This was the first exmormon story I came across and thank God and thank you Mr. Lamborn so much. You answered questions I didn't even think to ask, and others I dared not ask, and still others that no one in my ward would answer. As a 2 year convert, I thought I was joining another denomination of Christianity not a cult. God bless you for speaking out so honestly and helping untold others like myself.
You sound like someone who has lost the way, what you are saying sounds confusing and misleading, you are making false statement about the church, why don't you start reading the scriptures again and not anti mormon doctrine. I will pray for you.
@hammers1955 Much to the contrary, I have finally 'found the way'. I have never been happier, felt more connected with other humans, and in harmony with my surroundings. I have been reborn into the age of reason, where delusion no longer has me blinded to the wonders of the universe. It is extremely difficult for humans to admit they have been bamboozled by tribal religion, but for those that can, the rewards are beyond measure. You might like the "I am ex-mormon" video series.
Whats right is you speak for yourself and not for us all, I mean you cant assume that every lds member think the same, most things you are talking about I have learnt through my own research, why do people assume the church has to spoon feed us like children, read the Book of Mormon and ask God if its true, without this witness you will struggle when the day of testing comes that is why the church puts great emphasis on the importants of having a strong testimony, the church is true people!
@Dafrogie shur, the church is tru-truly full of people who can't spell, read or write. hmmm, i wonder y??? easily controlled??? easily force-fed bullshit???
@belladonna666999 No thats just me :D i've said it before and I'll say it again "its better to be a uneducated believer then a educated fool" get a life you douche bag :)
this guy in opening prayer is committing blasphemy misquoting the book of john the book of john says that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness 'comprehends it not' not overcomes it not. Watch these people they slip in lies when you don't pay attention if you aren't learned. Joseph smith said D&C 130: 19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.
I believe what I said was that only LDS members who have been given the gift of the Holy Ghost by laying on of hands has the right to the Holy Ghost as a CONSTANT companion. Others (non-members) can still be influenced of course. And I was a member for 45 years, served a mission, etc. I believe this is an accurate portrayal of the doctrine.
@lclamborn So you're saying that prior to Adam humans could be religious AND artistic and math-savvy but now religious people can only be illiterate isolationists. Is that not a contradiction? Did you ever have a testimony of the restored gospel or did you just spend decades deceiving yourself and others? Are you still in a state of self deception now but have just moved your position 180 degrees.?
@LukeAir2008 What I am saying is that there is overwhelming evidence that Adam and Eve are simply Jewish folklore, like the universal flood and Noah's ark. And the doctrine of St. Augustine, which was introduced well after the death of Christ, where the need for a Savior stems from the fall of Adam, is therefore nonsensical. Since there was no fall, there was no need for a Savior, and the foundational premise for Christianity is null and void.
@lclamborn58 It wasn't that long ago that respectable newspapers were reporting that scientists had discovered a Mitochondrial Eve. I read Brian Sykes's book 'The Seven Daughters of Eve' and he asserts that all persons of white european lineage have a common ancestor and are all decendants of one of her seven daughters. Where did you get your science from?
@LukeAir2008 A good place to start is the world population data on the US Census Bureau website. They reference, in tabulated form, world population estimates and the peer-reviewed sources of these estimates. Even new world archaelogy confirms that humans were here in the good old USA thousands of years before the time of Adam and Eve.
Sadly, you won't find these types of books at Deseret Book.
@lclamborn58 I think it is definately wishful thinking on your part. Having rejected the restored gospel you now desperately seek for 'evidence' to support your decision. If you're like the vast majority of ex-mormons you will never find peace or contentment. You will continue to have inner turmoil and a sense of 'time is running out'. You will continue to clutch at any straw in the hope of finding justification but I fear you will never be happy.
@LukeAir2008 You are very gracious. I also wish you true and lasting happiness. I have always been a very happy person. To some degree, I think I have lived a charmed life. My experience in coming across new information which contradicted my long-cherised tribal myths was actually the opposite. The best explanation of my experience is going to be available beginning this coming Sunday on a website with former members telling their stories. A short three minute video says it all.
@lclamborn58 Dont think for a moment that I wish you ill. If you are sincere then you can only act on what you believe to be right. Its just that I think there is an integral part of you which knows what is true and you're fighting against it.
@lclamborn All scientific conclusions are tentative pending the next discovery or result of an experiment. A genetic study in Iceland using DNA tracing concluded that 2nd and 3rd generation ancestors of Icelanders had never existed even though their posterity had living memories and photographic evidence of their existence. My testimony and experience is that the LDS church is true. I have experienced first hand the power of the Holy Ghost. I had never experienced that prior to joining the LDS
I gave the Church the best 33yrs. of my life and I can tell you all now, God and truth is not to be found in any religion. I guess the angel was right, lol!
@lclamborn So you're saying that because you haven't experienced the Holy Ghost (or you have conveniently forgotten you have) that nobody else has either. I have experienced the Holy Ghost. He is real. My testimony and first hand knowledge trumps your absence of knowledge and testimony. And now that you're in the Great and Spacious building you want others to join you? Ha ha. No thanks.
@LukeAir2008 By the way, how do you reconcile the irrefutible evidence for millions of artistic, religious, tool-using, math savvy humans living before the time of Adam and Eve? If there was no Adam, there was no fall of Adam, and no need for a Savior. This puts Christianity on VERY shaky ground. How do you get around this? Or do you just ignore it? In 100 years, Christianity and hopefully Islam will be fading kooky traditions, embraced only by illiterate isolatonists... IMO.
@lukeair2008 The 'Holy Ghost' is part of religious myth, not really interesting to me any more. You might want to get a copy of "Standing for Something More", where I discuss how the doctrine of the Holy Ghost is a great mind control tool for religion. The question you need to ask is not whether you have and understand religion, does religion have you, and how is religion blocking your understanding of the real world around you.
I am a naturalist now. There is irrefutible evidence that artistic, tool-using, intelligent, and religious humans lived 10's of thousands of years before Adam and Eve. In fact, the US Census Bureau shows current estimates of human population at the time of Adam of Eve to be about 4-5 million people. Not 5000, not 50,000, not 500,000, but FIVE MILLION. If there was no Adam, there was no fall of Adam, which obviates the need for a savior, and Christianity folds like a cheap suit.
Hey leeuniverse, I could tell lies for all the rest of my days and never hope to catch up to the LDS church. With each each falsehood you embrace, you sink deeper into deception, and your life experience is diminished. Take a few months and take an honest objective look into Mormonism, the falsehoods are relatively easy to recognize if you retain your objectivism. Good luck.
This guy wasn't even a mormon..... At least anything significant. Because every single mormon knows that we accept ALL TRUTH from where-ever it comes, not just the Church. Know-one in the Church considers outsiders or anything outside of the Church as "suspect"..... That is a complete LIE.
yo. lee. silly person. I love how you doubt the "mormon membership" of this man, but yet you believe in an 18290's treasure hunter who translated lightweight gold plates with a magical seer stone placed in a hat and claimed his writings to be the true word of God. simply amazing! all for the glory of godhood and planet making thru the celestial room of the holy mormon temples.
yeah. MJ had it in his eyes too. So did OJ... and so did Joseph Smith. Criminality is all in the eys... (((thank God you don't work in law enforcement))) whew. LOL
@kleykenb And I have a relative in law enforcement originally from NYC who got asked to move to utah among other cops who were asked from other big cities to crack down on the SCUM mormon criminals that still walk the streets in utah because of biased cops, lawyers and judges who ARE mormon.. oh and the mormons who get away with molesting children
first, you need to join the most ridiculous cultish religion around (the mormon church). Then, you need to be baptised by someone who gloats about having an authority that he really doesn't have. then you simply tell other members of the church the true history of the LDS movement and then they will excommunicate you.
I'm no mormon but.. if you are a member of THE MORMON CHURCH doesn't that infer the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? I'm quite sure that THAT church does not believe in polygamy
I don't have room to show everything, but it is FAR from dishonest, and YOU know it.
In context it's about how to talk to an investigator and give them info that makes them more likely to accept, and hide what would make them reject. As for church history, it's about hiding the truth that might not be faith promoting. If it's God's One True Church, ALL THINGS should be faith promoting.
They have policies about which "truth" to tell and what not to. Who does that?!
You are insinuating that an ENTIRE religion has conspired with each other to lie to people in order to get them to join the church....based on a few quotes taken out of context...
I'm sorry, but the allegation couldn't stand with 8 legs on concrete.
A genuine approach to finding truth would be to really search what the religion teaches, ALL of it--not assigning mal-intent to a few quotes---AND get to know the people of that religion--in their homes, and at their houses of worship.
No worries- LDS failed at that, too! I took the lessons, and I attended at a wardhouse for months. I've read the BoM, D&C, etc. I was "adopted" by a family while I was in college- I'd attend with them, then have dinner w/ them on Sundays. Nice folks, but I still didn't buy their religion.
I've looked at this from every angle- which is the problem. I believe the BIBLE is true, and there are too many contradictions. I ALSO learned about the history. I've heard it all- and I reject it. Sorry.
Don't need to apologize. In fact, this statement was probably the most honest one you've made :)
I respect your decisions---as it is you and only you responsible for them and the consequences that flow from them. My decisions are not incumbent upon yours, and I do not feel threatened in any way--so no worries.
Aside from where we may disagree--we probably share a great deal in common.
Information about our religion is readily available ON THE INTERNET from MANY sources, including the church itself.
I know the restored gospel is true... I allow myself to be too concerned with how the expression of this belief is to be received, that I often withdraw that declaration from neighbors and friends. That works against the grain of your argument that we are openly deceiving others.
We are simply not open enough about the plain truth.
Nope. I made my decisions about LDS based on prayer, knowledge, comparing it to the Bible, looking into the history of the church, looking into the doctrines (and finding them full of heresy) and reading the BoM. I fasted, prayed and really asked if it was true- b/c I of course want all that God has for me.
AFTER I reject LDS as being false I found quotes like these and other things that merely solidified by decision.
This is LDS guy is proud and he really does not understand his former LDS teachings to say the things he does - He seeks the accolades of the world (in this case those he is entertaining here). Notice how he says he worked with this eveangelical for YEARS - meaning he was already on his way out - I doubt he was even active in the church - sure sounds like he was not active in the church - that is ususally the case with these who leave - poor understanding of the Gospel - looking for attention
