  • Can you imagine what sort of barbaric yet inventive methods they had to use to create this absolutely perfect title sequence decades before usable CGI?

  • where can I get the background effect?

  • the Superfriends !

  • Mawdryn Undead was one of my fave Davison eps

  • @zzzombie888 i quite like the mara tales, kinda and snakedance

  • What font do they use for the episode name with these titles?

  • An intro with Tom Baker's face on it that resembled this was used from 1980 to 1981, and then replaced by this.

  • FoxtrotDeltaLima497

    FoxtrotDeltaLima49

  • this is my favorite doctor who theme of all time.

  • Could I be able to download these?

  • @debenhamproductions2 tubesucker meh friend look for it on google

  • @debenhamproductions2 Realplayer

  • i think they should try making the new title sequences like this, it looks more realistic than CGI for some strange reason. same thing with the models. I know it would probably cost more, but it has a really great effect. they should also try making models like the opening sequence for trial of a time lord with the motion camera rig shots, that looks WAY more realistic than CGI

  • I think the new titles aren't as good, they should had the Doctors face in it like the classic series

  • I would be so happy if I turned on the series premiere tomorrow night and saw this as the opening! :D

  • the best opening!

  • 2 people were roundhouse exterminated by a Norris Dalek for disliking the Fifth Doctor.

  • definetly the best theme

  • 2 people are daleks

  • @exar420 DAMN YOU DALEKS!!!

  • I don't know who the best doctor was, but this was definitely the best theme music.

  • anyone know what synth was used for this intro? Freaking masterpeice!

  • @Peterf4536 Check out "Dr Who, synthesizing starfields", it's available on here, shows you how it was done. A great little documentary.

  • This is the best DW opening ever.

  • Catchy beat!

  • where is the 2 fuckers to die,...

  • where is the 2 fucker to die,...

  • Wouldn't be so freaky if astronauts in space saw a collection of stars coming forming the face of Peter Davison.

  • @haydos271 LOL what are you smoking? I'll have some :)

  • @pufferfishish I'm smoking jellybabies. Would you like some?

  • Seriously one of the best doctors IMO

  • I watched this back in 05 when they did some replays on ABC.

  • jizz

  • :30

  • may i use theese?i will credit you

  • God this takes me back..... still the best version of the theme

  • Does anyone else think Peter Davison looks like Phil Collins??

  • Awesome!

  • i personaly think this is the best sequence and the second it hits 0:02 it makes me proud to be a Doctor Who fan...

also to the 2 dislikes people are you tom baker and colin baker because tom was the best when peter took over and colin because you were not a good as you could have been?

  • @AlistairAI I feel a bit bad for Colin Baker, to be honest. He's an example of what happens when you don't back an idea 100%. He was supposed to be the "Dark Doctor", as it were, and that came through in his performances, which were pretty decent, but he was let down by production and writing, I feel. He was supposed to have an all dark-blue ensemble for a start, instead of the crazy clothes, and none of his episodes ever gave him a chance to really portray the character as it should have been.

  • @EvenflowBlack When you think about it, Chris Eccleston and (to a lesser degree Matt Smith) have channeled Colin Baker's performance. You're right; they should have let him be a darker character instead of making him wear the garish coat and have a cat fetish.

  • Oops . . . i ments to say Murry Golds 21st Century versions of the the Theme are NOT as awesome as this . My Bad .

  • By far the best version of the Doctor Who Theme since the 1963 original , hell , even Murry Gold's 21st Century versions of the Theme are as awesome as this , Perhaps he should base the next Theme after the current new one on this , or perhaps do a modern version of this Theme with modern sounds if people get what i mean .

Maybe the next Title Sequance in the New Series should be something like this one too , after all , the Doctor does come from the stars ! .

  • A bit higher pitch than the last one, you have to admit.

    AND WTF guitar at 0:15

  • This is my favourite theme song, it's very catchy!

  • This is my favourite Doctor Who theme song because it is s catchy.

  • BzzzzAaaaaap... Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Strum-de Dum! Woo Whooooooo.. noo oooooooh. deee dum-dum, dah-de dum-a dum.. dum.. dee dum.. dun dun, da dun-dun-dun-dun.. whoo hoooooo doodlee doo.

    There we go sound lyrics.

  • Great shit.

Not as ear-splitting as the new series intros.

