Well, really - what kind of spy agency _wouldn't_ want to direct and misdirect the media. Certainly it makes the job assigning of plausible deniability, loop exclusion and brief absenteeism so much easier. I wouldn't trust a spy agency that didn't make it a priority. Of course, if they put more effort into disinformation of the public han they do into acquiring and vetting reliable field intelligence they might not be trustworthy, even in the spyish sense of the word.

Operation Mockingbird is very real. I have seen it from both sides for almost 20 years now. Tens of thousands of users on this site have multiple usernames and accounts and work several hours a day on creating a spin for things that are contrived or ficticious. Mockingbird succeeded in crushing independent media in every form except the internet. Infomercials and staged events are recorded daily and sent to news outlets who broadcast them as facts. The only way to stop it is to turn it off.