It is interesting how members of the LDS Church are so quick to accuse others of being 'self-righteous'. When I was a Mormon, I was taught that ONLY members of the church have rights to inspiration of the Holy Ghost and ONLY faithful LDS would be exalted and live with God after this life. The billions of other believers in Christ, Allah, etc are all involved in self-deceit. Only the Mormons have all the truth. If this is not the pinnacle of self-righteous arrogance, I do not know what is.
@lclamborn whats worse is that they base that arrogance on a religion that loosely bases its ideas on the very book (the bible) that absolutely destroys mormonism.
@anonazero Your religions interpretations of the Bible is not the Bible..... I know because I knew mormonism from the Bible while in many religions but reading and seeing what was in the Bible Alone long before I knew of mormonism, and that none of the other religions actually fit what the Bible stated IN FULL. So, don't presume your interpretation of the Bible as being the Bible, it's not one and the same.
@lclamborn You never actually knew Mormonism if you actually think all this..... It's no wonder you have gotten everything else wrong. To further prove you wrong, Temple work is done for EVERYONE, not simply Mormons, so obviously "Faithful LDS" aren't going to be the only ones Exalted to live with God. Your perversion of Mormonism in ALL respects is not Mormonism, it is of you. :( You have deceived yourself out of mormonism.....
don't you mean temple work is done for everyone that the LDS can find records for... which means temple work can only benefit those who are lucky enough to have their names found in earthly records. wow, and next you will tell me that Santa Claus really exists and visits every house... or is it just mormons houses?
what happens to the billions of people that have lived on earth whose names have never been recorded?
@momoboy2010 There is revelation that explains that during the Millennium when the "vail" will be very thin and Christ will even be on the earth, that is when most of the Temple work will be done. Everyones name is recorded on in the Book of Life, thus, you really should stop mocking. Whatsoever is bound on earth by the proper authority and accepted will come to pass. Read 1 Peter 4:6..... and get a clue. God will provide a way for ALL to know and accept his Gospel.
@lclamborn Thats not really true is it? The Holy Ghost can influence anyone. The Gift of the Holy Ghost administered by the laying on of hands is only given to those who are baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38, Acts 8:17
@lclamborn, i'm just going to clarify some things that you seem to have blanked. Never has that or will it be said that members are the only ones with the rights to inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Members receive the gift of the Holy Ghost so that it may be there constant companion, but only as they are worthy. Non-members do not have this gift, but they can receive inspiration. Secondly, only people who accept Christ and follow his teaching will live with God, and all will have their chance.
@lclamborn I have been LDS for 36 years and what you say is false. I have never been told that only member can be inspired by the Holy Ghost. Not only LDS can be exalted.
@lclamborn I have been raised in the LDS (mormon) religion and i have NEVER been taugh that only members have the rights to inspiration.... it is taught that ALL people are open to the ispiration and teachings of the Holy Ghost, as long as they are tryig to live righteously....and i have NEVER her the CHURCH to accuse anyone of being self-righteous... i am sure there has been members of the church that have... but that could be said of any members of any religion..
@Jakkun78 Look at the official missionary discussions (at least from a few years ago when I went) According to those official LDS church documents non-members can feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Accordingly thats why people can become converted. HOWEVER, the constant companionship and inspiration of the Holy Ghost is reserved for members of the church only. And the church for sure teaches that they are the only true church and the only ones going to heaven. Hence baptism for the dead.
@bingoe4 there is a difference between sporadic inspiration and guidance from the Holy Ghost and the gift of the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost...
@Jakkun78 So then tell me the purpose of the ordinance of the "Gift of the Holy Ghost"? If everyone is already entitled to equal inspiration, regardless of their faith, then why the ordinance? Should it be cancelled? I was taught that non-members can have sporadic inspriation from the HG and the "Light of Christ", which leads them to conversion, but only members who have this ordinance and who remain faithful have the right to the constant companionship of the HG.
@lclamborn58 there is a difference between sporadic inspiration and guidance from the Holy Ghost and the gift of the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost...
@Jakkun78 Yes! Exactly what I articulated to the crowd. The LDS think they have more access to the spirit than other people in other faiths. Basically, it is a "my Jesus is better than your Jesus" competition. And every religion of course thinks there version of the 'gospel' is better than any other. It is all so juvenile....
@lclamborn What you say sounds more like a catholic church. I am an LDS member. I'm not feeling it is perfect but no denomination is perfect. I personally came from a baptist home. I would like to change to the RLDS Community of Christ church. They teach the love of Christ & use the Bible, the BOM, & believe in the Trinity. They were the church that Emma Smith stayed in. She did not go to Utah & Josephs eldest son Joseph Smith lll was Pres. There has never been polygamy at RLDS.
'thanks for coming...we wanted to invite an adulterer to discuss a religion they now denounce...with that, we'll open with a word of prayer"
"Heavenly Father, we are grateful this adulterer was so gracious to come here to validate himself and his sin by throwing 'mormonism' under the bus...it suits both our needs--and we're grateful for that!"
..Bland you may want to review Joseph Smith"s 'reume" before you accuse anyone of "sel righteousness":viz:. changing revelations to justify a "life-style change (polygamy), bank-fraud (Kirkland), disrorting Old Test.narrative to justify racism against blacks, forgery of documents (book of abraham), hypocrisy (joining a methodist church after that supposed first "apparition") , necromancy (talking with "spirits"...thats quite a "rap sheet", don't you think for a "prophet of restoration"?
. Bland....Much to the dismay of the Mormon church we are no longer in the "pre-google" age and we CAN know find out the TRUE history of your prohet that your church has so deftly concealed from you bland...you can choose to close your eyes but the data is there...BYU professors, former mormon bishops, sholars , life-long members are finding the courage and grace to to look...their search for the truth is greater than their fear of excommunication from the mormon church......
Actually--the 'google' age does not necessarily mean people are more informed---it means there is MORE information readily available to most people---that information is both good, and bad in terms of reliability.
If you think googling a subject will always give you the best information---you're lazy. People think that just because there is a website with 'information' on it--that somehow is a reliable source.
..AND, bland we can google more information what the mormon church conceals from its members...like removed chapters of the D&C or adding or subtracting parts of the book of mormon under the guise of "new revelations" from a "living prophet" (which sometimes contradict a previous one: polygamy, racism etc.).OR how the the mormon church has to "change", spin, tweak, re-invent, its doctrines or "langgauge" in order to sound to spiritually, religiously or politically "correct".to the p;ublic.
you keep talking to yourself. Did you even read what I said? or are you cutting and pasting on various anti-mormon channels?
Information isn't always reliable. Your characterizations of 'information' people find on the internet is the same as characterizing gossip as 'information'.
I wonder if he knows excommunication means the severing of the tie to god, and the inability to enter heaven ever again. That's what the pope used to do to wives and husbands that committed adultery.
Thank you, Lyndon for your witness for the True gospel "handed down from the apostles" that NEVER needed "restoration" or "another testament" but only our reconciling to it..No true believer in the in Jesus can ever justify being in the mormon church, a church which at its very inception was already steeped in such false doctrines, whose founders distorted old testament narrative to justify immorality (polygamy) and racism against blacks...
..Great video...God, in His mercy is delivering many mormons from tne false doctrines of joseph smith...SEE this youtube video: FROM LDS TO JESUS (Micah)...its the moving testimony of a young mormon missionary who after careul and honest study like Lyndon rejected the false doctrines of mormonism, embracing instead the true "gospel handed down from the apostles" that NEVER needed "restoration" or "another testament" but only our reconciling to it...
Might want to get your facts straight. No possible way Joseph Smith could have been there when Brigham Young sent out the order to the Mormon Batallion. That was 2 years after the prophet died. So, nice try, but it doesn't buy gas.
That said, I'm willing to forgive him that one. But you still have to be cautious about believing everything this guy says.
Perhaps having an actual and current Mormon be a guest to talk about MORMONISM?! Common sense. If he was excommunicated then (1) there was a dang good reason for it (and he was given a fair chance to take control the situation) and (2) he wouldn't exactly have any motivation to give FAIR insight into the Church.
It will be interesting to hear what he did to merit excommunication.
There are many things the mormon church denies and conceals about its history and founder, joseph smith to its members..the Nauvoo Expositor was a newspaper published by early mormon church members exposing smith as a false prophet for his immorality(polygamy) which they called his "whoredom"...there was only ONE issue because joseph smith then mayor of the town had his militia destroy the printing press..you can view it on-line in its original news-print format..type" 1844 NAUVOO EXPOSITOR.
This was not even entertaining. Poor guy. At least he has his job. Maybe he does well there. He is not convincing here. To be a member of an organization - any group and them fight with the group. Well - anyone would be asked to leave. Then you go and talk about it. Wonderful. Then your answers questions that show you do not know what you were suppose to know. Who let you be a teacher? Goes to show you that if you want to know anything - go to the source.
The problem with that is that the source might not tell you the whole truth. It might not even tell you the truth at all. It might only tell you information in the way it wants you to perceive it. This is what the LDS Church does and I'm glad level-headed people like Lyndon Lamborn are around to make the Mormon Church accountable.
its only when man seem to think he knows more than God. and begins to act upon it that there is a problem and without repentance it leads into excommunication. Think about it if your a member of a club and you are talking against the other members of the club or teaching a different set of rules than the ones that club has set. Are you gonna want to stay in that club if you dont believe in it. No and the leader (Christ) probably doesnt want you there either. Kicking you out was a favor from him
..Well the one you need to excommunicate is Joseph Smith and ALL those who follow and promotes his false teachings...he THOUGHT he "knew more than God" distorting and perverting old testament narrative to justify immoraity (polygamy) and racism against blacks...GOD is delivering MANY mormons like lyndon from falsehood and into a true believivg christian church..they gladly wear their mormon excommunication as a BADGE of HONOR for the TRUE Jesus of the new testament..See MY favoites on youtube..
Yes I can see where it would be honorable for a person that serves the will of Satan to be written out of the book of life and into satans book. Good luck with that. I'll see you on the battle feild. With my sword in your stomach.
to marco-darko..you're the second mormon to threaten my life on this site...unlike your romanticised "martyr" joseph smith who went to his death with a gun (sword) in his hands i WILLIINGLY sacrifice EVERYTHING for the TRUTH in the REAL JESUS of the new testament who went WILLINGLY (wiythout a sword in his hands) to His Death for me...He is the JESUS that would NEVER sanction the immorality(polygamy) and spiritual racism of joseph smith and those who promote and defend that lothario.
