  • We watched Cinderella Man in history. The bell rang just as the final punches were being thrown in their portrayal of this fight; we didn't see the end. I came here to watch how it ended.

  • @Rotavator06 same here

    just finished it today

  • JAMES J. BRADDOCK THE BEST BOXER! CINDERELLA MAN!

  • hell, they look tired.......

  • the bulldog dominated all the round i guess :)

  • two awfull boxers, and so skinny back then.

  • an old irish fighter still fighting true...give that jew boy a lesson in boxing

  • I want their shoes.

  • James Walter Braddock - Pride of the Irish!

  • Thanks for the video

  • Braddock was one tough dude

  • I thought the movie was absolutely fantastic it is one of my all time favorites. I have done a lot of research on Jimmy including reading his personal biography on a website run by his own sons. The movie was extremely accurate and did not tarnish this mans reputation as a boxer or a man. The reason you look at this fight and think "Oh jee golly they really suck their punches have no pop!" was because this was boxing in the 1930's! It was a completely different sport.

  • One of the strangest title fights in history. Braddock didn't really win, Baer lost. His mind didn't seem to be on the fight. He rarely head hunted and looked like he was in a exhibition fight, playing to the crowd. He did that in all his fights to a degree; but those fights included savage flurries (compare the Joe Louis fight). Here he did nothing, almost as if he wanted to lose. Braddock definitely did not look of championship caliber; his punches had no snap, except a combination in first rd

  • @Richard40171

True, it would seem that way from this one particular video that Jim doesn't look like championship caliber at all (lot of people back then thought the same). Still, he had to get past Joe Louis and Art Lasky to get to Baer, in the first place. No easy task. I also read somewhere that Baer was never really the same fighter after he accidentally killed Campbell in the ring, which probably explains why he's pulling punches against an underdog like Braddock.

  • @undrentide79 I've course I knew of Braddock since childhood when my father followed the fights and I saw clips of this fight but I never really sat down and studied it. With the nickname "Cinderella Man" one naturally assumed B touched gold but this fight shows nothing of the sort. He wasn't the Cinderella Man, Baer was he Pumpkin. BTW B. fought Louis AFTER this fight and was soundly beaten tho he looked better fighting L than Max. And Lasky was downhill when he fought Jim. BTW, totally agree

  • @undrentide79 2/2 (cont'd) about Campbell; space discouraged me from saying so. But it's more complicated I think since B did get savage even AFTER C's death. This sounds strange but there was ALMOST a sentimentality about B in this fight, as if he WANTED Br to win, perhaps to calm his nightmares over C? Again, this sounds like drugstore psych, but as if to say, "Lord, if I give up an IMPORTANT fight will that be enough to atone for C's death"? Br was easy pickings but B did nothing.

  • you can't tell who's who. It looks like two people swinging their arms around. Pretty frustrating

  • @ahobi

Baer is the one with the Star of David. 5 seconds on wikipedia would let you know he was Jewish. 10 seconds would let you know his mother was Jewish and his father Italian.

  • Cinderella Man is beast and Russell Crowe did a great job.

  • Saw the movie today, loved it, the actors did a good job copying the moves and behavior.Did Bear really kill 2 people ?

  • 8 people didn't watch Cinderella Man

  • just watched cinderella man today for the first time and loved it!

  • Braddock was a great fighter, but Louis beat him pretty good. Either way, Baer looked awful in this fight. Crazy when you watch his battles at light heavy where he would toy with people.

  • @HeavyD2544 thats true but remember james was old that doesnt help if he was younger it would have been a better fight maybe i dont know ..

  • @sirbozz Yeah, but he was better after his comeback. He would have been too small, as his early career was at light heavy. Nothing would have won him a fight against a bigger, faster, stronger, more technically sound opponent. Joe was just better all round despite any age difference.

  • @HeavyD2544 yeah thats thats true oi

  • Jim Braddock was a credit to his profession and had one hell of a life story.I also like his manager, Joe gould. A great era for true boxing fans.

  • Jim Braddock wasn't that good..It think Baer won this fight

  • @jseph1234567890 baer was a heavy hitter, but he didnt have speed. Braddock trained hard for this fight and baer didnt train at all. He hung in there and baer got tired. Braddock won all the way.

  • @jseph1234567890 O.o are you f kiddin ?

  • “In all the history of the boxing game you find no human interest story to compare with the life narrative of James J. Braddock…”

  • is max baer jewish ?

  • @elitaren yes he is...he has a tipical jewish name!

  • @elitaren Half Jewish, yes.

  • Esse cara aí é doido é 1935.

