  • Need for speed ! Awwww yea

  • i heard this on pinbike today and i thought it was the black keys for a sec

  • This song rocks and I'd love to be one of the drummers.

  • In reality his two drummers are the coolest white guys in the world, they just look lame in comparison to Gary

  • damn thats good

  • @tele757 and id honestly love to hear your band, send me some tracks to my youtube inbox

  • @tele757 i agree that all the musicians you named are phenomenal musicians, there is no arguing that...people call them legends for a reason, all im saying is looking too far into the music takes away from the natural magic music casts. music isnt made soley to impress people, its made to enchant, entertain, inspire, invoke emotion, make people dance. there is so much more to music then complexity. i have no doubt you are a good musician but your attitude toward music is all wrong

  • @jroknbok92 i am with you. But all these feeling that get invoked are reactions to musical devices that engage the listener on a aural psychological level. It could be melody, it could be the the muscularity of the riff.. Someone can play the same exact riff, and the more talented player will be able to communicate it better by the technique he has it playing it.

  • @jroknbok92 What I am saying has applications to playing the blues because its always a rehash of the same format, pretty much. Now if you take this song by Gary there is no musicality or definition on the note choices consistently that I notice as far as tension and release for me I am just saying that Clapton whose lead lines are more imaginative have more creative vision and restraint undoubtedly would and do draw more people in.Rock is supposed inform and impress, iwant supermen

  • @jroknbok92 i love Cat Stevens, U2, ,CSNY, Fleetwood Mac. Because better musicians means more tasty , deep material. I belive the more raw talent and artistic vision a rock musician has and on their instrument-translates to more sophisticated enduring ,and more appreciative fans material. These artist has longevity , and can adapt and play with other cats. Sure, men always love woman, and some like plain janes and swear by them--but why fill the club with average looking woman

  • @jroknbok92 the approach is simple, form bands around top level songwriters, and instrumentalists and everything falls into place, Bands that form as friends are statistically hit and mios,, because the players are not pre-qualified on talent. Then you have 15 Different cold Plays..

  • @jroknbok92 Anyone can write a good song then and again, but arranging a song so it is like a symphony like Zep did is not in the grasp of todays bands, Why? Page purposely went out of his wqay to recruit thew best bandmates in the land. Its not that the listener or critic is looking to far. I am looking because I think natural magic is missing., That is the premise of it all

  • @tele75 and if wanna talk about unoriginal riffs lets talk about SRV, by far one of my fav guitarists and the best around but a lot of his stuff was ripped from his teacher Albert King, just listen to the "In Sessions" album that came out a few months ago where they play together

  • @jroknbok92 yes we know that all these licks and all rock has been done already before. all someone can do is re-invent it and keep the bar up high. There are so many mire gifted blues players that should be at crossroads who could trailblaze.

SRV "had it" he had the intensity and the blues technique that he was born with to pull off those licks, nod to his heroes but own it. Players you may see in mainstream like Gary and MAyer are not good examples of this, objectively speaking,

  • @tele75 i said i wasnt a great musician i actually do play guitar ive grown up on rock ive been goin to blues festivals since i was 10 years old ive read almost every autobiography by rock star out there and im a DJ on college radio with a classic rock show, aside from that i take classes on pop culture history btw casual listeners are the greatest thing music can have because they enjoy music for what it is, pretentious musicians who think they know everything about music ruin music

  • @jroknbok92 this is not about arroganc eor pretentiousness, its about hearing mediocre playing. As a gifted guitarist who can play over 500 classic rock solos where I can play the lead parts with the same feel, and can do this on bass also--I know intimately what constitutes a average guitarist versus a 2% best guitarist versus a 2% guitarist that 2% guitarists refer to ads the best 2%. It has alot to do with right hand dynamic and feel, the touch and not so much the fretting hand.

