This isn't the original version, it was actually done first by Tears For Fears. One of my favorite of their songs. Gary Jules didnt write it, but he definitely completely reinvented it and did a spectacular job. I love them both. Adam Lambert DID butcher it. As someone else said, he has a nice voice but he put too much into it. It's the simplicity and the feeling of aching behind numbness that makes it so beautiful. The world being a numb, monotonous, jaded place is the whole point.