  • braddock exposed that nthats y baer lost alot of fightsafter that

  • baer simply lost cuz his feetwork sucked

  • This is fake!! They didn't have TV in the 1800's!!

  • @ttooooll24 no shit sherlock he began fighting in the early 1900

  • @bawan44 Where are you guys getting your facts? Max Baer was born in 1909 so I seriously doubt he began fighting in the early 1900s unless you call 1929, the year he turned professional to be the early 1900s.

  • @ttooooll24 This fight is from June 1934 you douchefag.

  • @Staudten Yeah right!!!! Yall are so stupid..............Color TV came out in like 1932. And the depression happened right after the civil war in the mid 1800's. Get a life!!!

  • @ttooooll24 Holy shit ttooooll r u like a country boy who fucks farm animals since he was 12? ur a fuckin idiot go fucking read a book but btr learn how to read first u fucking dipshit. fuckin 40 year old virgin farm fucking faggot.

  • @crazyben108

A fucking virgin!? You certainly aren't the sharpest tool in the shed either.

  • @crazyben108 So Ben really is crazy, apparently. First of all, i'm 37, not 40, idiot. Second, I'm not a virgin, I just haven't had sex with a person yet. Third, I read really good. And anyway, what are you, a 108 lb fairy with a small penus trying to act tough..........cuz i'll show you what's up.

  • @ttooooll24 Darlin' you need to open a history book. or watch: The Grapes of Wrath. The Depression began with the Stock Market crash on October 29, 1929. As for Color TV. It did not "come out" until 1954 by RCA. The first true technicolor release was from Walt Disney as an animated talkie called "Flowers and Trees" in 1932 and the first full-color, live action was released: La Cucaracha in 1934. So, maybe you can find some time to catch up on a little history before someone calls you stupid.

  • @ToniHunterOne Thanks so much Sir!! No need for a history lesson.....you just gave me that. Glad to know there are people like you out here that truly care. But, people have been calling me stupid all 11 years of my life. So it's cool!! Thanks again for the correction!!

  • I think they make Max Baer looking like a merciless killing machine in order to up the "hero" factor in Braddock. Though the portrayal of Baer did not do any justice to him, but it's movie. it's understood why they do that.

  • i just can't belive how many shots each guy took to the face for 15 rounds and nobody got knocked down, i think its good to note that braddock had 20 pounds and a height disatvantage, he fucking did well to not be flattened by Baer

  • @40DEllis I actually noticed the star this last time I watched it. It's not white by or anything, but it's there. I don't really see why it's an issue though. Both showing their heritage, nothing wrong with that.

  • @1partangel don't let the movie fool you. It is good but still little inaccuracies. Baer was a decent guy in real life and the reason he didn't land much etc was because he didn't train at all for the fight. It's recorded that he thought he'd roll over Braddock and that he was hyped up to be more than he was. Think he learnt though!

  • Una gran honra a la vida, gracias por mostrar q con la lucha y el esfuerzo todo se puede,un ejemplo en cualquier parte del mundo, siempre te recordaremos J J

  • did they hug in the movie?

  • Baer had a 6" reach on Braddock, he didn't nail him in the face too much. He must have been hungover or something. I don't see how Braddock won. Their stat's read that they both were 6'2", but Baer appears much taller. It was interesting to watch, seems like Baer had a mouth on him like my fav, Ali.

  • @1PartAngel Baer was fighting for fame and glory, Braddock was fighting for his family. thats why he won

  • i wanna see jake la motta fights too ...can u get and upload them as well ..uploader..

  • looked alot better in the movie

  • @Clear2engage Do you like real fights or fake ones, although the movie was great

  • Actually they do put the star of David on Baers shorts in the movie... You have to look VERY closely but it is there. Also on the back of Braddocks robe, is a green clover, they are faded so it isn't the main focus but it is visible if you look hard

  • @Instigator94 I've seen the movie over a dozen times and only just seen this video once. It was v. easy to spot the star in the real video, but I'd never once seen it in the movie. I've been back to the dvd and even gone through it in freeze frame - still can't see the star at all in the movie.

It's not the end of the world, and you may be right that it is on his shorts in the movie. But lets be honest, the movie makers have gone out of their way to hide any star as much as possible!

  • if this homo Bear throws another haymaker, i'm gonna puke...uppercuts and haymakers...oh and holding a glove in his opponents face.

  • great movie, just madde it alot more epic. i wish the movie was what it was really like. actally a very boring foght

  • @MrConservative13 Well the thing went 15 rounds. Of course they're not gonna be fighting like they were in the movie towards the end. It's physically impossible.

