  • What - a dispute over a C46, a CH46, and a CH-46? Really people - what is the big deal? I knew it as a CH-46; a twin bladed chopper that was always our ride, and often mounted with a 50. I was on the first lift into Cunningham. I was also with the first ones to hump off. Being with an 81, I don't recall the company I left with - at 61 I don't really care either - hell is hell - Lima 3/9 - H&S 81s.

I was ground to air liaison and the last person to bard the last helicopter to Vandegrift at the end of the operation along with 2nd Lt. Henry Gross and just a few others from 1st platoon General Raymond Davis was overhead observing and commanding from an OV-!0 Bronco on the Tactical Air Control Party frequency..... The amount of aircraft on station that day was unbelievable .One hell of a day for a 19 year old 2531. S/F