  • @jroknbok92 also, none of these players like Mayer or Gary have any sort of vibrato on bends. That is the hallmark of a true seasoned player as well. Being able to play like Neil Young would be more interesting and not many can. Tim Bluhm from the mother hips plays unconventionally but is creative like Neil Young. Gary is juts a cool looking black guy with some mojo, but these guys are a dime a dozen. Chris Robinson and Ben Harper have tones more mojo and are better musicians,

  • @jroknbok92 hey man some people think glee is music, Some people think TBK is as good as Led Zeppelin. These are egoic opinions. I am using my ears and the seeing the physics of how these guys hit the strings and whats beneath there fingers., It is a physical science hittin gthe strings, when you break it down. Pete townshend moves air, so does SRV when he plays and the pick attack -players today dont' they just gop thru the motions.Compare Floyd solo to youtube amateurs, hear diff

  • @jroknbok92 I did not mean to offend anyone, just the rock fans have nit seen a messiah in some time, because the industry is all but finished and they do not scout on basis of talent alone. There are no more rock scenes like there is in jazz, and the great players exist but they gave up, and the labels cannot readily find them-they are not in groups. The ownus is on these labels to get off their ass and find and develop talent like they did in the 60's-to early 80's.

  • @jroknbok92 Thanks for taking the time. I definitely am being vocal since i am anonymous here. I have a band that I have arranged and produced, and is pro level as far as the playing and mix where we are getting some interest over. I would love for you to take a listen, maybe play it on your program, Can I email you. Thanks.

  • @jroknbok92 i agree that there are alot of knob heads out there, I am not of that ilk. I am somebody who has seen alot of top level guys (where the level of playing is up there with the greats get passed by because of the industry and the desire to sell a product devoid of the most important factor , high musicianship. We are not talking about indie music here, I am talking Yes, Rush, Crowes,The thing is anyone who is going to critique something is fodder for all sorts of comebacks.

  • @jroknbok92 listen to the lead parts for Heart, Kansas, Lynrd Skynrd, Eagles. Even the band that were not power blues trios could play with a finesse not found anymore.

Listen to the lead so in "Its a mistake from Men at Work Its time to take back rock, will you help me. You are in a position as a DJ. The band I have produced is earnest, real and has the character of Steely Dan, Carol King Tapestry album, Beatles, and melody of the singer has a very charismatic voice, fans

  • @tele75 eric clapton hand picks everybody that plays at crossroads, he picks his favorite guitarist that are out there ERIC CLAPTON'S FAVORITE GUITARIST...im not a great musician but im pretty sure clapton doesnt screw around when finding these artists

  • @jroknbok92 whatever m use your ears man, Again, you are shaping outccomed to fit your perception. But you are not being objective. I suppose as a non-guitarist, causal listener you casnnot decipher between those who have the touch and raw high level talent like Clapton, SRV, even Ben Harper, Robert Randolph. Derek Trucks. I know more about rock than you my friend, its in my DNA -so don't even go there

  • yea, i am envious that this guy is not really good,, and I am awesome. However, I do pretty well within the industry, and am a pro level real deal rock musician- but not like this.

The thing is nobody ius forcing you ti write me, or read my comments.

After taking the time to listen once -I determined he is a dime a dozen.

He does not come close to me, my musical peers : Beck, Page, Hendrix, Howe, Zappa. Then again, anyone who plays at this level, or rock aficionado will tell you this too,

  • @tele757 Did you Play at Crossroads?

  • @bradstivers all the hey day rockers have to supporet the young guns, it has nothing to do with degree of talent. Vaugnh knew this guy and he was in his circle, it helps that he is young black and plays guitar instead of rap, and has a believable visceral presence. but the playing is not there man, I know because I do play nationally and have been produced by Alan Parsons.

  • @bradstivers he does not have great technique so his blues licks are just going thru the motions of all shit that alot of players do better . But you don;t think so, so dont bother glomming onto me.

  • @bradstivers he has emotion this is why I liked City Lights..but it is a one dimensional tune that any musicians who plays this type of music would just start playing because it takes nothing but emotion. Guess what US players all have this emotion (his is a cool black dude w/shades). But what separates the Claptons and Zappas is a fundamental physics of technique to pull of and reinvent the licks man, he simply was not born with that as a guitarist.

  • @bradstivers I am not being arrogant , what do I friggin care i am anonymous on the internet so I could not possibly and logically be here for a ego stroked. The ownus is on you to find out how good this cat really is with a wealth of better more trailblazing guitar vplaying by even guys like Steve WIndwood on guitar. Most if the musicians you see today are no where near the level of the older cats.