  • anyone know where to get the text font that they use for the name and writer and part of the episode? If sum1 could tell me i'd really appreciate it :P kthnxbi

  • oh yeah i watch the team build these titles

but it was hard work back then!

allow now kids even can do better!

  • I go positively insane when I watch these old Doctor Who openings! It's so awesome to see how it started from camera effects to the first computer effects. :D

  • Best theme imo, I love the bassline

  • This is my fave theme for Doctor Who too. It's really meaty and rythymic.

  • Something about this is wrong. Is this a shorter version of the theme?

  • @pucpimp There is no story title; hence the "clean"...

  • This is probably the 100th time I've listened to this and I noticed something new. @ 0:10 the beats sound like drums. Dun, dun, dun-dun. dun, dun, dun-dun. :D

  • Been watching the series since the 3rd doctor and this is by far the best opening sequence + music combination.

  • i thought this version was kinda gay but i guess im just old fashioned.

  • hes handsome, but not as handsome as david tennant

  • i love the guitar bit on 0:15

  • @Clubpenguin729Minus Actually that's not a guitar bit. It's someone's voice. I wouldn't have guessed it the first time I heard it. Watch the making of this video. It's very enlightening. :)

  • @DrSeussThing1 oh ok

  • this is good

  • this theme really gave the mysterious feel

  • one of the best themes ever

    xx

  • Ah the stars look like a screensaver! lol

  • Yep. but it was cool back then

  • brilliant titles.

  • By far the best DW opening. They should base the new theme on this one somehow.

  • @VictorCreed89 I think this is the 3rd best. The best is the Trial Of A Time Lord opening, then the Big Finish 8th Doctor opening then this one...

They all have very good qualities!

  • @VictorCreed89 Yeah ive always thought these suit the feel of the show better than some overdone orchestra theme

  • 0:23 is the best part 'whooo whooo whooo'

  • best version of the song. The moogs so much more powerfull with the bass and portamento.

  • My favourite Who titles, Particularly the first seconds. Probably makes me biased towards Davison as the Doctor!

  • my top 5 davison eps:

    1) The Caves of Androzani

    2) Castrovalva

    3) Earthshock

    4) The Five Doctors

    5) Resurrection of the Daleks

  • Peter was a good Dr, don't get me wrong, a bit too squeaky clean though, Baker looked like he took the Tube to work and knew which uni students sold grass, Peter a limo and champagne and caviar.

  • Peter doesn't look like he's been shooting about in the tardis since the beginning of time.

  • As a very long standing fan of our dear Doctor, i'll give Matt Smith a running chnace. he look's the part. bet people said the same about Tom Baker when he took over?

Each Doctor has to have a chance. bit annnoyed that Colin, Sylvester and Paul didn't get their go cos they were great Doctors

  • Matt Smith is in the exact same position as Peter Davison was when he took over. They both succeeded the 2 doctors who best defined the series.

  • Comment removed

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz ...And both broke the record on youngest role player of the Doctor.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz And then they went and recreated the entire premise of the series? :P

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz That, and the fact they are both the most adorable things known to man.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz and they were both the youngest doctors when they took over.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz I can't help but add that Eccleston was (at least for me) the best doctor by far. He was unique.

  • @Phaedrusgr

David Tennant was my favourite of the new series, but I also really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston's take on the Doctor as well. It's a shame he was only apart of the series for such a short time because he did an amazing job in the role.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz They were also the youngest-ever actors to play the Doctor, at the time.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz And were both the youngest to play the character when they took over.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz and they both are brilliant doctors! peter davison is my fav classic doc, and matt is my fav modern doc

  • @BowTiesRCool Bow Ties ARE Cool xD

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz

Not to mention they're the youngest Doctors to take the role. Davison was 29 when he was cast, and Matt was 26 (rumor is he's turned 27 already but IDK) when he was cast.

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz also, tom and david were the most crazy doctors, i loved that!

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz in my opinion i think its an insult to tom baker comparing the two

  • @TheZillaGod: Thank you... Someone finally *gets* it!

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz That's so true! I didn't even realize XD

They're also both the youngest so far (at the time)

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz

And in my opinion, both Smith and Davison were better than their predecessors.

