Of course, this version is very good. But there is another one which is extremely interesting: the 1979 mini-series, with Jeremy Brett as Maxim, Joana David as the Girl and Anna Massey as Mrs Danvers.You can watch it there, on you tube. But unfortunately, don't expect to find the DVD: it is not released, and so , many people know Brett only for his embodiment of Sherlock Holmes. Yet, he played many other parts , as you may see by watching the video "A Journey through Time".

Joan Fontaine does an excellent job of playing the nervous newlywed trying to live up to everyone's excpectations, while Judith Anderson also turns in an exceptional performance as the creepy head maid. Overall, enough can not be said of how the story expertly uses sub-plots, deep characters, bizarre twists and chilling climaxes to portray a dead woman's haunting spirit.