Did you take that as a death threat. Well what battlefield do you think I was refering too? I am sorry for the miscommuntication I was in no way threating your life. It is my belief that we will meet someday in battle against one anohter if you do not stop trying to earn your way into hell. By preaching the will of Satan. There is nothing of God about you. If there was you would feel the spirit and listen to it. Which would change your actions as well. But there is no such luck so far.
..the Spirit of HAS spoken in Matt.16:18-19...the church in THAT verse is definitely NOT the mormon church...you can howver find YOUR church in Gal.1 8-9...again i repeat and WILL repeat this over and over to your mormon : a church that was steeped i immorality (polygamy) and racissm against ANY of God's creatures CANNOT be of God or holy no matter how much the mormon church continues to 'retract', spin, and tweak its false doctrines out out of poltical or religious "correctness"....
For the living know they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Knowing this how can a dead person receive 'baptism' into the mormon church? Either the Bible is 100 percent correct and mormon teaching is wrong or the Bible is false and mormon teaching is 100 percent correct. Which is it?
Hmmm, I wonder if this is how you talk to people when you're knocking on doors? Or are you a true represensation of Mormonism, kind and sweet to someone out in public but laughing at them behind church walls?
You want to know when I laugh at morons, excuse me i mean mormons? When they try to preach the gospel of joseph smith at my door and I tell them that like mohammed mr. smith is a false prophet and one day he will be on his knees, quivering before Christ, begging forgiveness for such unspeakable blasphemy. What makes me laugh is the anger in their eyes. They can never really hide it. And through it all they are always all smiles.
mr. smith was a perpatrator of slanderous(or in this case blasphemous) propoganda. he knew, like hitler knew later, that the bigger the lie you tell the more people will believe it.
It looks like mr. smith was right on that account.
you can bite my everloveing mormon ass joe smith was "moreman" than youl ever be even if you dont like him read of the troubles he went through heres one one night he was tared and feathrd and he saw the mens faces then that evry sunday he came to church to preach and those very same men wher there and he was sore and brused and scared but he did not say one word against them he no guiles with any man he even went knowingly to his own death he faced persocution his whole live and not once
LDS author Todd Compton wrote, The motivation for this mobbing has been debated. Clark Bradenallegedthat Marindas brother Eli led a mob against Smith because the prophet had been too intimate with Marinda. This tradition suggests that Smith may have married Marinda at this early time, and some circumstantial factors support such a possibility...
"...The castration attempt might be taken as evidence that the mob felt that Joseph had committed a sexual impropriety; since the attempt is reported by [Marinda's brother who became LDS apostle] Luke Johnson, there is no good reason to doubt it.
Also, they had planned the operation in advance, as they brought along a doctor to perform it. The first revelations had been received in 1831, by historian Danel Bachmans dating." (In Sacred Loneliness, page 231).
We have circumstantial evidence. Nothing occurs in a vacuum. Horny Joe was not tarred and feathered because he was a humble servant of god. It's a bit more complicated than that.
Wasn't Joseph in Egypt accused of the same crime? He fled from Potiphar's wife. Circumstantial evidence alone doesn't win court cases. People's 'maybes' don't prove truth either. Still doesn't explain all the other times he was jailed and mobbed. Amazing that for a period of great religion conviction these people singled out one religion that actually had Christ's name in its title.
Sure it does. It even wins murder cases sometimes. Remember the Scott Peterson murder case? The guy who murdered his pregnent wife in CA? 24hr cable news wouldn't shut up about that case for two years.
"Still doesn't explain all the other times he was jailed and mobbed."
The last time he was jailed was for the destruction of the Nauvoo Expositor press.
the point is that there is no historical evidence, only hearsay that doesn't can't even be confirmed as evidence and that no one can confirm these claims and no one will. that's like saying 'my friend who knew that particular murderer said that he might have done it because...'
It's not hearsay at all. Luke Johnson, an asspostle, gave a first hand account. familysearch d o t org, an official cult website, confirms the adulterous relationship with Marinda.
did he ever complane not ever just do one thing for yourself look him up and if not for yourself for me and OUR god and OUR Savior Jesus Christ please...
..my last comment was for kramermdk..to Mr lamborn: GOD bless you for your courageous and awesome witness for the True JESUS of the new testament..as it says in the Bible: "..and if wicked men insult and hate you all because of Me: Blessed, blessed are you!!"...
I'm quite surprised that this guy (and the rest of you who aren't LDS), really think that we keep secrets in the church! Everything is out there...it may not be discussed (what kind of enlightenment would be achieved?) but it's also not hidden! The Mormon church is a christian church...we believe in Christ, we believe in the Bible, not really sure what everyone is in such an uproar over except for mis-information!
..the jesus you believe in is NOT the JESUS of the new testament...He would NEVER sanction the false teachings that your mormon church was ALREADY steeped in at its very INCEPTION: immorality (polygamy), racism against God's creatures (blacks), sorcery (seer-stones), forgery (book of abraham)..your journal of discourses vol 7. pg 290-291 ALONE speaks VOLUMES why folks should stay away from the false gospel of joseph smith and those who defend and promote him...
You think that Mormonism changed you families life? Try Christianity! The true Jesus will Rock your World!
Are you saved? have you done enogh works to get to heaven? Luck for you its not to late, come to the truth. Read the Bible the true, complete & only word of God!
The roots are of little value when the apple has fallen far from the tree...this man keep enphezising his roots yet little of his mistakes/issues within his years as members
I love this guy. I am LDS--active and believing--for the record. I find Lyndon honest and fascinating. I plan on reading his stuff and following up with whatever pops up with his name associated with it.
He claims these things that have caused his exommunication and denouncing of the faith, as being hidden. Hidden they are not. There is however, a big difference between "hidden" (suppressed) and not readily available. ALL of his qualms have been discussed in my LDS family for years.
Even the Mormon Authorities say to show "thine self approved." No blind thought there. Brigham Young was the first to say that! Hive, you need to study more about the past leaders of the church and what they say about certain things. The blind faith from those who will not study and question their own church to make sure that what is being said or taught is not taken out of context. The whole "faith of our fathers" thing is not what someone should base their own faith on.
You know, when I was Mormon, my priesthood husband told me, "Yours is not to ask the reason why, yours is to DO or DIE!" Encouraging words coming from one in authority.
We, as humans, Christians, Mormons, etc., need to ask questions to show ourselves approved. Test all things, not just some.
It's always "THEY", isn't it Hiver. Try turning that around and apply it to the LDS church and it's non-disclosure policy--ever learning and never able to come to...truth.
For you HONEST Mormons here is a question to ask in class (if it's on topic--ie. JS).
"Why did JS choose to not inform Emma, nor LDS membership, nor the community of his "spiritual wifery"?--in fact, denying it to his death. Did this violate D&C 132:61--the 'consent' of the first wife (Emma)? I have collected the data from LDS sources showing clearly that this did happen. I personally think that Joseph knew he was God's Prophet and that anything he did was acceptable. What do you think?
Then an honest question for Chirstians would be to ask why we do not know the why or what of Christ's 40 day post-resurrection ministry.
The very same kind of error claimed by our critics of Joseph Smith was the same error that Christ's critics claimed him of having, they would claim that a guy who spent all day hanging out with harlots and sinners wasn't on the right path. Then there's Moses, who's own brother and sister protested his second wife. If keeping things from the general
The 1800 year difference is excuse enough re "Joseph Smith was the same error that Christ's critics claimed". Comparing JS to JC is bad enough but 180 years of history compared to 2000 years? You are grasping again, Hiver. Get real.
I didn't ask for your opinion on the "consent" issue, nor do I care to question Xtians about anything. YOU wanted a poss. question for GD class. I gave you the Emma/consent/JS lying to everyone about his "spiritual wifery" question. Your opinion on it is irrelevant.
congregation is something that is wrong then the length of the OT has issues with such.
As to the consent of Emma it's rather clear he had it. Simply acting in opposition to the doings of the Church, or it's prophet, does not mean consent was not initially given, and that's all that's required in a gospel that takes people at their word when they, of their own will and choice, decide to enter into covenant with God. It's an eternal one so there's no obligation free exit clause after the fact.
Emma gave JS consent? There you go with another unsupported claim. What IS clear is he did NOT have it. Emma kicking the ass of one of the wives down a flight of stairs shows she was all for it, huh? Right!!
She did not reveal it, as was the requisite, such demonstrates her consent. Israel consented to the position of Moses when they followed him out of Egypt, that didn't mean they wouldn't fight him once they'd left. There's a difference between consent and steadfast adherence to previously given consent.
You don't understand the doctrine or the concepts. If you've personally had revelation that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God then it follows that the Church has God's authority. You are suppose to follow their council wherein they have authority to give it. But there's
Even if you believe in the BoM and JS, that doesn't mean the current caretakes of the LDS church necessarily act in the name of God. For example, Doctrine & Covenants 121:37 says that those who exercise unrighteous dominion lose their power and authority.
Hive Its time to give up this nonsense. The game is up for this church .Its simply based on deception and lies and you are a victim of it yourself. Get out now before future embarrassing changes and U turns like the recent re wording of the BofM introduction.
nothing in there about asking questions. If your Bishop would say that then he was mistaken. Knock and it shall be open unto you. The problem comes when you predetermine the answer to your questions or when you allow your desire to either keep you from getting an answer OR send you to the wrong out.
Forget the "predetermined answers" BS, Hiver. Prove for yourself this "questioning" thing is VERY frowned upon--in depth questioning for sure. ESPECIALLY if you pose follow-up questions showing that you don't accept the rote answers you get. Show up at Gospel Doctrine class, EQ class, HP class RS class, with a list of pointed questions. If you can't come up with the questions and the follow-ups, I'll be happy to help.
It is NOT whether or not YOU have an answer or not. The purpose here (as you very well know) is to get the feedback from ward leadership to verify your "theory" (that questioning is encouraged by the church). I say it is NOT, based on personal experience and the experience of others. I have heard it said that if you never want to hold the office of Bishop or higher, ask hard and even embarrasing (for the church) questions. Unquestioning loyalty is a requirment for advancement.
No. I can assure you that such will only get you the 'security' from getting such a position if you demonstrate an unwillingness to want to find answers to your questions. Murmuring isn't merely asking questions or merely questioning authority or having doubts, it's having doubts and questioning authority in a manner which demonstrates that you don't want to resolve the situation. I'm not going to present a question unless you can give me one I don't know the answer for AND is one that needs

