Can you imagine what sort of barbaric yet inventive methods they had to use to create this absolutely perfect title sequence decades before usable CGI?
i think they should try making the new title sequences like this, it looks more realistic than CGI for some strange reason. same thing with the models. I know it would probably cost more, but it has a really great effect. they should also try making models like the opening sequence for trial of a time lord with the motion camera rig shots, that looks WAY more realistic than CGI
i personaly think this is the best sequence and the second it hits 0:02 it makes me proud to be a Doctor Who fan...
also to the 2 dislikes people are you tom baker and colin baker because tom was the best when peter took over and colin because you were not a good as you could have been?
@AlistairAI I feel a bit bad for Colin Baker, to be honest. He's an example of what happens when you don't back an idea 100%. He was supposed to be the "Dark Doctor", as it were, and that came through in his performances, which were pretty decent, but he was let down by production and writing, I feel. He was supposed to have an all dark-blue ensemble for a start, instead of the crazy clothes, and none of his episodes ever gave him a chance to really portray the character as it should have been.
@EvenflowBlack When you think about it, Chris Eccleston and (to a lesser degree Matt Smith) have channeled Colin Baker's performance. You're right; they should have let him be a darker character instead of making him wear the garish coat and have a cat fetish.
By far the best version of the Doctor Who Theme since the 1963 original , hell , even Murry Gold's 21st Century versions of the Theme are as awesome as this , Perhaps he should base the next Theme after the current new one on this , or perhaps do a modern version of this Theme with modern sounds if people get what i mean .
Maybe the next Title Sequance in the New Series should be something like this one too , after all , the Doctor does come from the stars ! .
anyone know where to get the text font that they use for the name and writer and part of the episode? If sum1 could tell me i'd really appreciate it :P kthnxbi

@Clubpenguin729Minus Actually that's not a guitar bit. It's someone's voice. I wouldn't have guessed it the first time I heard it. Watch the making of this video. It's very enlightening. :)
Peter was a good Dr, don't get me wrong, a bit too squeaky clean though, Baker looked like he took the Tube to work and knew which uni students sold grass, Peter a limo and champagne and caviar.
As a very long standing fan of our dear Doctor, i'll give Matt Smith a running chnace. he look's the part. bet people said the same about Tom Baker when he took over?
Each Doctor has to have a chance. bit annnoyed that Colin, Sylvester and Paul didn't get their go cos they were great Doctors
David Tennant was my favourite of the new series, but I also really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston's take on the Doctor as well. It's a shame he was only apart of the series for such a short time because he did an amazing job in the role.
Not to mention they're the youngest Doctors to take the role. Davison was 29 when he was cast, and Matt was 26 (rumor is he's turned 27 already but IDK) when he was cast.
@cloud4an I'm happy to say I completely disagree with you on that, and always will...Tennant will always be far superior to the poor show Matt Smith has given - the writing of the new series is nothing compared to the Russell T Davies episodes
Poor show? David Tennant undeniably portrayed the Doctor brilliantly and I can understand why many people choose him as their favorite Doctor, but it's completely unfair to Say that Matt Smith has done a poor show. He's done brilliantly as the Doctor, portraying both the youthful and playful vigor of his young body, but also portraying the pain and torment of his past. And on Russel T Davies, all I can say is wow. He is an awful writer, even more so when compared to Moffat.
@cloud4an I have every right to say Matt Smith is a poor doctor - just as you have the right to disagree. He, as far as I am concerned, is the worst doctor there has been.
As for the writing - I find it interesting that Doctor Who has won few, if any, awards since Moffat took over, and the viewing figures have dropped, in comparison to when Russel T Davies was in charge. His writing was exceptional, and is and will always be, superior to the drivel Moffat writes.
@HellahGordon So when it was new it won loads of awards, then when people start getting bored with it its nothing to do with just that, it has to be bad writing and acting?
I have seen most Dr Who episodes ever(apart from the reconstructions) and I found Colin Baker to be the worst but had his good moments wheras Matt Smiths Doctor hasnt had the build up for such a good character.
Moffat has won almost twice as many writing awards as Russell T Davies, 3 of which were for the episode "Blink" alone. And, can you explain what your problem with Matt Smith's Doctor is?
@cloud4an I accept that Blink was indeed a good episode, however, I still think the story lines of the Matt Smith era have been poor in comparison to the previous series.
The end of the David Tennant series was supposed to be a watershed - to allow the new series to have a clean slate, yet it has emerged that Rose, Martha and Donna are all coming back into this series....desperate to get old viewers?? I think so. As for Smith, I simply cannot stand him, aside from the above, I just hate him.

