I really couldn't agree more... it's incredibly powerful, quite possibly one of the most powerful songs I've ever listened to (Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver, too...)
Don't jump - just keep looking for your new voice. What you lost was the 'junior' version and there is bound to be more depth and harmonics to your adult voice.
You're clearly a dick, maybe you could call your band DICK or ARSE HOLE!!!
FYI the name comes from tv series whereby a character says that the word "elbow" is the most sensuous word in the English language because of how it feels to say it.
Interesting "badnews2008ad" , THUMB is a good choice :
Thumb: (Old English) The thumb is etymologically the 'swollen' part - an allusion to its greater thickness than the other fingers. . It can be traced to Indo-European tum- 'swell', which also produced English tumour, and tumult. The b in thumb appeared in the early Middle English period, when it was still a two syllable word (thumbe), and at first was pronounced, but it has fallen silent over the centuries.
Elbow: means etymologically 'arm bend'. It comes from Germanic alinobogan . This was a compound formed from alinã 'forearm' and bogan (source of English bow). alinã (source also of Old English ell - a measure of length equal to that of the forearm) itself goes back ultimately to an Indo-European base el-, ele- , elbow means tautologically 'bend bend'.
I never take notice of view counts. Britney's latest vid got 1 mil+ and counting. Does that mean she got a better tune... hell no! just a bigger marketing budget. I'd say apart from Mr J Cash, Rammstein and a few other tunes most of my most watched/favourite vids have less than 500,000 views.
He told me to listen to Elbow. I'm in the US, he went home to the UK, after his work here was done. I fell hard. Didn't mean/want to, especially knowing he would be leaving, forever. I tried not to cry during the ultimate "good-bye forever". But with tears, I turned away and heard him gently, slowly close the door. Never to see him again.
I listened to Fugitive Motel, and cried. It's OK though-I'll get his kiss sometime tomorrow, as it travels from the other side of the world. (I love/miss you)
GASP! you peeps marked my other comment as spam??!?! haha lol. well i'll be keeping an eye on elbow hoping and waiting to see any new stuff they put out. :)

well this song might be good with the rest of the songs on the album together but i find that this band just doesnt live up to it own grounds for divorce THAT was a really good and refreshing song however none of there other songs really have the freshness that that song had. the other songs are pretty much just going to be lost in a sea of compiled smooth rock CDs
It's funny, the first song of theirs I heard was from a movie trailer. 'Grounds for Divorce' And that hooked me, since then I've heard a few more of their songs and now must ask . . . do any other bands actually TRY compared to these guys? ;)
Absolutely my favourite song. Just wish they'd played it at Manchester Academy in April! Hopefully the guys can redeem themselves and perform it at the Manchester Apollo gig on October 23rd...?
love this song, its one of my favorite elbow tracks. not really sure where the video is coming from though. it just doesnt seem to fit with what (i think) the song is trying to say
Apparently Guy said that this song was inspired when they were touring the US and staying in a really terrible hotel in Austin, TX and they thought of all the people who had been in that hotel and how many had probably been lonely and miserable and died there, etc.
There have been many great bands from Manchester (uk) but these guys are simply the best...sure ya had the Stone Roses that changed the face of music in the uk, but apart from them, they are without dowt the best band in many many years from Manchester....or anywhere else for that matter
wowowow every1 less of the auguing!! elbow are amazing, guy garveys voice is incredibly hypnotic n thats my say on the matter!! if you dnt agree keep it to yourself!! personaly i dnt see the point in sayin summats shit just for the sake of it! who actually cares?! but if you like this i recomend you buy their albums n see them live beacause it is worth every penny!!!

I really like the Doves and by dicking around on the net I stumbled on Elbow. Just fucking amazing. It is ashame that cool bands like Doves and Elbow get ZERO air play on US radio.
I think i am really lucky to come from the city which produced these two bands you like. I have seen them live loads of times. If you like Elbow and Doves check out I am kloot and Badly drawn boy. Two more bands from Manchester.
The lead singer, Guy Garvey, has got himself a gig on BBC6music (available via DAB Radio, Internet and Cable TV). He seems like quite a nice bloke. I looked up this video to hear what his band sounded like. On this evidence, they are no Belle & Sebastian, but I think they're not half bad either (but then I like "Fake Plastic Trees" - so what do I know?)
coldplay is the houseband of the illuminati as far as i am concerned...they are like the smashing pumpkins once were, a mediocre band that the mainstream vaunts as the head of some type of musical movement that, if it actually existed, they never were the antecedents of or the significant influencers of anything but more flaccid bands
One of the most underated albums ever! It baffles me how something as perfect and beautiful as this can be overlooked.Radiohead throw together an album and everyone stands still.well in my opinion this one of the best albums in a very long time!
Love Elbow. Seen they many times. Awesome band that will never be huge. Most people do not get them. Such uplifting music, full of hope in what might appear on the surface to be miserable music. See them live.
i bought this album on the strength of one song i heard in a shop 'button and zips' when i got home i could'nt get into the rest of the album even though i played it about ten times - i left it for a month or so and played it again, the album and particularly this track came alive - this is my favorite song for a long time.
Same with me. It was actually this song I fell in love when I heard it on the radio. I then bought their album and couldn't really get into it, which I was disappointed about. Then one day I listened to it again and it was just...wow.
OMG!! I had the same feeling.. It's like soo weird cause everyone says that about elbow... idk but I can listen to another artist.. and get tierd of there songs easly... But it seems like I can listen to there songs forever.. and it freaks me out.. but it's like.. my meds.. or something when I think about how this world really is.
same here,i heard of lot of good reviews of their first album.i had only heard red by them and thought it was ok.i listened to the album and felt nothing.months later i decided to pick it up and listen to it again and it just hit me.you just fall in love with their music.
i love elbow so much, whenever i feel bad i just listen to them and troubles seem to melt away, seems kinda sad but guy garvey is a genius and a living legend
Very true. That was my original thought as the locations used do look more like Oz. Being an Aussie myself I was interested to find out if they would use Oz for their 'otherside of the world'. Brilliant band.
They are indeed geniuses and this videoclip is just perfect - as irreverant as the band themselves.
I think it may have been fimed in England. That ever authoritative source Wikipedia says that the two giant polystyrene models you see whizz past in the car were placed next to the M1 near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire but had to be taken down as people started to report alien sightings.
Musicians this good are best left undiscovered, otherwise they'd have to make up stuff for interviews with the NME and tell their kids that they miss them from a hotel in Norway and a few years on, they'd write a shit album and we'd all say they'd sold out.
nothing wrong with being underrated i prefer them this way.... if they were big they'd be like coldplay and be on heavy rotation on the radio and sell out and shit. fuck that. oh and switching off is one of the best songs i've ever heard...but yeah they shud be huge.but do we want them to be? thats the question.
I agree with your opinion concerning the greatness of "Signing Off". Elbow hopefully, will never be as big as Coldplay (As far as "mainstream" popularity is concerned)for the simple fact that their music appeals mainly to those who truly appreciate and can relate to their messages. If I were to compose an autobiographical film or documentary about my life thus far, I could use their music as a backdrop to accurately depict my emotions for many given situations.
I love Elbow, but doesnt the lead singer look like Johny Vegas?
Or is that just me?!

(The most obvious place would be in their country of origin, the UK, but just wondering if anyone knows this for sure.)

Sounds coherent. At least the cars are driving on the left side of the road. Could also be Australia.