  • @tele757 I hope you play guitar better than you write and type.

  • hip Shake of Exile on Mainstreet played by white boys is more authentic

  • nothing he does is new, or different, the licks are easy, and have been done, nothing drop jaw. It sounds like not as good Ben Harper. Its neither here or there, meh as far as all the rock and blues before him, and on any given night there are millions of grtrst dthat can do this sort of thing better that have been passed by

  • @tele757 a bit of envy here,... seems all you do is watch Gary Clark Jr. vids and slam him in the comments section. No one's forcing you to listen to him,... but for whatever reason, you seem to listen to him quite a bit.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank God there's more black folk playing the blues. THANK GOD AND I'M WHITE AS FUCK AND I DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN GOD.

  • Who's the drummer, anyone know?

  • PS: He is a bloody vampire, look at his canines :O

  • Damnit I wish I that that voice.

While I can practice the guitar, I must contend in writing for someone else sing, my voice just wasn't made for singing. I'll never be as free as him.

At least I can paint though to release myself.

  • Thanks to Eric Clapton for showing us this guys talent...a Gary Clark Jr fan...loving the Cherry Epiphone Casino

  • two letters, O......G.

  • Where can I get that guitar?

  • this skill could best the hendrix

  • His style is so similar to Serbian old school rock and roll band "Partibrejkers".

See Partibrejkers songs "Hocu da znam" and "Kreni prema meni".

  • White people, I speak on behalf of all of us: let's stop trying, we'll never be as cool as black guys.

  • @theatlantisrise fuck that music isn't color one day i'll be up there.. white as fuck

  • @theatlantisrise tell that to James Dean, cool as hell

  • @theatlantisrise LOL!! That's funny!! :O)

  • @theatlantisrise That's where you're wrong. Gary Cropper was publicly admired by hendrix, and he learned from him. Same the other way round. Only fools think music has anything to do with colour, and not culture.

  • @theatlantisrise damn, I meant steve cropper.

  • @theatlantisrise Ever heard of Stevie Ray Vaughn or John Meyer?

  • @jgraves58 John Mayer can play but he's a total douchebag, SRV may have been able to play but he was by no means hip. I was making a joke, I'm not saying all black guys can play guitar or all white guys aren't cool. Just a joke sir. Just a joke. And, actually, my favorite guitarist, who I think is possibly the most laid back dude on Earth, is Derek Trucks, who is white. And if you've never heard of Derek Trucks, I dare you to check him out and still worship SRV and Mayer.

  • @theatlantisrise I like Trucks as well. There's too many soulful guitarist to start naming them, I just don't think Gary Clark Jr. measures up to them.

  • @jgraves58 GCJ is the complete package. He's not expanding the boundaries of music or making you trip balls, he's just an incredible old-school blues guy with a new-school vibe. That voice flows like honey, but that guitar churns out something more like cottage cheese haha. His songs are brilliant, and he really knows how to sing blues standards. Trucks, to me, is the greatest of all-time, but GCJ is just another legend in the making.

  • @theatlantisrise Every conversation about blues forgets the number one ingredient to being a great blues Artist, you must be a great singer.there were no electric guitars when this music originated,Listen to the great charlie Patton,Wolf, their voices were spiritual, listen to Albert,Freddie,BB.Buddy Guy.John lee Hooker,T-bone walker,I can go on forever,my point is blues.actually most all music is based on vocals,Gary Clark's vocals are as great as anyone's but maybe Wolf's.

  • @theatlantisrise Not even if l wear my pants on my ass or harrass white women or set the city on fire cause my team lost or vote for the black guy or lie like fuck on my taxes or hang out under the sreet lamp all fucking day or do some drugs or rap or be a 3 time felon or have 8 kids or smell like smoked sausage and suntan oil or lick my lips and clap my hands when l'm talking...?

  • @joe1969812 I didn't say we'll never be as cool as hip-hop culture. Fuck hip-hop culture, it has been twisted to be a misogynistic, homophobic, racist institution that fetishizes stupidity. I'm talking about real black guys.

