@NesBoy1985 He was at the top of his game for such a VERY BRIEF period of time. 1988, 1989, by 1990 at only 24 he was already started on a downward spiral. Never the same from that point on.
What the match would of been like with a prime Tyson, who can say? More exciting, certainly. But I won't guess as to whom the winner would of been. Tyson in his prime was scary and impressive as shit.
But Lewis has always been good. His two weaknesses as a boxer was that he was lazy, never doing more than needed, and that he wasn't spectacular. His approach was that boxing is a job, and he was good at his job, and that should be enough.
The Mike Tyson myth is so absurd. The mans competition in his "prime" years was embarrassing. Look at their records. He was DESTROYED by buster douglas.... it was not a lucky punch, but a long, painful beatdown. Buster Douglas was never been anyone where the class of Lewis. Mike then got koed by a blown up cruserweight in Holyfield. Lewis would have always beaten him.... and by the way the version of Lewis that beat Mike was also way past his prime at 38.
"Lewis cements his legacy of one of the best heavyweight champions of this era"
Maybe, but not with this fight, Tyson wasn't a good fighter at this point. His life was in shambles and he no longer wanted to be in the ring, he no longer had the fire in his heart. Lewis (at any age) vs. pre 90's Tyson, Lewis would have been no more than a lump of pulsating flesh on the canvas.
Its funny that they say the pride of Great Britain ,but he moved to Canada at the age of 6 and the truth is he was raised in Kitchener Ontario ,Canada and were he learned to box ...Fought for the gold for Canada and started his professional career and when he was at about 10 fights in ....moved back to Great Britain after he got big..His mother still lives in Kitchener....
And Lennox Lewis celebrates his victory over a washed up Tyson *rolls eyes*. Lewis was thinking one thing and one thing only "man I'm glad I avoided Tyson until now"
This was like a public execution. Tyson could have never, ever beaten Lewis and he admitted it. Sure, Tyson looked great against guys like Pinklon Thomas and Marvis Frazier. But every time he stepped up in class, he was destroyed by guys like Holyfield. Lewis was just in another class and is one of the all time greats at heavyweight.
my bad i always thought Tyson was older if i new it whould have cause all these comments i whouldint have said anything no diss it was just an opining
did i hear emmanual stewart say that lewis is the best heavyweight of all time........god damn i thought that he was smarter than that...yeah lewis is good, but the best of all time, jesus christ get the fuck outta here
@lynchd111 of course, tyson in 87-88 threw his punches in groups of 3 ,4 sometimes 5 compact combinations in 1 second.Judging from this 8th round, the 21 yr old tyson would have rapid fired combinations on lewis even after the beating this old washed up tyson was going thru, he still managed to get lewis in easy punching range but this tyson was 12 yrs past and incable anymore of combinations and in balance.Watch the thomas ko if tyson bashers forget how he would have finished lewis also.
well it's not even fair, lennox really should never even have been hit, tyson just doesnt have the arm length to coap, Tyson's boxing is better, lennox boxing is cheaper
2:56 "No doubt, the best heavyweight of all time. What he's done clearly puts him on top."? HAHAHAHA what he did? Wtf did he do? Beat up a washed up former champion? LMFAO.
'Tyson got pushed down' shutup look at the beating his taking, and if he just got pushed down why didnt he get up from it, cos lewis was destroying him
All fighters have big talk and of course Foreman is going to make statements like that. That's what boxers do but after seeing Tyson lose to Lewis, Foreman said Lewis was the greatest of all time.
Lewis was the no1 contender for the WBC belt before the Bruno/Tyson fight and wanted to fight the winner but Tyson chose to fight Seldon instead for the WBA title so the WBC wasn't on the line and was stripped immediately after Tyson stepped into the ring.
