This was the original song. Now that we are an "Air Assault" division, the word "Jump" has been changed to "Assault" and "Men" has been changed to "Soldier" because we are now a co-ed army!
since you're a veteran of the division can u anser my question. how do i join one of the airborne division's? can i choose after i graduate from basic training? or how?
@bikepeddlar6 There are a couple of things you can do. You can try at MEPS, (the processing station), to get your recruiting counselors to give you a guaranteed assignment in writing on your enlistment agreement, but usually they do that if your ASVAB and GT scores are very high, or if you're joining under a critical shortage MOS. You can also put either Fort Campbell (Air Assault) or Fort Bragg (Airborne) down on your Dream Sheet when you're filling it out during in-processing at Basic...CONT.
@bikepeddlar6 CONT...Training, (before the whole thing gets started and you're being issued uniforms, shots, etc.) You have a better chance if your MOS is combat or combat-support related, but you can still get assigned to the 82nd or the 101st with a combat service support MOS, though. You need to be aware of the difference between Air Assault, the 101st), and Airborne, (the 82nd or the 173rd Brigade in Vincenza, Italy). Air Assault works mainly using helicopters as combat platforms...CONT.
@bikepeddlar6 CONT...while Airborne units still use airplanes as the main platform. I knew folks on active duty who had been assigned to both, and they were impressive Soldiers 9 times out of 10. One thing that happened to me was that when I was going through AIT for my MOS, the Drill Sergeants started asking one day if there was anyone interested in going straight to Airborne School right after AIT, and that could happen as well when you go through, depending on the Army's needs.
@bikepeddlar6 You're very welcome, and yes, JROTC will certainly help because it has given you a degree of exposure to the military. Many, many years ago when I was about 15 or 16 years old, I became a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and that was my first exposure to anything military. My parents enrolled me in a military school that followed the Air Force system, and all students were required to join the CAP. It was a great experience!
@armyveteran101st yes that's what got me an interest in the military. well i've always had an interest in it but now that i've had experiences with the military i love it more then ever
@bikepeddlar6 Another thing you need to be very conscious of is that the military is a lifestyle very different to the civilian lifestyle, and it comes with certain restrictions and impositions that civilians don't have to deal with. You will be required to put your personal desires and feelings aside with frequency, and to always follow instructions promptly and without hesitation. That is very difficult for some people to do, and I saw many that just couldn't adapt to this and....CONT.
@bikepeddlar6 CONT...ended up getting kicked out. If you do join, you should do it for the right reasons. Don't do it for the money or because you think it will all be action and excitement. Military life brings many very tough hardships with it, and what got me through it was the pride I always felt in serving our Country in a meaningful way. This may sound corny, but I always felt like I was 10 feet tall and unstoppable wearing my Army uniform, and I always knew my cause was right.
@bikepeddlar6 Damn right it is. In fact, that is probably the most important reason, and the only one that will keep you motivated throughout the entire time you serve. Let me know how it goes, and send me any other questions you might have, OK?
Awesome! Havent heard this since 1985-86... when I served proudly at the 101st.... Germany 87-88.... Fort Carson 1989-90. Operation Desert Storm 1991.
Thank you! I did not serve during the 1st Gulf War, but when I served in Kosovo my CO was a veteran of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, who served in the Battle of Dak To in Vietnam in the late 1960's. He was a very senior Lieutenant Colonel, and I got to love him almost as if he were my father. He was a very, very wise old Soldier who loved the Army, and he taught me a lot of what I know about being a Soldier...Thank you for watching this video!
Hey Brother, i am an American first and share much in common with you. we may be "fighting" for different candidates but when in comes down to OUR Armed Forces, serving and served, ALL POLITICS ASIDE!