You MAY get away with asking a tough question. However, to remain in good standing with the church you MUST agree with the rote, cookie cutter, usually simplistic and often LAME answer given (bow your head and say yes). If you DARE to follow-up with challenges (LDS source material notwithstanding)to the rote answer you WILL find yourself being a designated troublemaker and not fit for advancement. ONLY CLONES ("yes men") allowed to advance.

I believe what I said was that only LDS members who have been given the gift of the Holy Ghost by laying on of hands has the right to the Holy Ghost as a CONSTANT companion. Others (non-members) can still be influenced of course. And I was a member for 45 years, served a mission, etc. I believe this is an accurate portrayal of the doctrine.
lclamborn58 1 year ago
@lclamborn So you're saying that prior to Adam humans could be religious AND artistic and math-savvy but now religious people can only be illiterate isolationists. Is that not a contradiction? Did you ever have a testimony of the restored gospel or did you just spend decades deceiving yourself and others? Are you still in a state of self deception now but have just moved your position 180 degrees.?
LukeAir2008 1 year ago
@LukeAir2008 What I am saying is that there is overwhelming evidence that Adam and Eve are simply Jewish folklore, like the universal flood and Noah's ark. And the doctrine of St. Augustine, which was introduced well after the death of Christ, where the need for a Savior stems from the fall of Adam, is therefore nonsensical. Since there was no fall, there was no need for a Savior, and the foundational premise for Christianity is null and void.
lclamborn58 1 year ago
@lclamborn58 It wasn't that long ago that respectable newspapers were reporting that scientists had discovered a Mitochondrial Eve. I read Brian Sykes's book 'The Seven Daughters of Eve' and he asserts that all persons of white european lineage have a common ancestor and are all decendants of one of her seven daughters. Where did you get your science from?
LukeAir2008 1 year ago
@LukeAir2008 A good place to start is the world population data on the US Census Bureau website. They reference, in tabulated form, world population estimates and the peer-reviewed sources of these estimates. Even new world archaelogy confirms that humans were here in the good old USA thousands of years before the time of Adam and Eve.
Sadly, you won't find these types of books at Deseret Book.
lclamborn58 1 year ago
@lclamborn58 I think it is definately wishful thinking on your part. Having rejected the restored gospel you now desperately seek for 'evidence' to support your decision. If you're like the vast majority of ex-mormons you will never find peace or contentment. You will continue to have inner turmoil and a sense of 'time is running out'. You will continue to clutch at any straw in the hope of finding justification but I fear you will never be happy.
LukeAir2008 1 year ago
@LukeAir2008 You are very gracious. I also wish you true and lasting happiness. I have always been a very happy person. To some degree, I think I have lived a charmed life. My experience in coming across new information which contradicted my long-cherised tribal myths was actually the opposite. The best explanation of my experience is going to be available beginning this coming Sunday on a website with former members telling their stories. A short three minute video says it all.

