the new song is under RJ's name. The credit goes to him as the recording artist.

A remix can take an existing, modern song, and re-work elements to create either a house or dubstep remix, for example. The credit goes to the original recording artist, but with an "RJD2 remix" credit.

  • Yes

  • I used to put this song on repeat, listen to it a few times and just chill the fuck out....sometimes I'd freestyle over it. RJ is the fuckin man.

  • Any one know what sample that last bit is, cause i wouldn't mind listening to that forever.

  • @twiztedsinnz I could have sworn it was a JDilla donut

  • Comment removed

  • @justin9211 fuck ya...i cant believe I never thought of that...fuck

  • damned, i just cant find out where i know the sample from at the end of the song. i'm quite sure its from an old hip hop track. somebody know what i mean?

  • The Sylvers - Wish That I Could Talk To You

  • thx, its definitely the sample, but its not the song i meant, it gotta be some hip hop song

  • fav track

  • you are gone,

    im so all alone

    heres whats left

    of our happy home

  • oh my, so good...

  • fantastic

  • Easily my favorite rjd2 track ever.

  • Yeah man, one of my favourite RJ tracks ever.

    Samples are:

Black Frost by Grover Washington Jr (Sax part).

Silent Running Theme by David Matthews, from the film Silent Running (main hook).

Memories Are Here To Stay by The Intruders (vocal).

Don't know about the descending guitar part though.....that's at least 4 different records for one track.

RJ is a fuckin god on the MPC!

  • nice share. thx

    Tableturn:

"RJ is a fuckin god on the MPC! "

    ..indeed

  • @Tableturn final sample: The Sylvers - wish that I could talk to you!

  • @yoBashit nice

  • @Tableturn descending guitar is "Wish I Could Talk to You" by The Sylvers

  • @Tableturn I'm sure the guitar is some old jazz record--kenny burrell, maybe? or are you talking about the sitar thing at the end?

  • @Tableturn what are samples?

  • @coflip Is that a serious question?

  • @Tableturn hey, im new to this stuff xP i love RJD2 and blockhead tho

  • @coflip Well, I guess samples are those little snippets of music that producers lift from another artist's body of work, which is then manipulated, sequenced into a particular order, and sometimes combined with other samples to create a new piece of music. Often, samples are taken out of context completely, so a piece of progressive rock or soul is turned into hip hop or drum and bass, for example.

  • @Tableturn I logged in just to say I liked the way it started out looking like you were gonna rage on him and be a dick, but then you turned out to be helpful and nice about it. :P

The world, and youtube, needs more people like you my man. :D

  • @BKenderen Thanks man. I do what I can if people are genuine. Let's face it though - everyone enjoys trolling from time to time!

  • Just do a search for Wikipedia's page on Deadringer, RJ's first album. It lists most of the samples that were used. Or check out Who Sampled

  • RJD2 is possibly one of the best producers i have ever heard.

  • It's beautiful ;_;

  • I feel blessed to have herd RJD2's music, the man is beat genius. Hands down the dopest hip hop I've herd since golden era.

  • This song reminds me of all the past mistakes and just makes me feel so, whats the word, hallow. But, the song ends it makes me want to hear it again like an addictive drug, deep, deep song it is. I love it.

  • yea yea dope

  • Perfect..? YES

  • Double YES! (:

  • @rickburna si senor

  • @rickburna This is the kinda music that makes me want to sit on my balcony of my 8th floor apartment, smoke a joint, and just be Zen.

  • @rickburna This is the kinda music that makes me want to sit on my balcony of my 8th floor apartment, smoke a joint, and just be Zen.

  • @cdnbc250 Same here but with a cigarette

  • @cdnbc250 amen

  • this track is sickness across the board. cp3d2 or whatever the f--- is nice with it.

  • I might have to start burning trees again just to celebrate how good 'deadringer' is. right on par with DJ shadow 'endtroducing'

  • oh man you're so right.. deadringer and endtroducing.. 2 of my alltime favorites.. i'd like to add Nujabes ft. Fat Jon - Departure

  • I remember playing this shit for my girl. Years later, she's still my girl haha. The power of RJD2

  • I was already going to buy the album, and this song is so chill and musically relaxing that i am now doubly determined :D RJD2 is amazing@!

