lol I hope you kids learn a bit more than the archaich Lockean and Hobbean political philosophies. First justify the state, if you do then define how much liberty people should be allowed and/or critize the current system to improve. If you think the state cannot be justified then you'd fall into philosophical anarchism. Then you have other philosophies like libertarianism which like the government but don't like its coercion too much. Hobbes and Locke are a good start thou. Peace

I like Hobbes. The way he describes Leviathan as a means to prevent anarchy is very clever and pretty bad-ass to boot. I think Thomas Hobbes was a nice manly intellectual! :)

Not at all. Parts of him can be debunked but within the modern political tradition his philosophy pretty much holds its own. If you want something that debunks him read Strauss. But he still is pretty good as an approximation in many regards.

Yes and no. Many of those arguments have been further debunked by Carl Schmitt. You know his work on the incompatibility of liberalism and democracy.
