  • I heard all about this a year or two ago. And it is a great idea. You should all have noticed how little rubbish each house had and that it was all sorted into recycle units. Plastic paper etc. Each donkey needs a paid handler and still it is cheaper. I have donkeys and they would love the job of getting out and around ever day.

  • i find this wrong, I'm sorry but if we don't like smelling garbage all day then why should they? i know my garbage can smell reallllly bad, imagine 10 or 20 of them.

  • The donkey has to eat and has to be cared for, both which use energy. Donkeys also carry less, so one either must make more trips or acquire more donkeys. In the long term, a trash truck would be more energy efficient. These kind of green solutions have more to do with embracing primitivism than devising something sensible.

  • A chief cause of this innovation is that the Mafia control the trucks, often looting the entire garbage collection budget, leaving the community drowning in its own garbage. The donkeys are cheaper to buy and run than trucks and can get in to the small streets more quietly and cleanly. Other towns in other countries are looking at this, too. As the oil runs out, it might all be wise to reconsider the value of muscle power in the modern world.

  • going "green''!? this is animal cruelty.

  • Its about as cruel as me wearing a pair of socks.

  • No it's not. Socks are light but these bunch of rubbish is HEAVY. You choose to wear socks they are FORCED to carry rubbish. This is animal abuse.

  • Dude there adapted to this, so yeah, it would be like being forced to wear socks.

  • Donkeys have been used to carry heavy loads since forever, this is about as unusual and "abusive" to them as it is for a pair of draft horses to be used pulling a plow.

  • If they really want to make a difference take the bus instead of car. Poor donkey, I'm sure it's hard on their back, not to mention the smell. :(

  • As long as the donkeys aren't over worked, it's a genius idea! ;D

  • That's such a good idea :D

  • Well it probably doesn't smell all that bad for them.

  • hmm...i guess it's greener and cheaper but i feel sorry for the donkey's carrying all that rubbish :(

  • @Twime777 Beats being turned into dog food. :P

  • haha good point XD

  • @Twime777 Donkeys are even studier than horses, because they are genetically engineered to pull a lot of weight, so they're not hurting in any way. Besides, donkeys actually like to feel useful and help out (when they feel like it, of course!) :-)