  • i really like the beat....with the vocals it gets a little bit too kitchy for my taste.

    but great track anyway: 5*

  • I released it originally on my record label - Battersea Park Music - I still have vinyl 12"s available, pressed in the UK - PM me if anyone is interested in purchasing a copy!

  • What an amazing tune!

  • people are arguing about sampling, but he released this as a remix,

  • I wonder why he didn't make this another song on the album

  • yeah settle down... plus they were gonna sue girltalk for the same reason ....... period . GIRLTALK!! and all he does is bite...if its good music its undeniable.

  • just settle down, it gives him publicity, and almost everyone who wants it on their iPod will go buy it.

  • If this was on an album, then RJD2 holds a copyright over the sound recording itself, you would need to obtain a license to use this track in such a fashion. The terms and cost of said license can vary, and are determined by the owner of the copyright.

  • Thx from Berlin City for such a excellent Song!!!!

  • not by bars you fucks....samplin really dont matter unless whjo ever u sampled makes it theire buisness to get mony out f u

  • yo can only cop 12 bars off a beat without permission...thats the rule, or just chop it up, like hiphop producers do

  • 12 bars is quite a lot. i was thinking 8 at most.

  • If deadringer never came out I'd probably still be a duche still wearing a fitted

  • i dont think u need his permission if you just use the song for yourself and dont go public with it.

  • You can do anything you want as long as you don't go public with it. Hell, go rob a bank. Just don't go public with it.

  • mm. I understand. according to a lawer i know, music law sais that its okey to "steal" a part of a melody or a whole beat.. as long as you have refered it to the creating artist (RJD2). Im aware of the fact that this isnt a beat. its a track. but if I reccord it with a rap, does it "become" a beat then? legally i meen? and can I there for use it?

ps. sorry for my bad spelling, im swedish, stupid and fucked up cause of a bad hang over.. cliché, huh? ds.

  • are you talking about sampling? because I'm pretty sure you still need legal consent in order to use a part of it..

mind you, i could be wrong.. but I wouldn't record over this and then expect RJD2 not to care.. which is why I advised you to ask him..

good luck, hope you figure it out..

  • If I would like to write a rap, based on this awesome tune, and record it together with it - how would it work out legally?

    Any one?

    peace love n ice cream

  • You need to ask RJD2, bro.. it's his track.

  • Jonny3692 good looking Ive been trying to figure out who that was forever.

  • One of my favorite on Deadringer

  • this song aint on dead ringer

  • it's the hidden track, leave your cd playing after the last song. :)

  • A secret song? I like secrets.

  • original lyrics by

"the intruders- memories are here to stay"

    original music by

    "David Matthews- silent running"

theres a video on youtube of the intruders original song.

  • I've uploaded "Silent Running" by David Matthews. ;-)

  • That Beat is my definition of chill. . .

  • this is helping me through some rough times. thanks commentators for the original sample

  • frikin shivers every time. Makes me think of how im moving away soon, and the impending break up wit my girl. such a beautiful song.

  • Your comment might have been funnier if you knew how to spell. What the fuck is a "schrink men"? did you mean schrink? wat are you fucking disabled? lol loser.

  • just not american. sucker

  • Haha

  • Hoho

  • I love this song, sooooo amazing. Anyone know who the vocals are?

  • omg i have this song....its so beautiful

  • Could someone please tell me where the vocal samples are taken from?

  • I need to know 2 things....What album is this track from? And where can I get it if its not from an album! Please help!

  • erm, it says in description:

RJD2 Hidden Track from Dead Ringer - Here's What's Left.

so i guess it's a hidden track on the album "dead ringer" but that's just like my opinion :D

  • BennyLenny1985:

In case you haven't found out yet, it's a hidden track at the end of Work, the last track on the RJD2 album Deadringer.