Bowe had his chance to fight Lewis and decided not to. Why should Lewis suddenly jump into a fight with Bowe over year later because he changes his mind especially after Lewis beat Bowe in the Olympics?
If Lennox had accepted the WBC's ruling of making Tyson the number one contender, he would have fought the winner of Tyson versus Bruno for the belt.
The Judge ordered that any future fight that Don King promoted would have to involve Lennox Lewis, meaning after the Bruno fight Tyson would have to fight Lennox Lewis if he wanted to keep the belt.
Tyson had already entered into a contract to fight Bruce Seldon before this court ruling. Seldon was WBA champ (unification fight) Lewis a bum
@wardenthelonerstoneAfter Lewis Turns Down $11 Million, Bowe Fight Won't Happen Until '94
July 21, 1993|From Associated Press
LONDON — Lennox Lewis, the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, has rejected a deal to fight Riddick Bowe for the undisputed title.
Bowe, the International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Assn. champion, said Lewis is a "pitiful disgrace to the manly art of boxing. . . . Lennox Lewis is a pompous, arrogant, phony British punk who is simply afraid to fight me."
Lewis said. Today's Tyson is no longer the Tyson of legend after being beaten twice by Evander Holyfield. And after the second Holyfield bout - a low point in sports history - things really went downhill.
Lewis said. "I understand that he still has a lot of fans out there, but they're fans that look at him when Tyson was Tyson. The Tyson of today is a different man."
Hasim Rahman - A fighter who didn't even take up boxing until the age of 20, making his pro debut at 22 in 1994 a guy with no punch resistance, not just been ko'd, but out of the ring in 1999 by Oleg Maskaev. Lennox got ko'd in 5
Hasim Rahman 2 - Lennox won in 4 in a 2001 rematch, so poor was Hasim Rahman that he didn't win another fight until a 2004 U/D "HBO Ballroom Boxing" match with 41yo Al Cole
when lewis grapples up on mike when mike gets in close, would it be illegal for mike to throw punches while they are grappling up because if not someone explain to me why mike wouldnt have just thrown a bunch of upper cuts
@Maper555 no its not illegal, but he didnt do that cus of 1- refery was always fast to say breake out or punch and out, 2- lenox is havy and used that to make tyson tiyerd, 3- tyson in 80s used to do what u say, but he wasnt that fast and good like his prime in this fight, sorry for my bad english
Evander Holyfield - Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90's-Early 90's prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998, Lennox Lewis realised this was the "perfect moment" to face Evander Holyfield
Razor Ruddock - a decent win in round 2. But this guy never held a title. Add to that the fact that Ruddock had already been knocked out by a bum with a glass jaw called David Jaco and later an HIV+ Tommy Morrison in 1995
Oliver McCall - Oliver was 29 years old and stopped Lennox easily in the 2nd round.
Tommy Morrison - Tommy was 25 years old, and and HIV+ so this is Lennox's best win?
The prime phrase is not just an "excuse". Tyson had already been active for over 15 years. How many boxers do you know that actually stuck around for that long, and still took a shot at serious fights. Most of them bounce after 10 if they were succesful and generous. It shows the fighter Tyson truly was. He even hinted it was about the payday. And if you look at his demeanor you see he wasnt lying. You think the serious Tyson would ever "respect" his opponents? Skip to his 90's fights...
bla bla bla tyson in his prime bla bla bla. Here is the truth they didn't fight when both were in their prime and Lewis goes down history as the victor. Case Closed.
@big5622 Wishful thinking. Would have been a closer fight, but same result. Tyson in his prime had no competition. He fought losers and was never tested.
@big5622 How does that even make sence, they both ain't in there prime here? of course he would win then, because lenox wouldn't be in his prime then would he?
