  • beautiful

    what a talent

  • First seen this done circa 1969 by the late Twizzle at Manly beach Australia using a half fin set 30 inches up from the normal fin position.

    Amazing stuff

  • very good !

  • @billyblaze111 you obviosly dont know how hard this is and you say Nothing original about this. Little kids in Hawaii have better performance than Mr Hynd he did this long before the little kids and im sure they would agree

  • fascinating! Could you imagine what that would have looked like from a water angle?

  • Nothing original about this. Little kids in Hawaii have better performance than Mr Hynd

Just search stand up boogie boarding and you'll see what I mean. Give this clown some fins or a boogie board and lets get on with some real surfing.

  • @billyblaze111 What's "real surfing"? Do you think there is such a thing?

  • 2:46!!! OMG

  • reminds me a bit of sliding on a longboard skateboard

  • Love how how that board can just float everywhere on the wave! Without the bite of the fins, it's a new appreciation of choosing your line and overall positioning. Seems like it's gotta be on a point break...

  • wwwooww, thats amazing, this is the type of surfing i like seeing in videos. much respect to him

  • damn that's sick

  • respect -this is real surfing

    !!!!

  • OH MY GOD.

  • OMG

  • in skateboarding we talk about reverts.... this is next level compared to someone who can learn that kind of fluidity on an unchanging surface.

  • I'm not a surfer, but I have never seen anything like this before...almost like being ambidextrous on waves. It is amazing to me...

  • Round and Round he go, where Hynd stop... nobody know

  • so mental

  • he is a genius lunatic. may he live forever. how can someone pull off a quadruple (or more) spin and finish it with a floater/tube combo. Nutter.

  • i could watch this over and over. Hynd makes it happen! this soundtrack is rad too.

  • This is the future of surfing... just like "getting air" was .Total freedom from constraint brings a new dimension .Still,we must respect what came before .

  • Derek, light years ahead, new moves??

But still surfing on the wave, love it!

Like to see what that board looks like?

  • Fantastic

  • This is from The Glide, which will be performed in Melbourne on 4 April and Sydney on 7 & 8 April 2011. Details and bookings at aco.com.au

  • Mindblown. That dude can fucking surf. Holy shit. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • unbelieveable!!! wonder if the barrel @ 2:38 would have been makeable on a thruster tho?

  • Stretching the limits of creativity.

  • Not bad for an old bloke with one eye and no fins!Dont see any body doing chock hops and airs in those waves.Respect!!!!

  • Met this legend tonight at Rincon. He was absolutley ripping and fin less. And super cool!!!!!

  • This is a totally new way of surfing, and Derek is the master of it.

  • Awesome - Fantastic...

  • One of the coolest things I have seen. EVER!

  • Sick moves!! Especially the part where he slides into a switch foot stance and glides into a cutback!! That is just out of this world man!!! Fucking awesome!!

  • he's on DMT for sure

  • in the latest surfer magazine, slater mentioned that hynd thought he'd peaked at age 23. what is hynd now, 50-something?

  • What's the name ofthe music?

  • This guy's a fricken Master! That Chimpanzee stance would be incredibly difficult for the rest of us.

  • as far I can tell it's the same musician who plays the violin i think it's Tognetti or something like that. Saw him in New York. Plays electric.

  • very talented DH

  • derek - the wizard

  • WTF???

  • wicked vid

  • insane. btw - so is the music. who/ what is it?

  • derek is a wizard. he's hilarious to watch from the shoulder, doing his thing on long jbay walls...his facial expressions are classic. he becomes the wave. this is surfing.
