  • Has anyone considered implementing more home school programs via the internet? If one can obtain a college degree online, why shouldn't our highschool students and others have the same option for obtaining a diploma. Think of how much money would be saved with online classrooms. Fewer buses, less fuel, fewer vehicles on the road, fewer emmissions, etc, etc, etc.

It would take lots of effort but this seems like a "no brainer" to me.

  • @n2itiveone who's going to supervise the children who studies at home? Certainly not their parents as the parents have jobs...

  • lol! the new education sec said "...my sister and I" in a prepared speech. lol! i guess the new education sec isn't as capable as the rest of those people that obama surrounds himself with, well at least not in the "grammar dept" anyway. a student going to a chicago public school has a 6% chance of going to college. yeah, what a great pick. rofl! bahhaaaahaaaa!

  • What's wrong with his statement?

  • want to improve the education system. Get rid of public schools.

  • Public schools are not the problem. It's the FEDERAL CONTROL of public schools that ruins the system.

I do agree that private schools, home schools and small community schools are WAY better than the large public schools.

  • "I do agree that private schools, home schools and small community schools are WAY better than the large public schools."

My point exactly. People should work than go to public school. Atleast they would have a source of income which would help out the poor.

  • Obama is forming an amazing team with impeccable qualifications. He has also kept his word to lead in a bipartisan manner by appointing two Republicans to his cabinet.

    More change to come.

    Obama = 44th

  • Are you kidding?

    Rahm Emanuel = Pro-War

    Joe Biden = Pro-War

    Hillary Clinton = Pro-War

    Janet Napolitano = Pro-War

    Tom Vilsack = Monsanto Cronie

  • lid, I have no problems with any of those choices you mentioned. They will not be the President, Obama will.

Obama has consistently stated he would seek the council of those with differing views from his and would work in a bipartisan fashion. I applaud that open mindedness. We have been deprived of this type of cooperation for too long.

There were many times during the campaign I criticized his decisions. It turned out he's smarter than me and most, b/c it worked.

    He is keeping his word.

  • Well, I guess when your expectations are "anything is better than Bush", then everything looks great.

Too many people are giving Obama a free ride so far just because he isn't Bush or McCain.

    Every leader deserves scrutiny.

  • 1/3

lid, I never said "anything is better than Bush," b/c that's not true. A McCain/Palin ticket would have been much worst. No need to get into that, that disaster has been averted.

Free ride? Flag pins, birth cert, Wright, Pfleger, uppity, unelectable, inexperienced, sham, socialist, communist, Marxist, Muslim, typical, bitter, naive, un-American, terrorist fist jab, lipstick pig, pals around with terrorist, Ayers, "that one," black, etc. etc...

Obama never got a pass nor asked for one.

  • 2/3

lid, Obama has yet to take office or pass legislation, thus no results yet. Let's temper our disappointment until we have a reason to be.

Give the people a chance to prove you right or hopefully wrong.

Scrutiny? People are up in arms over certain cabinet picks, women groups complaining he didn't pick enough women, people are mad over Rev Warren, not enough Hispanic picks, Blago scandal, not enough progressives, etc, etc...

He's scrutinized as he should be.

    cont...

  • 3/3

You may one day recognize that he will be scrutinized more than any President in history. Why? Several reasons, here are a few:

=Bush. After him we're going to pay attn.

    =He's black. It's the USA.

=The state of the country. There is a lot to do, as we are going downhill fast.

Yes, we must all pay attention as well as do our part to repair the nation. We also have to be patient and realistic, there is no quick fix to what ails us. We can't second guess everything.

    Good day.

  • don't forget vilsack is pretty much a moron. he took office in iowa with a huge surplus and he ran the whole state deeply into the red. he's a moron and the people of iowa are certainly relieved to have him out of there. vilsack baaahaaaaahahahahahahahahaaaaaa! rofl!

  • I cannot find ANYTHING good about this Secretary of Education.

From 2002 to 2007, children under his watch scored 249 out of 500 in 2002, and scored 250 out of 500 in 2007. WOW, 1 point more after 7 years?

What a LOSER. This guys only credentials are that he lives in ILLINOIS.

  • Freedom, we could go back and forth presenting pros/cons of this pick. The decision remains. You have the right to voice your opposition.

I suspect Obama has his own reasons we are not privy to, which made him decide Duncan has what it takes. Time will tell.

Obama has a track record of surrounding himself with capable people. I trust his leadership. I do not expect miracles, but I do expect eventual results. It took a while to get us here, it will take a while to switch gears.

    Good day.

  • Freedom, did you listen to the video? You asked me to name "1 PRO," when Obama himself listed many.

I wasn't clear in my initial reply. This response will be clear:

To put it bluntly, I don't care about your opinion, which is why I never asked for it.

I repeat, Obama has a track record of surrounding himself with capable people. I trust his leadership. The decision remains.

Again, you have the right to voice your opposition. You can email the Obama team with a list of your issues.

  • WOW!!! another Chicago hack that balances out the cabinet between Clintonistas and hacks. Rahmbo of course is the bridge between these two elements. Duncan as Sec of Education - sure he headed up one of the truly failed school systems in this country but what the hell!!! Obama is in the White House we have to make certain he loses any re-election bid after his first term.

  • Ha!

Dodge school has really came up. I graduated from that school in 1990. Right on the west side of Chicago.

  • Oh wow, lookie here, Obama totally ignored the public concern about taint of corruption or at least cronyism from Chicago stigma associated with Blagojevich, Emanuel, Jarrett, etc, and has picked for Educ Sec the head of Chicago schools -- you know, the guy who recommended the first gay high school! Wonder if he'll bring in some of thos Ayers & Obama indoctrination...er.."reform" ideas, too.

  • Another good pick. It's time Americans learned to value education a lot more, not just for getting jobs but for also developing a better understanding of themselves, their society, the world, and this universe. The current small-town mentality arising from an endless diet of TV and fries needs to change.

  • You said that so well fellow human.

  • Poor guy said , "gave my sister and I." Ahne doesn't even use proper grammar.

  • That is unfortunately a very common mistake -- getting mixed up about "I" and "me"; so common that it is mentioned in many language books. No idea why it happens, though. Well, hopefully he will not be teaching English grammar. What really matters in his job is competence backed by attitude; wanting to do something good, and having the ability to do it.

  • I'd feel more comfortable if even the Chicago students could read. He has failed in Chicago, why put him in charge of the US?

  • imo Obama doesn't realize how much is expected of him. if he turns this nation around, he will be revered as a great leader that will change many things. if the nation stays it's course or gets worse, he will be regarded as a collosal failure for many years to come.

  • Chow: "..Obama doesn't realize how much is expected of him ...if the nation stays it's course or gets worse, he will be regarded as a collosal failure for many years to come."

Obama understands the tremendous challenges facing our nation because of Bush's poor leadership, he's said as much several times.

It has taken years to get our country in this mess and we have NOT hit rock bottom yet. It will take years to get us out. We must all be patient and do our individual part to work for change.

  • TWENTY TWO MINUTES?!! Got Cliff notes anyone? We're going to need 'em for the next 4 years.

  • just moved new area

want to chat with singles Lj

  • And you will lose. Again lol

  • obama is right. changing our cultural values to help younger people focus more on education.

  • he should've picked an Asian to diversify his staff. There's nothing wrong with capital punishment in the classroom!

  • crap

  • amazing

  • I agree.