LukeAir2008 1 year ago
@LukeAir2008 By the way, how do you reconcile the irrefutible evidence for millions of artistic, religious, tool-using, math savvy humans living before the time of Adam and Eve? If there was no Adam, there was no fall of Adam, and no need for a Savior. This puts Christianity on VERY shaky ground. How do you get around this? Or do you just ignore it? In 100 years, Christianity and hopefully Islam will be fading kooky traditions, embraced only by illiterate isolatonists... IMO.
lclamborn 1 year ago
@lukeair2008 The 'Holy Ghost' is part of religious myth, not really interesting to me any more. You might want to get a copy of "Standing for Something More", where I discuss how the doctrine of the Holy Ghost is a great mind control tool for religion. The question you need to ask is not whether you have and understand religion, does religion have you, and how is religion blocking your understanding of the real world around you.
lclamborn 1 year ago
I am a naturalist now. There is irrefutible evidence that artistic, tool-using, intelligent, and religious humans lived 10's of thousands of years before Adam and Eve. In fact, the US Census Bureau shows current estimates of human population at the time of Adam of Eve to be about 4-5 million people. Not 5000, not 50,000, not 500,000, but FIVE MILLION. If there was no Adam, there was no fall of Adam, which obviates the need for a savior, and Christianity folds like a cheap suit.