  • @cloud4an I'm happy to say I completely disagree with you on that, and always will...Tennant will always be far superior to the poor show Matt Smith has given - the writing of the new series is nothing compared to the Russell T Davies episodes

  • @HellahGordon

Poor show? David Tennant undeniably portrayed the Doctor brilliantly and I can understand why many people choose him as their favorite Doctor, but it's completely unfair to Say that Matt Smith has done a poor show. He's done brilliantly as the Doctor, portraying both the youthful and playful vigor of his young body, but also portraying the pain and torment of his past. And on Russel T Davies, all I can say is wow. He is an awful writer, even more so when compared to Moffat.

  • @cloud4an I have every right to say Matt Smith is a poor doctor - just as you have the right to disagree. He, as far as I am concerned, is the worst doctor there has been.

As for the writing - I find it interesting that Doctor Who has won few, if any, awards since Moffat took over, and the viewing figures have dropped, in comparison to when Russel T Davies was in charge. His writing was exceptional, and is and will always be, superior to the drivel Moffat writes.

  • @HellahGordon So when it was new it won loads of awards, then when people start getting bored with it its nothing to do with just that, it has to be bad writing and acting?

I have seen most Dr Who episodes ever(apart from the reconstructions) and I found Colin Baker to be the worst but had his good moments wheras Matt Smiths Doctor hasnt had the build up for such a good character.

  • @HellahGordon

Moffat has won almost twice as many writing awards as Russell T Davies, 3 of which were for the episode "Blink" alone. And, can you explain what your problem with Matt Smith's Doctor is?

  • @cloud4an I accept that Blink was indeed a good episode, however, I still think the story lines of the Matt Smith era have been poor in comparison to the previous series.

The end of the David Tennant series was supposed to be a watershed - to allow the new series to have a clean slate, yet it has emerged that Rose, Martha and Donna are all coming back into this series....desperate to get old viewers?? I think so. As for Smith, I simply cannot stand him, aside from the above, I just hate him.

  • @HellahGordon

Where did you hear that the old companions are returning? I will not watch an episode that has Rose in it, whether Moffat wrote it or not.

  • That is the best news I have heard for Dr Who since the end of the Horns of Nimon.

I just hope the content of the show is more like the 60s and 70s feel.

  • i dont wish to spoil much , but moffet HAS chosen to revamp the tom baker opening titles , created by bernard lodge. He is returning the vortex that morphs into different shapes when things pass through it , and the original logo is now a fiery orange , and matt smiths face appears in that vortex

  • excellent news :) i am a great supporter of the doctors face appearing in the opening credits so to hear matt's face will actually appear in this vortex , based on a tom baker opening titles then i'm well happy with that

  • same :) Matt Smiths going to fucking rock as the coolest doctor of them all!

  • who gave this a thumbs down?

LET GO! Dr. Who isn't yours any more it belongs to a new generation. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's going to be bad. You never know he might even be good!

And if he isn't why would you care when you're the one who got to see the original doctors?

  • yh MATT SMITH IS GOING TO ROCK AS THE NEW DOCTOR =D

  • oh eff off

  • If you send me a message like that I'll report you to You Tube and tell your parents. Go to school and aquire an education.

  • could you send me all the openg titles andd closing titles plz for my figure animations

  • Tristan Farnon!

  • I always thought the oening titles were the same for the 4th DOc's last season and the Peer Davison era, just with different faces. But they are quite different -th baker titles have far more stars and higher contrast (always thought they looked better for some reason, now I know why!). ALso, I never liked the venetian blinds effect - prefer the facial color just fading in.

  • i prefer the old version of the doctor who openings.

The new opening is cool, but too complicated and you dont hear the main theme tune.

  • He was actually peter moffat but he changed his last name to davison for the stage

  • Is Steven Moffat realted to him

  • I dunno... maybe thats what I thought

  • Moffat is a common last name in England apparently

  • Yup and thats why Peter Davison changed his name. Because there was already a Peter Moffat

  • Also I have discover that Peter Moffat directed the 5 doctors!!!!! (Not davison)

  • Georgia Moffat is his daughter though. (I hope I spelled her name right)

  • neede that one

  • I have 2 favorite Doctors Peter Davidson and Tom Baker.

  • not peter davidson its davison

  • i agree with ya they`re cool

  • i think he looks like gary liniker in the titles or am i just bein a freak?

  • First thing I thought too.

  • lol

  • Would be great if there was a Doctor Who plot in association with Walkers crisps.

  • I like Sylvester McCoy the most, because of being such an enigmatic figure near the end of his run, which in my opinion is what the Doctor should always be.

  • one or two missing parts make all the differance.