Tyson was great at knocking out weaker opponents. He won his first title from Berbick who already had four losses as a professional. Tyson lost to Douglas who had 4 loses as a pro. You talk about his "Prime" What if he fought credible fighters in their prime like Bowe or Holyfield.
@big5622 in his prime tyson ducked lewis in 1996 when tyson was wbc champ and lewis no1 contender and mandatory tyson gave up his title and foguth holyfield instead cuz he knew lewis would kik his ass
que pelea mas boba , mike tayson no hizo ni una mierda ... no trato . no expulso todo su poder, su fuerza, no trato ni de caer rendido aun que sea del cansancio, solo se dejo golpear y golpear no lucho .
Very very nice .I especially liked the part where that American boxer got KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!HAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...........:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Tyson got his arse handed to him. You can't make excuses for him. Lewis couldn't have done a better job. And people don't realise that Lewis was a heavy heavy puncher...he was rated the 33rd greatest puncher of all time (tyson was rated 13th).
@ScrotyMcDickface I think the fight would have been explosive in the early 90's. Mike Tyson didn't have half the bobbing and weaving that he use to have. He showed no defense in this fight.
Many say this is a fight that should have taken place in the early 90's however, many fail to realise the politics of boxing and that Don King wanted Tyson to avoid Lewis and Holyfield. He knew that Lewis and Holyfield had both heart, stamina, power, class and most of all, the intelligence to beat Tyson.
Lewis just picked him off shot by shot, tyson took alot of shots from him,he was no match for lewis.Tyson looked afriad when he came out of his dressing room, lewis looked so confident!
I remember seeing this with my junior who was 11 at the time and for weeks leading up to this fight he was banging on a bout tyson saying he would batter lewis and i remember telling him tyson at any stage of his career would have got beaten by lewis . Lewis was a very skilled boxer . and he even won a gold medal at the olympics and beleive me in those days you didn't win gold at the olympics by being a push over i will tell you that
LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies
"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.
@MJFanatic96 you can never say that.We can only go off what happened on that day. No one in the worlds ever been a better jabber than Lewis so my moneys still on Lewis
Would of ended a long time ago if tyson was in his prime. Tyson could have got up from that knockout if he wanted i reckon, he just had enough, he had no heart for the sport at this point.
Thanks for putting this on - I haven't seen the American coverage before. Great Champion that he was, not sure what fight Foreman was calling until the end when he seems to finally realise Tyson was getting a spanking! I'm loving infedellkilla's optimism, but seriously,it wouldn't have mattered which version of Tyson Lennox faced, the class would have shown through. Tyson was an animal/warrior in his younger days ,but Lennox was one of the best ever IMHO.Hand speed for a heavyweight was awesome!
@infidelkilla 'prime tyson would kill lewis' . quote from a idiot right here.. Prime Tyson might have given this VERSION of lewis a fight and mind you this version of lennox that's raping tyson is a shittier slower weaker version of the real lennox lewis. PRIME LEWIS (go youtube golota-lewis or lewis-grant idiot) will fucking do the exact same thing to 'prime' tyson that old over the hill lewis is doing to old over the hill tyson in this fight. idiots talking as if this lewis is in prime ..
lol @ the top comment. Sure, Lennox pushed him to the ground, that's why Tyson never got up. It had nothing to do with the concrete shattering right thunderpunch Lennox threw a second earlier....
