This was preseason and it was two years ago, when the worst of the bankruptcy issues still were swirling and Mr. Blackberry was still trying to get the team moved days before the preseason opener (logistics aside, obviously.) The team had not been able to advertise, to do any marketing, to sell any advertisements, nothing.

It's still a fiasco, given how slowly Glendale is moving, but it's much better now.

@tobeysdad I haven't seen anything remotely similar to this game at all this season. I went to a game on a Wednesday in November and the crowd was still over 14,000. I also went to the game a week ago when Doaner got his first hat trick. Still a pretty decent crowd for the Islanders.

what people also dont realize about phoenix sports fans is that nearly everyone here is a bandwaggoner

like you said, the suns have been losing attendance, and theyve always been the number 1 team in phoenix

the cardinals are suddenly the most popular team...but just look at where theyve been the last couple years

i hardly ever hear about the Dbacks lately...but during winning seasons, its all anyone can talk about

Looks like they're doing a bit better than earlier in the season now, but I would have liked to see how the attendance would be if the team still played crappy hockey. It would most likely remain the worst in announced attendance numbers and the second worst in real/non-inflated attendance (behind Atlanta)

well last year they dropped close to last place in the west, and the last game still sold (from what i remember) about 17,000

the only reason they havent been filling up is because all summer, all talks were on whether or not they would even be here...so no one was buying tix (and its not because phoenix doesnt have real hockey fans, its because thats just how phoenix sports fans are)

but since the beginning of the season, attendance has gone up

Sure, the Coyotes would have better crowds if they made playoffs, but to win, they need better players, meaning more money, meaning more people must go to games to support them money-wise.

to be honest i dont think the coyotes would fill that place up regardless if they sucked or were great, the city of phoenix just isnt much of a sports city with the exception of the cardinals, and football is quickly becoming the most popular sport in this country over baseball

toronto cant be used as an example man, thats canada, they could be 0 and whatever and they would still fill up the arena because they live eat and breath hockey

lol you dont have a good point thats why. when you have 8 of 30 teams on life support there is no such thing as stability. look at the fuckin leafs, havnt made playoffs in 4 fuckin years but still sell our and still charge like 80 bucks for fuckin seats up in the nosebleed section like you dont have to win to sell tickets if the fans actually care about the game. like straight up itd be a good thing if teams move around like if they cant sell tickets its fucking pointless to be in a city!

the fact that its pre season means nothing. the wings had 10,000+ fans turn up at taver cityu just to watch an intersquad skate/scrimage. nothings gonna change in phoenix once the season starts you fucknig loser and dont try blaming the bankcrupcy, if anything it should have motivated your fans to show up and proove you want to keep your team and that you guys can actually support it! like dont make fuckin excuses.