  • Jimmy Braddock is truly an inspiration :D i liked the movie a lot too

  • I want to see what actually happened in the fight not what some Hollywood wood duck's imagination thinks up !

  • Good footage of fight!

  • Just because they hugg duznt meen anything. In MMA fights most of them hate each other but they still hug and shake hands. And i dont think he ment to kill anyone but he still wasnt a nice man. He said alot of shit about people and used the man he killed as a way to trash talk.

  • @riddelsman It is reported that Baer's own seconds administered to Campbell, and that Baer was by his side until an ambulance arrived 30 minutes later. Baer "visited the stricken fighter's bedside," where he offered Frankie's wife Ellie the hand that hit her husband. She took that hand and the two stood speechless for a moment. "It was unfortunate, I'm awfully sorry.", said Baer. "It even might have been you, mightn't it?", Ellie replied

  • @riddelsman what are you talking about? when he killed the guy he broke down and lost the next 4 fights and had frequent nightmares, not to mention he donated a large portion of his money to the family

  • yeah the movie made him out to be a bad guy he was actually one of the nicest guys ever!!!

  • @mikeyhighfive yes that's what holliwood does better, distort.. manipulate..

  • This fight was rigged, it won the proletarian poor, like the multitude wanted. The crowd in the middle of poor economic recession like Braddock.

A champion poor, for poor people.

Max Baer by another hand have much money, and had already killed two men, was a safe way to withdraw, without effort, nor physical damage.

    Anyhow, such a boring fight!!

  • Braddock lost the title to Joe Louis in his next fight, and took a terrific beating. Louis defended the title against Baer with another devastating KO. Do you think it was all a big conspiracy in favor of Joe Louis?

  • @NilezII Louis did not defend the title against Max Baer! He beat him two year before he even became champ!

  • @NilezII he lost the title to Joe Louis a couple years after this fight.

  • Whoever cries about Baer being portrayed poorly look at the beginning of the fight. He is playing with Braddock for a few rounds. Besides, it's a fucking movie and WE all know based on true story movies are dramatized. Get over it you crybabies.

  • Holy man hollywood twisted this one big time, the only thing that was accurate was his fighting style and the way crow and the other guy played them.

  • I dont think anybody would be watching any boxing matches of today in 2086(thats how old dis vid is...75 yrs old)...that goes on 2 show how Legendary these Boxers are & how EPIC this match is!!!!

  • give some credit to the movie. if it wasn't for the movie we wouldn't be watching this.

  • @dragosxtc fuck yeah

  • geeezzzusss people will cry about anything. It was a movie....let me help you. The rocky movie isn't acurate either, and superman can't fly either.

  • @sacmar01 superman can fly i seen it

  • @sacmar01 The Rocky movie is fiction douchebag!!!! How can fiction be inacurrate?

  • @sacmar01 Superman can totally fly

  • @sacmar01 superman can fly.he just doesnt exist.

  • @sacmar01

And because the Rocky movie isn't acurate [sic] it was called 'Rocky' instead of 'Chuck Wepner'. This movie claimed to be based on a true story, and as a result ended up tarnishing an innocent man’s name.

  • @sacmar01

I agree with you on that, except for the superman 'can't fly' bit. He can totally fly. Anyway, a lot of people can't seem to understand that this is a movie BASED on a story. It was never going to be totally accurate. It's a movie, movies are supposed to have a hero, a villain, climax, etc. A lot of people feel bad for how the movie portrayed Baer, but really, they have to understand that movies are never supposed to be real in the first place.

  • Gefällt mir gut, würde auch oft gern selbst so boxen mit kleinen harten Handschuhen, wo auf Wirkung Wert gelegt wird.

  • if i were james, i would have put a giant swastika on my shorts

  • @arabswag1 yes but you're not a former world champion are you? You're a naive tool sat on your computer,

  • Even in the film Max wasn't really painted as a villain as much as a Vicious fighter. He could really lay a hurt on his opponent. So no I don't agree that the film painted him as a bad guy per se. And for those who think this fight looked boring, well welcome to real boxing lol. Boxers weren't always the six packed brutes you see today and even today the fights can become less "Exciting" compared to their Hollywood caounter parts lol Love the video!

  • I take my hat off to both men, what great sportmanship.

  • great movie. MAde me cry and the film producers did amazing

  • The embrace @ 4:12 true sportsmanship.

  • I'm sry guys, but this looks so fake for me.... wtf

  • @Sobrightt Thats what happens when your dead tired.

  • @Sobrightt If you think this is fake than you my friend are 100% gay.