Holy shit there's a lot of morons commenting on this. That bitch got knocked the fuck out, plain and simple. Fucking fanboys trying to make excuses, pathetic. What happens out of the ring is irrelevant. Two boxers of around the same age stepped into that ring. Lewis dominated the whole fight despite the Refs obvious bias. Tyson got knocked the fuck out. Lewis did not push him down, Tyson fell into Lewis after he got KO'd so Lewis pushed him AWAY from him and then Tyson hit the deck.
Lewis defeated Tyson so dont start all this prime talk. Nobody cares. It was a 2002 fight which Lenox Lewis won and I think Lewis is a great boxer because he defeated 1 of the greatest.
at this point of his carreer tyson did not care if he would win or lose he just wanted a paycheck and he wanted to get back at the system for doggin him out he still the to me fuck lennox lewis
Lennox Lewis always said he couldn't retire until he faced Tyson in the ring. He did it in great style. Also great credit to Mike Tyson for being a real man
Oliver McCall 2 - At age 32, Oliver was addicted to crack cocaine and became an alcoholic, having been arrested twice in 1996 for posession of crack cocaine and under house arrest / drug rehabilitation since a Nashville hotel incident throwing a christmas tree while intoxicated. Just look at his weight: in his previous fight, he weighed 228, and for this rematch with Lennox he blew up to 237.
LMFAO!!!! So beating up on an old, fat, overweight, and HEAVILY sedated Mike Tyson who had spent 5 years in jail and has been abusing drugs for a decade, makes Lewis the best heavyweight ever? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA stupid ass commentator can go fuck himself in the ass. Stupid ass Lewis dick suckers too.
@49kdonggyu94 Lewis was older and a better fighter. He beat Holyfield twice if you don't count the judges, Mike had to resort to biting. Great fighter but just not as good as Lennox.
@LHB2311 dude you could tell he was out... he was respectful enough not to keep throwing punches at him when he knew he was done. He nudged him and walked away.
@MrCheesetoad yes it was a powerful punch, but it only did half the damage of getting him to the floor. are you having me on? a nudge? , both arms means push. he pushed him down. end of buddy
@georgesullivansparks fuck you you dont know nothing bout tyson, he is the best eva, and when you accomplish what mike tyson accomplished you have to right said something till then.....fuuuu-uuuck youuuu
Lewis had a style ripe for the explosive prime Tyson to KO, Lewis keeps his hands down, lazy style... young Tyson would have KO'd him in 3 rounds or less.
Ass kicking.... and for u "mike tyson in his prime bs" people. Tyson never beat a great fighter in their prime. Lewis was older than him here and Holyfield killed Tyson twice....and easy. Tyson beat tomato cans his whole life.
@aitraining nonsense, anybody should know Tyson was a head case, once his personal life broke down completely he lost it... the desire to even try to win. He is one fucked up dude, and I hope he actually has gotten his shit together and stays healthy mentally. He did go to fucking jail etc, he's a severely troubled individual. A younger Tyson would have made a fight of this, Lewis would never be able to fight so casually against a hungry young Mike Tyson.
@MIKESOWELL My bad. I always gave him Spinks, but very little else buddy. head to head, record, and common opponents - Evander comes out on top on all counts. The rest is speculation. "prime tyson" (hate that phrase) was 19 yrs old to 24. Some prime....
3:18 “The papers allege Tyson’s training’s not gone well, they reckon that when he’s not been sweating in the gym, he’s been sunning himself on the beach smoking marijuana”
@topbluffa Actually i agree and you made my point for me Lewis was the better fighter but if you remember the first thing Lewis said after reclaiming his title was i want Tyson anybody with any sense knew Tyson could not win and Lewis and Tyson knew it this fight wasnt about who was the best because we all knew that answer this fight was about the gate
lewis was in awsome shape for this one he knew Mike could not whip him he was really afrte that payday Mike was a shell of a fighter here and a bad shell at that
"no doubt the best heavy weight of all time"? Is that dick head serious?