  • Hey AfexNine.....Listened to my Deadringer album start to finish, and also checked out 'work' still havent found it!!! Thanks anyway man, I'll have to get a copy another way.

  • That's weird man, on my record it starts playing about a minute or two after Work finishes. Could be something with regional differences maybe, who knows. Good luck either way.

  • "Early copies included a hidden song on the same track as 'Work,' titled 'Here's What's Left.' (...) Def Jux was forced to drop it from later pressings due to a sample clearance problem."

  • That explains it then, thanks for clearing that up.

  • You can also get it from the Late night tales compilation by Belle and Sebastian.

  • im pretty sure the outtro is the same riff used in June Remix, and i love it in both songs

  • Best song on this AMAZING album.......Such and inspiration for an aspiring producer with a hefty library about to be DROPPED on the world!!!

  • dedicate dis to my lost luv.... oh well....

  • ay, me too

  • well, me too

  • shit, same here

  • seriosly you dident like the outro? You are a stupid idiot, dident fit with the songs mood? you fucking numbnuts the outro is what makes the whole song, i get fucking chills from it its so good.

  • calm down, i can imagine your face contorted in rage as you read that guys post about not liking the outro of this song. i can imagine you looking at the ceiling, but looking past it, as if looking for the face of God to give you some kind of answer as to why he would create such a "numbnut". thats what i imagine anyway!

  • i fuckin love the outro, it brings out the hip hop that was there through out the track

  • The only thing I don't like is the outro.

I think it doesn't fit with the song's mood.

    But that sax is good.

  • Does anyone know who is singing on this track??

  • The Intruders - Memories Are Here to Stay ;]

  • best track by rj

  • It's ok but the other songs is not that great i think..

but this one is pretty good :)

  • you fall in love with his music off this track alone

  • RJD2`s song are incredible. the talent that went into creating such great track is unbeliveble. great sings... all of them

  • cause I need you babe , o how I miss you babe

  • i don´t know what Dead Ringer is but this is one of my favourite tracks ever. I have the original 12" but i work overseas and i´ve not heard it for years !

Thanks for uploading and i´m so happy that other people can enjoy this tune :)

  • deadringer is the album...his best if you ask me...but since we last spoke was pretty good too.

  • i wonder who originally sings that verse.

  • The song samples "The Intruders - Memories are here to stay"

  • Promoe sampled the same choon on "KKKampain"

  • the outro is sick

  • Damn it! I have a newer copy of Deadringer and, of course, this exceptional track is nowhere to be found.

  • You can get in on a compilation, Gettin' Jukie Wid It 1...

  • deadringer = teh shiz-nittle-bam snip snap snap

  • This is an amazing track and it's a damn shame it was pulled off of later copies of Deadringer. That old-school sound mixed with RJD2's production sense...classic shit.

  • ???

  • I´m in love with this song! SO GREAT!

  • `cause i need you baby

    oh,how i miss you baby :X

  • Luv it!!

  • damn this is good. i have deadringer and can't find this track...are you sure the album is deadringer? which song does it come after?

  • it is from the early copies of deadringer. it would be after Work if you have the early copy

  • notice in the title: hidden track...

  • rj and the guys are so talented... just saw them live yesterday in hollywood fucken amazing

  • he played in hollywood and i didn't know about it? DAMNIT!

  • yeah last night at the fonda... it was great!

sorry yiou had to miss it

  • saw him yesterday in chi. he is the rare breed of super producer that picked up every instrument at the show and rocked it. can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

  • You are gone.

    I'm so all alone.

Here's what's left of my happy home.

    "She'll be back"

    That's what i said

As i stare at the ceiling.

    'Cause i need you baby.

  • This is fucken shitgood:D

  • wow! never heard this one. SO SICK!!!

  • Yes love this is indeed one hell of a sick song!! God when I heard this I damn near lost my mind!! This is so tight!! Whooo! *goes off dancing in the corner pump this up!*

  • Man, when that singer starts doin his thing for the first time + RJD2 track = Makes me feel so blue and eternal at the same time!!!

This makes me go nuts! Luv it!!!
