Jakob's his own man. I'd listen to this music even if his last name weren't "Dylan." It's probably hard to avoid comparisons, but if we must, I'd have to say that I like Jakob's voice better. One way in which he does resemble his Dad is that he knows how to fuse roots, rock, blues, and country and he's a masterful lyricist. And -- unlike his dad -- I'm glad he can carry on an interview and is quite engaging in public. He seems like a great guy and family man.
But none of these indicate he is "trying" to be like Bob Dylan. A hat is so general. The other stuff is unavoidable. his stance or physical gestures are inherent, and the guitar playing is more than likely learned. I would be more apt to say he's a musician who plays guitar/writes his own songs than Bob Dylan's son who is trying to "be just like him." Nothing personal, but I've always considered J. someone who tries to avoid the father comparisons by painstakingly trying to do his own thing.
@lalalives exactly we are all our fathers sons someone saying he is trying to be bob dyaln is stupid there is no trying involved you become your father at some point
How is he trying to be like Bob Dylan? I really don't see it. He plays guitar and writes his own songs...people have been doing that for YEARS before BD. I'm really tired of people constantly mentioning Bob in every Jakob Dylan video response. Is it that difficult to see him as his own artist? I love Bob, but I can really appreciate and love Jakob for what he does and the talent he possesses.

how? i could go on and on and on and on. i have studied bob dylan for years. here are a few ways: his hat, his stance, his finger picking style, flailing his arm in the air, touching his lips....trust me if you knew bob like i do you would understand. and dont get me wrong, it sounds good. hes just and incarnation of his father. the fist time i saw him, i knew he was bobs son without ever knowing of him before.
check out rebel sweetheart, bringing down the horse, and breach....jakob stands up and surpasses anyone in this world musically. i don't really care for this acoustic stuff myself either.
it bothers me on every jakob dylan video on youtube that they compare him to his father, though some of you are doing it unknowingly. he's not his father. he's himself. i'm sure he hears it enough from press and critics, he doesn't need to hear it from his fans.
Actually, it's truly amazing to realize how Jakob embodied the quintessence of his father. The grimace and mannerisms are absolutely identical. There's no way to deny.
There's one strange thing though which I can't get. In the "Evil..." Jacob plays with capo on the 5th fret (A). When I tried to reproduce it it sounds like G (capo on the 3rd). But the rest of songs matches fine. What is it? Did Jacob switched the guitars between the "Evil.." and the rest? For me the guitar looks the same...

At the same time the capo position at the rest of songs from this set and the tuning perfectly matches. What is it? Did Jacob switched guitars between? Doesn't look like...
Jakob himself has said he has 4 sons but, people say he has an 18 year old adopted daughter named Heather Dylan who's a musician in Pennsylvania. Is that true?

Jakob reminds me of Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen with his own Jakob twist...More than that blood line, that he is compared to.

i just see and listen to him for the first time.
good stuff, i like it!
man, it must be exhausting to be the son of such a legend like bob dylan, when you're trying to do your own musically thing.