  • The movie made Max seem like a very bad guy plus in the movie Max's shorts did not have a Jewish star on it. It was just plain.

  • fuck max baer,... the man is worse than the modern day lesner --- fug 'em...

  • It's pretty dull stuff.

  • Jimmy's left jab is very good.

  • @ badboy10ize

Что не так с разговором на польском языке?

Dumb ass! People like you are what brings America down.

  • Of course Max Baer wasnt exactly like he was in the film! You have to be an idiot to believe he was. However Max did have a big reputation for being a playboy and a show-off in and out of the ring. So of course in the film this was hyped up to produce greater compasion for Braddock. In the end Max was a brute in the ring and this was an amazing victory for Braddock. Great Heart

  • Well, film-makers are not historians, and generally don't feel the need for historical accuracy. They generally feel the need to make a movie that has an effective story. Having Baer as the bad guy makes the story better in movie terms. It's crap, but that's the way it is.

I love the snazzy shoes on the ringmaster.

  • Does anyone know if Baer had the star of David on his trunks to make a comment about what was happening to Jews in Germany at the time?

  • @nitramgnal

this was the 30's u idiot

  • @Predinator2k7 And your point is?

  • I agree Max Baer was a decent guy and a gent, Jim Braddock was also a gent, this shows with their respect for each other and being able to seperate the boxing from the personality from each other.

Ron Howard was so wrong in making Max Baer look like a bad guy, what was he thinking? The film aside from that was excellent, it didn't need a 'Rocky' style good guy vs bad guy plot.

  • i remember going to this fight i was only six years old with my dad im a very old man now

  • Check out up coming K.O Boxer Anthony Abbruzzese

  • where are you? where are you watching this?

  • Thank you for this wonderful vintage boxing video. Truly a memorable moment in sports history. The timing of this event could not have arrived at a better time. James J. Braddock's upset victory over Max Baer provided a "ray of hope" to many depression-era people.

  • ...jude lol

  • Legendary. Moments like this never die.

  • kurwa.

  • @corasszo , u fucking polish cunt

  • @nandaka2008 yeah...right. And so?

I mów do mnie kurwa po polsku, bo nie bedę się pierdolił w twoją mowę.

  • @corasszo - Why don't you quit using Polish? Nobody cares about you or your crap language.

  • @badboy10ize because i live in free country. And i can using Polish .

  • @corasszo - Well, you should be grateful for this and at the very least have the grace to learn how to properly speak the language of the 'free country' you live in.

  • @corasszo ile ty masz lat i po co to robisz?? bo nie wiem smarkaczu

  • @jazzin77 u r da dumbest fuck i've ever met on youtube.....godddd.......

  • Braddock wins with the lightning-fast left jab. BAM!

  • I think Braddock really deserves the glory, he's fighting for his family, yet still Baer's performance here looks kinda' sloppy, usually he fight like crazy

  • It looks nothing like the movie. It was so full of action and Max Baer was huge. They look so tiny in "actual" life. I guess it could be the time and the revolution of the clip. I teared up in the movie during the part where the wife walked in the dressing room. It was so sad. She looked really young in the movie compared to James Braddock. I guess it is just show biz though lol.

  • is it me or is this fight's just plain boooring...

  • you will never beat the IRISH this just PROVES IT Y HE WAS NEVER KNOWING LIKE ALL THE GREATS I DO NOT KNOW THIS MAN IS A LEGEND IN MY EYE,s

  • @jay247sniperjay he may have been 2nd generation irish but he's not from ireland, he's an american born and raised, not that i have a problem with irish one way or the other but he was born in new york. its popular for americans to claim irish herritage even if they only have 10% of the bloodline but maybe his parents or grandparents were from ireland but he wasnt. irish is a nationality just as english, scottish, russian etc and his nationality was american but i do like him!

  • @anselmochevelle his a irish person born in america :P irish-american

  • @anselmochevelle "James J. Braddock was born on June 7th, 1905, to Irish immigrant parents Joseph Braddock" 100% irish blood just born in america

  • Joe Gould was a great manager and quite a character.

  • He killed two guys in the ring

  • Niiice

  • Max was actually a good guy. The guy that he killed during a fight, he stayed by his bed side before he died. Max gave alot of his winnings to the widow. Max was never the same and always regreted that match. He never wanted to kill anyone.

  • tell that to Ron Howard, wo made him out to be a monster.

  • Max just seemed to lack any gusto compared to previous fights. He just paws with the left. Braddock really worked it. It was an exciting time to see Braddock come back like that.