Let's look at how info is handled in LDS.
"Never give meat, when milk will do."
Robert Millet, a Professor at BYU
"IT'S WRONG TO CRITICIZE LEADERS OF THE (MORMON) CHURCH, EVEN IF THE CRITICISM IS TRUE"
Dallin Oaks, LDS apostle
"Some things that are true are not very useful."
Boyd K. Packer
"The merciful companion to truth is silence, some truths are best left unsaid."
Apostle Russel M Nelson
Now, does that sound like an org you can trust to give you the whole truth?
JAMaddict 2 years ago
Yup.
I have NO ISSUE with those statements--in fact, I'm probably the only one out of the two of us who actually heard them in context.
Your attempts here are intellectually dishonest, and you know it.
blandinthebasement 2 years ago
I don't have room to show everything, but it is FAR from dishonest, and YOU know it.
In context it's about how to talk to an investigator and give them info that makes them more likely to accept, and hide what would make them reject. As for church history, it's about hiding the truth that might not be faith promoting. If it's God's One True Church, ALL THINGS should be faith promoting.
They have policies about which "truth" to tell and what not to. Who does that?!
JAMaddict 2 years ago
You are insinuating that an ENTIRE religion has conspired with each other to lie to people in order to get them to join the church....based on a few quotes taken out of context...
I'm sorry, but the allegation couldn't stand with 8 legs on concrete.
A genuine approach to finding truth would be to really search what the religion teaches, ALL of it--not assigning mal-intent to a few quotes---AND get to know the people of that religion--in their homes, and at their houses of worship.
blandinthebasement 2 years ago
No worries- LDS failed at that, too! I took the lessons, and I attended at a wardhouse for months. I've read the BoM, D&C, etc. I was "adopted" by a family while I was in college- I'd attend with them, then have dinner w/ them on Sundays. Nice folks, but I still didn't buy their religion.
I've looked at this from every angle- which is the problem. I believe the BIBLE is true, and there are too many contradictions. I ALSO learned about the history. I've heard it all- and I reject it. Sorry.
JAMaddict 2 years ago
Don't need to apologize. In fact, this statement was probably the most honest one you've made :)
I respect your decisions---as it is you and only you responsible for them and the consequences that flow from them. My decisions are not incumbent upon yours, and I do not feel threatened in any way--so no worries.
Aside from where we may disagree--we probably share a great deal in common.
Have a wonderful weekend!
blandinthebasement 2 years ago
i'm sorry, but you do not "buy" it, you believe it or you don't. If you won't believe then everything will seem wrong.