  • Doctor Who - Clean Peter Davison Opening (1982)

  • The only bits missing are 2 bits after the "Doctor Who" comes up which are "Episode title" and "Part x"

  • And Author Credit

  • True. :)

  • whats the point of making a clean title sequence?

  • It just means it's rid of credits and in pretty good resolution.

  • My third favourite Doctor. My favourite in order of appearnce is Tom baker, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, William Hartnell, Colin Baker, Paul Mcgann

  • My favorite Doctors in order are: 1. Jon Pertwee 2. Tom Baker 3. Peter Davison 4. Sylvester McCoy 5. Christopher Eccleston 6. William Hartnell 7. Patrick Troughton 8. Paul McGann 9. David Tennant 10. Colin Baker The top 2: While Tom Baker held the role the longest, 'The Three Doctors' is my favorite group of episodes. That was during Pertwee's stint. The bottom 2: Tennant would be better if he wasn't such a weenie. Colin Baker was a smug, arrogant prick and never as charming as the others.
  • hahaha everyone hates colin baker

  • Yeah, even the BBC hates him thats why they sacked him.

  • hey! i dont hate him!

  • I like Colin Baker. His stories may have been crap but his performance is always excellent and always makes them watchable

  • His stories may well have been mostly crap, but it was in the Big Finish audio stories where he was really able to shine and prove that he 'could' have been a trully great doctor if he had just been given decent scripts with vision, check out 'Davros' if you don't beleive me, his performance in that is nothing short of fantastic...although natiurally he is over shadowed by Terry Moloy, but thats hardly his fault, Terry is just ASWOME!

  • Yeah Im slowly getting into them but only listened to 2 (both 5 and Nyssa) and hope to listen to some of Colins soon.

  • he was good you're right. i think the BBC were idiots to fire him. the viewers were not going down they just made that up to use sylester mcoy

  • Being honest, Eric Saward in the Twin Dilemma didn't help his era at all. Stories like Vegeance on Varos were exceptions.

  • This is the best opening of the classic series. I love it so much!

  • my favorite theme, and favorite Dr as well.

although Tennant aint too bad..would like to see Sean Pertwee as the next Dr, he would be great.

  • T.Baker's '74 intro is my favorite followed by Pertwee's '73 intro..than Hartnell's '63 intro. Finally this one.

  • Peter Davison has the best Doctor Who theme for the Classic Series ever , even thou it was used for Tom Baker in his final year or two and then was used again for Colin Baker thou changed abit for Colins Title Sequance , long live this theme !!!!! .

Cheers , Jason [ Doctor Who One ]

  • 2nd fav for me! Wasnt old enough to see all of the series. But from the reruns and late 80's ones... Have to say Tom baker '74 opening is my fav, then this one, I liked both of those docs, but Tom moreso, He was always "having fun" with being a timelord & stuff. Made the series a bit more vibrant with his humble yet witty ego; imo. :] btw I was a vid here on YT awhile back with him in it..interviewing himself, it was a riot, I suggest looking for it! (Tom Baker that is)

  • The best DW theme to date I think.

  • Pete was def my favourite Doctor. Not sure why but Tom always scared me (I think is was those eyes 0__0). Mind you I was about 4 years old at the time so it's not surprising. I've got the album version of this theme and sounds so different in stereo and without all the extra sound effects.

  • no peters my faveourite doctor.

    looked weird after his regeneration

    4th - 5th

but on his series he was great.

    lol

  • Good old Peter: my second favourite Doctor!

  • yah pete rules.

  • like his smile

  • like his daughter, woofwoof!:)

  • I have it as my ringtone, which is pretty funny when it goes off on a crowded but otherwise quiet train...

  • whered u get ur ringtone then

  • I downloaded it as a WAV file from dwwaDOTnet and transferred it to my phone.

  • I used to have this as the alarm on my alarm clock. It was magical.

  • wonderful :)

  • i want to see it in hd

  • Yes! The best music - esp. the way it opens...like a smack in the balls...!!

  • Hmm I see your point.

  • It's been a while, but I remember Davison being my favorite doctor, and the music for this era was also my fave.

  • tom bakers last year had this intro too

  • I liked Tom Baker's music as well. It's sorta in that middle part. :)

  • yah. TB's first music was repeated since patrick troughton...

  • how come everyone has the starfield version were the head dosent pop up- i mean thats rare isnt it?

  • if you have the tom baker story The Leisure Hive, look at the extras they have in there and it tells you how to make the starfields