  • Notice the "Star of David" on Max Bear's shorts? He was a proud Jewish man although Braddock had the answer!!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow no way this was ana mazing fight if u look at it at the standpoint of where jimmy braddock stood and the standpoint of where baer stood. braddock did work SON!

  • Boxing is an exciting sport, not only in the movies. Try go to a real fight or watch a real one on TV and you would know what I am talking about.

  • @Judycinco and make sure you watch steve molitor haha, boxing is made out to be brutal and barbaric but it is really a test of skill, but more than that its a test of will, heart and character

  • I know this is a storic fight

but it is kinda boring to be honest, in the movie they make it look as if it had been more exciting

  • ya thats hollywood for u

  • well yeah, cause w're used to color and editing and all that. If you were at the fight or listening to the radio with other people cheering you would prob feel diff.

  • At any point does braddock get hit againts the ropes like in the movie?

  • The movie was set to make a point, not be a documentary, and it's a good movie (and to be regarded as just a movie). This is a good fight, that I think went heavily in Braddock's favor. Baer was just a slugger. He should have been an actor, not a boxer. He got a few hard hits but there was rarely any real skill there. Let's not even mention the few dirty tricks he attempted. They were both good guys out of the ring albeit totally different lifestyles. A far cry from the modern 'boxers' today.

  • baer actually became an actor later..

  • Christ they even hug in the end.The movie was just so full of shit.

  • They shake hands at the end of the movie also during the celebration, I'm pretty sure.

  • @dgdbg i know we watched the movie in my class today that was full of drama this was fair right almost i tihnk

  • @dgdbg thats hollywood for ya, they just have to dramatize everything but you know how that goes, hollywood is full of crap but aside from the fluffed up and overdramatized stuff it was still a good movie and is mostly accurate...about80%accurate anyway lol

  • @anselmochevelle i agree, a good movie with excellent fight sequences, but baer was not that much of an a-hole; he gave tons of money to the families of the guys he killed in the ring, even paid for oneof their kids' to go to college. he was a showman and a loudmouth, no doubt about it, but respected braddock. there are even pictures of them hanging out together years later at louis' restaurant i think. the movie did a great job of showing braddock's personal fight though...

  • @dgdbg What is even more sinister is that they do not put the Star of David on his shorts in the movie.

  • @nitramgnal they did

  • @DraconicVisage I just checked again. You are right. I stand corrected. That being said, I had to look closely to see it. I maintain my original point.

  • @dgdbg it's a holywood movie!!!! no movie it's 100% true..

  • @parisrasteca1 Which means it only has entertainment value. Unfortunately, and this can be seen in many of the comments here and on other posts, many people do think the movie is totally true. The non-truths are, in my opinion, manipulative.

  • @dgdbg they hug in the movie at the end.. its short n breif just like in this clip

  • @dgdbg they clearly modernized the story in the movie, and the movie did not do either guy justice. if you watch the commentary they admitted that they tweaked the story so that it would be more dramatic, but if you havent yet I recommend the book "Cinderella Man" it was pretty good, and does a better job with the history of these guys

  • @dgdbg Obviously its Hollywood. You think people wanna watch something like this? no. They need to spice it up and if you were smart enough you would see at the end of the movie that shake hands and Baer gives him a congratulatory nod.

  • @dgdbg max bear looks like a nice guy i bet he didnt even kill anyone this fight is boring as shit i have to admit that fight in the movie was epic

  • @Dwain9596 dude i kno the fight in the movie was way better i thought

  • @dgdbg regardless it was still a good movie

  • @scolton4life15 yea i think the movie would of sucked if they didnt make max bear look like a asshole i understood why he changed the way this fight looked

  • @dgdbg Lol you know how the movies are. They need to make a villain out of somebody, so you get more into it.

  • The biggest upset in boxing history is also the most boring.

  • What about Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey fight #2, Battle of the Long Count

  • Yes, it was.

  • How well do you think the movie would have done if they'd portrayed this fight exactly as it happened (e.g. insomnia-cure boring)?

The movie takes many liberties with reality, as is Hollywood's way. The name of the game is to sell tickets. Drama and action sell tickets; a direct and factual documentary would be relegated to the wee hours of the morning on the History Channel.

  • that movie the cinderela man was full of bull, they made baer an animal ,quite the opposite , he was a gentelman according to history , and that fight ,baer held his own.ron howard ,you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • yeah, but max killed someone in the ring and that is a fact

  • @spooky0834 Every time you step into the ring, you run the risk of dying or killing someone. It's the nature of the fight game. If you don't understand that, take up knitting.