We are simply not open enough about the plain truth.
blandinthebasement 2 years ago
agreed...
SakarianOutcast 2 years ago
and you choose to label the church based off these statements? Fantastic!
BLKMRM 2 years ago

I know because I knew mormonism from the Bible while in many religions but reading and seeing what was in the Bible Alone long before I knew of mormonism, and that none of the other religions actually fit what the Bible stated IN FULL. @lclamborn Thats not really true is it? The Holy Ghost can influence anyone. The Gift of the Holy Ghost administered by the laying on of hands is only given to those who are baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38, Acts 8:17
LukeAir2008 1 year ago
@lclamborn, i'm just going to clarify some things that you seem to have blanked. Never has that or will it be said that members are the only ones with the rights to inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Members receive the gift of the Holy Ghost so that it may be there constant companion, but only as they are worthy. Non-members do not have this gift, but they can receive inspiration. Secondly, only people who accept Christ and follow his teaching will live with God, and all will have their chance.

@Jakkun78 So then tell me the purpose of the ordinance of the "Gift of the Holy Ghost"? If everyone is already entitled to equal inspiration, regardless of their faith, then why the ordinance? If you think googling a subject will always give you the best information---you're lazy. People think that just because there is a website with 'information' on it--that somehow is a reliable source.
blandinthebasement 2 years ago
..AND, bland we can google more information what the mormon church conceals from its members...like removed chapters of the D&C or adding or subtracting parts of the book of mormon under the guise of "new revelations" from a "living prophet" (which sometimes contradict a previous one: polygamy, racism etc.).OR how the the mormon church has to "change", spin, tweak, re-invent, its doctrines or "langgauge" in order to sound to spiritually, religiously or politically "correct".to the p;ublic.
dimtry19 2 years ago
you keep talking to yourself.