  • @theatlantisrise I've only seen one cool black guy and that was Jimi Hendrix. l certainly dont try to act black, lm proud to be white. I guess that makes me a racist but l dont give a fuck.

  • sounds like the black keys?!

  • @TheHappyhappybob you must be under 20

  • here in Brazil this guitar costs 1200 dollars :)

  • His voice and music remind me so much of The Black Keys. Its almost creepy how alike they sound sometimes

  • @ILoveDudu89 tbk are such an average to bad band. You should say this sounds like a blues shuffle

  • @tele757 The Black Keys are not an average band, they're on of my favorites.

  • Oh and... Mirrored aviators will be making a big comeback now, too...Gary makes everything fuckin' cool!

  • Remember Jarassic Park? I think Hendrix,Freddy King, and Vernon Reid had their DNA stolen to make "JR"

  • I love his bassist's guitar :3

  • The only thing i don't like is that this sounds more like rock...but it's still Blues,so i can't hate it either, glad there are young singers keeping this great music alive.

  • Need For Speed: The Run all the way :D

  • How come this song is not on my "Crossroads" DVD?..it's not right :-(

  • I didn't know Chuck Berry had a son?

  • @OneAndOnlyMrWest Chuck Berry probably didnt know either

  • Holy mother of god, this guy and Joe Bonamassa have sucessfully restored my faith in music

  • Coolest man on the planet bar none.

  • Holy

    Fucking

    Shit

  • One drummer looks like Dave Grohl's brother and the other looks like an extra from The Office. More importantly, both of 'em kill it.

    Gary's the man.

  • 01:45 "What the f*** is all this racket....oh.. I understand now."

  • wwwgreatbuyoutletscom wwwtopfuelsavercom Look at the night. You see what a dark night, what clouds, what a wind has risen. but now 'the dagger in the heart'! That's how women are."Taking off his boots, he lay down on the hard, narrow, leathern sofa, which he had long used as a bed, bringing nothing but a pillow. But before going to bed, he fell on his knees and prayed a long time. In his fervent prayer he did not beseech God to lighten his darkness but only thirsted for the joyous emotion,

  • 7 people wouldn't know great music if it walked up, kicked them in the sack, gave them an hour to recover & then screamed in their face, "I AM GREAT MUSIC!"

  • I saw him a week ago, in person, eating a cheese burger. He was nice enough to take a picture with me and I wish I would have bought him a beer. It pays to live in Austin, TX!

  • We need more modern bluesmen like him

  • On a side note, why are there 2 drummers?

  • What a fuzzy groove, bloody hell.

    This guy ain't no human.

  • Just saw Gary at ramshead on stag ,Annapolis Md. thanks to WRNR radio 103.1 fm . private artist showcase .Everyone keep your ears out for Gary Clark Jr. truly amazing

  • Do you think the camera guy asked him to wear the mirrored sunglasses? Those shots of the crowd in his eyes are effing awesome!

  • I love it!!!! Makes me feel like a crappy guitarist, but I'm still pretty newb at it. More inspiration is exactly what I need. Play hard Gary!

  • Gary Clark Jr. @ 2012 NOLA Jazzfest! Its on!

  • This guy is something special, he's going to be huge in the near future.

  • @Shimmy2234 Hell...he's huge now!! People just don't know it. I'd say this crowd is spreading the word...lol

  • Love how you can see the crowd on his sunglasses.

  • @Gabagabe1 The crowd and sky combo is amazing.

  • This man is a soul, hes got a body!

  • This young fella's got an old soul...

  • Stock on Epiphone just went waaaaay up....

  • @Prestostark I think he must've changed the pickups on it right?

  • @mrnose55q Somehow, I don't think it would matter.

  • @mrnose55q those are stock pick ups in a korean made epiphone

he said in an interview that he thinks the guitars are perfect for him stock, both the elitist and korean models

  • @Prestostark Perhaps this will convince Epiphone to start making decent quality Casinos rather than the dogshit they come out with now. I had a cherry one, beautiful to look at, a complete nightmare to play! Warped neck, dodgy electrics, rubbish pickups....such a shame.

  • @75Stylist We can only hope.

