This is great. This is the version my 6-year old is modeling his version after. We listen to this constantly. Also the original Bob Wills version, too!
it's not exactly a Bob Wills standard though :). it was composed for the piano in 1856 by a Polish lady called Tekla Badarzewska, who btw has a crater on Venus named after her.
FACT: Hicks drags hairs on guts smooth as greasy ice. most practicitioners will have to switch gears once in a while and most eventually incorporate the backstroke into some special lick implicating emotive nuance. Hicks just glides along on automatic lettin the good times roll. thx
Don't do that! There's something to be learned here. I've been playing this tune for thirty plus years and after a good listen to Bobby, I'm doing a much better job on it! Thank you sir!
Bobby is one the Masters of the Double Stop styling originated by Dale Potter.....There may be flashier players out there today but most don't have the "feeling" in their playing and an unmistakable tone that takes on almost a lyrical quality and personality of its own......
bobby is so awesome on the bluegrass band albums as well as all the skaggs stuff. Smooth as butter and always plays the perfect part that seems to belong to the song. Damn, it's just not fair,Lord!
people just don't fully understand the scope of this man's playing. I listened to him play for 2 days straight and I never heard him mess up or play out of tune. Everything he plays is pretty complex. A lot of 2nd position stuff. HE's my HERO!
Thanks Bobby for the fiddle lessons you gave me 35 years ago in Las Vegas, this was the first song you taught me and I still enjoy playing it. I will never forget your willingness to teach a long haired hippie some real country blues. RS
39 years ago I played the Golden Nugget for the first time and Bobby was out there working for Judy Lynn. He came back stage -- actually upstairs above the stage - and showed me some things. I never turned into much of a fiddle player but I was sure better after that day than I was before. I have always been grateful for his kindness and willingness to share his knowledge. I've never heard him play a bad note.
Bobby Hicks is simply wonderful!! He may be the best musician in the world! I know that his playing just makes me feel wonderful. He is a true blessing!!!
Bobby's version has become the yardstick by which all others are measured!