This guy is obviously very calm but VERY bitter.
BYU4U 3 years ago
Perhaps having an actual and current Mormon be a guest to talk about MORMONISM?! Common sense. If he was excommunicated then (1) there was a dang good reason for it (and he was given a fair chance to take control the situation) and (2) he wouldn't exactly have any motivation to give FAIR insight into the Church.
It will be interesting to hear what he did to merit excommunication.
BYU4U 3 years ago

Goes to show you that if you want to know anything - go to the source.
murfsneadee 3 years ago
The problem with that is that the source might not tell you the whole truth. It might not even tell you the truth at all. It might only tell you information in the way it wants you to perceive it. This is what the LDS Church does and I'm glad level-headed people like Lyndon Lamborn are around to make the Mormon Church accountable.
timonline2000 3 years ago
its only when man seem to think he knows more than God. and begins to act upon it that there is a problem and without repentance it leads into excommunication. Think about it if your a member of a club and you are talking against the other members of the club or teaching a different set of rules than the ones that club has set. Are you gonna want to stay in that club if you dont believe in it. No and the leader (Christ) probably doesnt want you there either. Kicking you out was a favor from him
marcopolo8765 3 years ago
..Well the one you need to excommunicate is Joseph Smith and ALL those who follow and promotes his false teachings...he THOUGHT he "knew more than God" distorting and perverting old testament narrative to justify immoraity (polygamy) and racism against blacks...GOD is delivering MANY mormons like lyndon from falsehood and into a true believivg christian church..they gladly wear their mormon excommunication as a BADGE of HONOR for the TRUE Jesus of the new testament..See MY favoites on youtube..

Ecclesiastes 9:5 states:
For the living know they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Knowing this how can a dead person receive 'baptism' into the mormon church? Either the Bible is 100 percent correct and mormon teaching is wrong or the Bible is false and mormon teaching is 100 percent correct. Which is it?

Do you know why Horny Joe was tarred and feathered? Do you know who tarred and feathered him?
He was tarred and feathered for making sexual advances towards Nancy Marinda Johnson. Nancys brother, Eli, was said to have led the mob.
Horny Joe's insatiable libido got him in a lot of trouble and eventually led to his death.
"he no guiles with any man"

"he faced persocution"
Yes, he faced prosecution for his crimes.

LDS author Todd Compton wrote, The motivation for this mobbing has been debated. Clark Bradenallegedthat Marindas brother Eli led a mob against Smith because the prophet had been too intimate with Marinda. This tradition suggests that Smith may have married Marinda at this early time, and some circumstantial factors support such a possibility...
fubecabr 2 years ago
"...The castration attempt might be taken as evidence that the mob felt that Joseph had committed a sexual impropriety; since the attempt is reported by [Marinda's brother who became LDS apostle] Luke Johnson, there is no good reason to doubt it.
Also, they had planned the operation in advance, as they brought along a doctor to perform it. The first revelations had been received in 1831, by historian Danel Bachmans dating." (In Sacred Loneliness, page 231).
fubecabr 2 years ago
so no one actually knows...we only have allegations. thanks!
squirrelhugger124152 2 years ago
We have circumstantial evidence. Nothing occurs in a vacuum. Horny Joe was not tarred and feathered because he was a humble servant of god. It's a bit more complicated than that.
fubecabr 2 years ago
Wasn't Joseph in Egypt accused of the same crime? He fled from Potiphar's wife. Circumstantial evidence alone doesn't win court cases. People's 'maybes' don't prove truth either. Still doesn't explain all the other times he was jailed and mobbed. Amazing that for a period of great religion conviction these people singled out one religion that actually had Christ's name in its title.
squirrelhugger124152 2 years ago
"Wasn't Joseph in Egypt accused of the same crime?"
Use circular reasoning much?
"Circumstantial evidence alone doesn't win court cases."
Sure it does. It even wins murder cases sometimes. Remember the Scott Peterson murder case? The guy who murdered his pregnent wife in CA? 24hr cable news wouldn't shut up about that case for two years.
"Still doesn't explain all the other times he was jailed and mobbed."
The last time he was jailed was for the destruction of the Nauvoo Expositor press.
fubecabr 2 years ago
the point is that there is no historical evidence, only hearsay that doesn't can't even be confirmed as evidence and that no one can confirm these claims and no one will. that's like saying 'my friend who knew that particular murderer said that he might have done it because...'
squirrelhugger124152 2 years ago
It's not hearsay at all. Luke Johnson, an asspostle, gave a first hand account. familysearch d o t org, an official cult website, confirms the adulterous relationship with Marinda.

What do you think?
sAME2U22 3 years ago
Then an honest question for Chirstians would be to ask why we do not know the why or what of Christ's 40 day post-resurrection ministry.
The very same kind of error claimed by our critics of Joseph Smith was the same error that Christ's critics claimed him of having, they would claim that a guy who spent all day hanging out with harlots and sinners wasn't on the right path. Then there's Moses, who's own brother and sister protested his second wife. If keeping things from the general
HiveRadical 3 years ago
The 1800 year difference is excuse enough re "Joseph Smith was the same error that Christ's critics claimed". Comparing JS to JC is bad enough but 180 years of history compared to 2000 years? You are grasping again, Hiver. Get real.
sAME2U22 3 years ago
I didn't ask for your opinion on the "consent" issue, nor do I care to question Xtians about anything. YOU wanted a poss. question for GD class. I gave you the Emma/consent/JS lying to everyone about his "spiritual wifery" question. Your opinion on it is irrelevant.
sAME2U22 3 years ago
congregation is something that is wrong then the length of the OT has issues with such.
HiveRadical 3 years ago
Emma gave JS consent? There you go with another unsupported claim. What IS clear is he did NOT have it. Emma kicking the ass of one of the wives down a flight of stairs shows she was all for it, huh? Right!!
sAME2U22 3 years ago
She did not reveal it, as was the requisite, such demonstrates her consent. Israel consented to the position of Moses when they followed him out of Egypt, that didn't mean they wouldn't fight him once they'd left. There's a difference between consent and steadfast adherence to previously given consent.

Even if you believe in the BoM and JS, that doesn't mean the current caretakes of the LDS church necessarily act in the name of God. For example, Doctrine & Covenants 121:37 says that those who exercise unrighteous dominion lose their power and authority.

nothing in there about asking questions. If your Bishop would say that then he was mistaken. Knock and it shall be open unto you. The problem comes when you predetermine the answer to your questions or when you allow your desire to either keep you from getting an answer OR send you to the wrong out.
HiveRadical 4 years ago