  • @75Stylist Check out the Elitist Casino's,... made in Japan in the Terada factory (same place that makes all the high end Gretches) with American electrics and P90's. You can pick one up at Sweetwater for $1800.

  • @clanky44 I am aware of and have played the Elitist Casinos and the are considerably better than the stock Casinos. However, what I object to is having to pay an extra £800 for a guitar that isn't plagued with substandard electrics and poor workmanship.

The larger guitar companies seem to have guitarists brainwashed into thinking that it's normal and acceptable for someone spending £400 on a guitar to receive an instrument with numerous faults and substandard parts. Insanity!

  • @75Stylist In complete agreement with you,... and that's why I ended up with the Elitist. I was tired of seeing made in China Sheratons and Casinos with shoddy workmanship being pawned off for $800 to $900,... for that kind of cash, I expect a quality git... In that price range, check out the made in Korea Gretsch 5120/5122 line.

  • @75Stylist i have the same cherry Korean made, and Graham Nash signed my pickguard and it pisses me of to see some dude not as good as me playing my axe. One thing is true, the tail piece and the neck are not for heavy bending with the Casino. But great tones from p90 w/ som,e fuzz

  • @tele757 its not the tail piece that limits playability, its just the neck is a rubber band and cannot handle the tension. Look at mine, I will upload the picture. Graham Nash signed mine at a afterparty

  • @tele757

Where the fuck is your record deal asshole Gary Clark is on stage playing before major auidences and you are on You Tube bitching about "just being a cool Black Dude". Let's see your guitar playing on You Tube and STFU.

  • I GAVE HIM THE GUITAR SWEAR TO JESUS

  • Let's get this guy on the same bill as The Black Keys.

  • Ooooh Yeah!

  • 2:16 fingerprint on the sunglasses

    FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • @airman100matt

I've already played Gibson SG'S with Marshalls and that didn't sound as great as an Epiphone G400 plugged into a cheap Fender amp. So your argument is not valid.

  • That's the shit right there. There's still hope for rockin blues! Thanks, Gary!

  • you are bad toooo the bone baby!

  • thx need for speed The Run

  • the dude on drums looks soooo much like Dave Grohl

  • Gotta love the dual drummers!

  • i was there!!!! this guy smokes!!!!

  • DAMMMN ! U ROCK DUDE ! <3

  • Comment removed

  • Mr. Clark, my friend I saw you on a tv station not more than 30 seconds and I was hooked. Sweet blues with a crisp Hendrix,. You struck that blue cord in my soul, my heart, and got my feet to runnin to write you name down fast.

You are a breathe of fresh air with that full of soul, passion, crispy but still sweetly jammin style got this seasoned body to start jammin, tappin feet, got me to dancing w/ a happy smile. Its Thanksgiving and you provided me that sweetness jammin instead of eating <3

  • Old Skool Blues is back baby!! rock on...

  • Man, for being so good he needs a Gibson. Epiphones are the cheap Gibson's.

  • @airman100matt false. some epiphones cost upwards of $3000. and plus if he's making good music, who cares what kind of guitar he plays?

  • This is balls out real music!

  • Imagine : you're driving on a highway at 160 Mph with this ....

You can : Need For Speed The Run, level 2

    top

  • This dude is a stepped up atom bomb version of Junior Kimbrough~Killer grooves!!!

  • cool song, sounds a bit like chili cold blood.

  • badass

  • suck on this lil wayne

  • He only has 127,000 views and 795 likes, I'm going to change that...fricking rad!!!!!

  • That was some real sweet music!

  • my buddy lucas brought me here.

  • @jaysonlemoine but this guys fucking good.

  • It pisses me off when people read a clever comment and go to another video and post the same comment... anyway, great music!

  • his playing reminds me alot of magic sam, anyone else or is that just me?

  • @spazdal1 dude, i was about to write the same thing...!

  • Grohl...?

  • @PetePlaysBass No, not Grohl. Gary was playing with Doyle Bramhall II's band, so it'll be one of his drummers. One of them is usually JJ Johnson, not sure who the 'Grohl' looking guy is.

  • This song sounds like "I just wanna make love to you" by Foghat