i dont wish to spoil much , but moffet HAS chosen to revamp the tom baker opening titles , created by bernard lodge. He is returning the vortex that morphs into different shapes when things pass through it , and the original logo is now a fiery orange , and matt smiths face appears in that vortex
excellent news :) i am a great supporter of the doctors face appearing in the opening credits so to hear matt's face will actually appear in this vortex , based on a tom baker opening titles then i'm well happy with that
LET GO! Dr. Who isn't yours any more it belongs to a new generation. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's going to be bad. You never know he might even be good!
And if he isn't why would you care when you're the one who got to see the original doctors?
I always thought the oening titles were the same for the 4th DOc's last season and the Peer Davison era, just with different faces. But they are quite different -th baker titles have far more stars and higher contrast (always thought they looked better for some reason, now I know why!). ALso, I never liked the venetian blinds effect - prefer the facial color just fading in.
I like Sylvester McCoy the most, because of being such an enigmatic figure near the end of his run, which in my opinion is what the Doctor should always be.
My third favourite Doctor. My favourite in order of appearnce is Tom baker, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, William Hartnell, Colin Baker, Paul Mcgann
My favorite Doctors in order are: 1. Jon Pertwee 2. Tom Baker 3. Peter Davison 4. Sylvester McCoy 5. Christopher Eccleston 6. William Hartnell 7. Patrick Troughton 8. Paul McGann 9. David Tennant 10. Colin Baker The top 2: While Tom Baker held the role the longest, 'The Three Doctors' is my favorite group of episodes. That was during Pertwee's stint. The bottom 2: Tennant would be better if he wasn't such a weenie. Colin Baker was a smug, arrogant prick and never as charming as the others.
His stories may well have been mostly crap, but it was in the Big Finish audio stories where he was really able to shine and prove that he 'could' have been a trully great doctor if he had just been given decent scripts with vision, check out 'Davros' if you don't beleive me, his performance in that is nothing short of fantastic...although natiurally he is over shadowed by Terry Moloy, but thats hardly his fault, Terry is just ASWOME!
Peter Davison has the best Doctor Who theme for the Classic Series ever , even thou it was used for Tom Baker in his final year or two and then was used again for Colin Baker thou changed abit for Colins Title Sequance , long live this theme !!!!! .
2nd fav for me! Wasnt old enough to see all of the series. But from the reruns and late 80's ones... Have to say Tom baker '74 opening is my fav, then this one, I liked both of those docs, but Tom moreso, He was always "having fun" with being a timelord & stuff. Made the series a bit more vibrant with his humble yet witty ego; imo. :] btw I was a vid here on YT awhile back with him in it..interviewing himself, it was a riot, I suggest looking for it! (Tom Baker that is)
Pete was def my favourite Doctor. Not sure why but Tom always scared me (I think is was those eyes 0__0). Mind you I was about 4 years old at the time so it's not surprising. I've got the album version of this theme and sounds so different in stereo and without all the extra sound effects.

Yeah Im slowly getting into them but only listened to 2 (both 5 and Nyssa) and hope to listen to some of Colins soon.

he was good you're right. i think the BBC were idiots to fire him. the viewers were not going down they just made that up to use sylester mcoy

Being honest, Eric Saward in the Twin Dilemma didn't help his era at all. Stories like Vegeance on Varos were exceptions.

This is the best opening of the classic series. I love it so much!

my favorite theme, and favorite Dr as well.
although Tennant aint too bad..would like to see Sean Pertwee as the next Dr, he would be great.

T.Baker's '74 intro is my favorite followed by Pertwee's '73 intro..than Hartnell's '63 intro. Finally this one.

Peter Davison has the best Doctor Who theme for the Classic Series ever , even thou it was used for Tom Baker in his final year or two and then was used again for Colin Baker thou changed abit for Colins Title Sequance , long live this theme !!!!! .
Cheers , Jason [ Doctor Who One ]

2nd fav for me! Wasnt old enough to see all of the series. But from the reruns and late 80's ones... Have to say Tom baker '74 opening is my fav, then this one, I liked both of those docs, but Tom moreso, He was always "having fun" with being a timelord & stuff. Made the series a bit more vibrant with his humble yet witty ego; imo. :] btw I was a vid here on YT awhile back with him in it..interviewing himself, it was a riot, I suggest looking for it! (Tom Baker that is)

The best DW theme to date I think.

Pete was def my favourite Doctor. Not sure why but Tom always scared me (I think is was those eyes 0__0). Mind you I was about 4 years old at the time so it's not surprising. I've got the album version of this theme and sounds so different in stereo and without all the extra sound effects.

It's been a while, but I remember Davison being my favorite doctor, and the music for this era was also my fave.