People would rather give up their belts than face Lewis.
1992 - Bowe dumped the WBC title in a trash can and relinquish it.

Q+A: George Foreman
With the June 8 Mike Tyson-Lennox Lewis bout coming up, we grilled HBO boxing announcer George Foreman
By Richard Deitsch
SI: What's your pick for Tyson-Lewis?
Foreman: If Tyson comes in at 222 pounds or under, I give him the edge. I'll take him in a knockout. Three rounds.
SI: In your prime how quickly do you knock out Lewis?
Foreman: Two rounds.

Tyson was great at knocking out weaker opponents. He won his first title from Berbick who already had four losses as a professional. Tyson lost to Douglas who had 4 loses as a pro. You talk about his "Prime" What if he fought credible fighters in their prime like Bowe or Holyfield.
BigDumbJerk 3 weeks ago
@big5622 in his prime tyson ducked lewis in 1996 when tyson was wbc champ and lewis no1 contender and mandatory tyson gave up his title and foguth holyfield instead cuz he knew lewis would kik his ass

Tyson got his arse handed to him. You can't make excuses for him. Lewis couldn't have done a better job. And people don't realise that Lewis was a heavy heavy puncher...he was rated the 33rd greatest puncher of all time (tyson was rated 13th).
ScrotyMcDickface 2 months ago
@ScrotyMcDickface I think the fight would have been explosive in the early 90's. Mike Tyson didn't have half the bobbing and weaving that he use to have. He showed no defense in this fight.
oomzie500 1 month ago
wish i could have seen this fight 15 years before it actualley happend...i would have given the edge to tyson tho.....
p4pboxingftw 2 months ago
Many say this is a fight that should have taken place in the early 90's however, many fail to realise the politics of boxing and that Don King wanted Tyson to avoid Lewis and Holyfield. He knew that Lewis and Holyfield had both heart, stamina, power, class and most of all, the intelligence to beat Tyson.
Boxing as it is now proves the point.

LEWIS WARNED: THIS IS FOR REAL
Author: Dillon, John
Publication: The Mirror (London, England)
Date: Sep 25, 1998
LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies
"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 2 months ago
This is the OLD Tyson... no question at his prime he would have DESTROYED Lewis.

Would of ended a long time ago if tyson was in his prime. Tyson could have got up from that knockout if he wanted i reckon, he just had enough, he had no heart for the sport at this point.
SS101009 2 months ago

Give me a fucking break
FamousMovieScenes09 2 months ago
Holy shit there's a lot of morons commenting on this. That bitch got knocked the fuck out, plain and simple. Fucking fanboys trying to make excuses, pathetic. What happens out of the ring is irrelevant. Two boxers of around the same age stepped into that ring. Lewis dominated the whole fight despite the Refs obvious bias. Tyson got knocked the fuck out. Lewis did not push him down, Tyson fell into Lewis after he got KO'd so Lewis pushed him AWAY from him and then Tyson hit the deck.
SMatthias 2 months ago
Prime my ass, Lenox just came that night better nuff said.

Lewis defeated Tyson so dont start all this prime talk. Nobody cares. It was a 2002 fight which Lenox Lewis won and I think Lewis is a great boxer because he defeated 1 of the greatest.

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Oliver McCall 2 - At age 32, Oliver was addicted to crack cocaine and became an alcoholic, having been arrested twice in 1996 for posession of crack cocaine and under house arrest / drug rehabilitation since a Nashville hotel incident throwing a christmas tree while intoxicated. Just look at his weight: in his previous fight, he weighed 228, and for this rematch with Lennox he blew up to 237.
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 3 months ago
Mike''s compliments at the end were just so Lennox might give him another chance lol.
crowley0312 3 months ago
49kdonggyu94 3 months ago
@49kdonggyu94 Lewis was older and a better fighter. He beat Holyfield twice if you don't count the judges, Mike had to resort to biting. Great fighter but just not as good as Lennox.

jimmyhayers 3 months ago
Ass kicking.... and for u "mike tyson in his prime bs" people. Tyson never beat a great fighter in their prime. Lewis was older than him here and Holyfield killed Tyson twice....and easy. Tyson beat tomato cans his whole life.
aitraining 3 months ago
@aitraining nonsense, anybody should know Tyson was a head case, once his personal life broke down completely he lost it... the desire to even try to win. He is one fucked up dude, and I hope he actually has gotten his shit together and stays healthy mentally. He did go to fucking jail etc, he's a severely troubled individual. A younger Tyson would have made a fight of this, Lewis would never be able to fight so casually against a hungry young Mike Tyson.
XenoType008 3 months ago
@aitraining Maybe Spinks could be considered in his prime when Tyson beat him.
MIKESOWELL 3 months ago
@MIKESOWELL My bad. I always gave him Spinks, but very little else buddy. head to head, record, and common opponents - Evander comes out on top on all counts. The rest is speculation. "prime tyson" (hate that phrase) was 19 yrs old to 24. Some prime....

CURSE OF THE HEAVYWEIGHTS;
Garside, Kevin
Publication: The Mirror (London, England)
Date: Jul 4, 1998
Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when he dismissed Trevor Berbick, another victim of drugs.
He consumed booze and birds with such relish that Tyson's life was in tatters within four years of his world title success.
Buster Douglas took advantage of his decline, inflicting a defeat that was simply waiting to happen.
