@Rhinoscooter03 decent? if youre going to buy one don't cheap out or they break in a heart beat.. for an entry level board thats worth the money will be around $300-$350
man i hate expert village! this guy is a total idiot, what about different types of fiberglass, what about CARBON FIBER BOARDS????!!!!!!! HUH??? the two categories should be "flatland boards and wave boards" not fiberglass and wood. this guy is gonna screw up the brains of newbs!!! NEVER buy a board from walmart or a sporting goods store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thumbs up if you agree!
look, i ride a circle 1 woody board and still catch small shore waves, all a foam board does is make it easier. but if your willing to do the extra work a woody board can be just as good
@SWSmagnum no, woodys are for poor people and look retarted. you think your better than lets say me, cause you can barely ride in waves on a woody. so can i. not that hard. but i can also go 30 feet into the water and do flips and surf waves back in.
if you are on holiday near a buzy beach you can buy a cheap wooden skimboard at one of the little stalls near the beach. this will be a low quality board but it's good to start with.(it'll cost you about 10$)
I'm on vacation in Maui for 2 weeks and I was wanting to skimnoard since I had the last time I was here. I was wondering if I should buy a wooden board or rent a carbon or fiberglass or w/e board for $120. advice??
alright ya im not the best at riding waves but im gettin more into it and its really hard to ride with a victoria woody if your not on the flats lol but ya thanks for the advice
he means the two basic types if you really want to go into it theres exile zap victoria and those are the three main hi-end skimboard companys and theres slotstik a newer hi-end company and then the low end companys tht make only wood boards are like infinate
i got a victoria woody 2009 but i don't go the waves in if i got enough money i go check for a fiber glass bloard but i live in the nederlands so i don't have big 5 or something as sport shop :)
I use a victoria fiberglass. Fiberglass is better in my opinion as i can ride waves and flatland. Fiber for me rides better on both. Also u shouldnt use boards from big 5 or walmart. thats where i got my first board and they suck! Check out Victoria skimboards, they are expensive, but well worth it.
i need to get a new 40-42" board cuz my old ones to small, im just a flatland boarder so i should get a wooden board? but i only got $40 so does anyone no what type i should get?
i have a wave zone and to me it is a in etween board it can be used flat very wel annd waves very well plus i tried zap and its the same but i like wave zone better
how does a victoria compare to wave zone? And I live in utah, i go to california a lot on vacation-coronado beach ftw, what is a good lake to go flatland 'boarding at in utah?
victoria has a better reputation than wave zone...wave zone boards have more rocker which means theyre curved more which can help u skim over small waves but doesnt go as far on flatland.....if u are a flatland rider u do not need a foam/glass board....check out akwa they are specific to flatland
there E glass to there a bunch of shit that u dont hear of to much caaz well its too exspensive those are the to most commmon for ppl watching vids on how to skimboard
ah... I've been doin flatland stuff for years, but got a fiberglass board for the first time. I've been watchin' some videos on how to do a wrap, but I can't figure it out. does it matter that I'm goofy-footed?
Nah bro, goofy or reg doesn't really make much of a difference...it'll just affect which way you wrap.
Backside is hella easier for wraps, at least for me. Since you're goofy just try to wrap backside by putting pressure on the inside rail of your board and keeping weight even. It will help to learn to run-step to get out to further breaks and to safely drop in bigger closer ones. Start your turn a lil bit before you get to the wave. Hope this helps a bit. Just keep at it and you'll get it.
Thanks brah. Getting closer to it- still feelin' a little awkward but i'm gettin the hang of it. Now the only problem is not sinking- have too much weight on my front foot, keeps makin me sink.
Juno Beach FL. check it out, excellent skim spot. go south of the pier
Hell yeah, badass down there. I live near Daytona...really hard to get out to the break there so learning to mount quicker helped with speed. XD
Because you're goofy, try making your entry going left, slightly backside. You'll already be facing the beach and going the direction of your wrap. When you get to the wave, pump up and smack your tail into the lip. Keep your weight slightly back as the wave will push you forward.
I'll give you a heads up when i'm down there again. Later hommie.
yeah wave zone might be ok, i like zap better, my friend has a wave-zone and it wears down very easy, a zap will give you a better run for your money but if u are just tryin to get into skimboarding and need a good starter board a zap lazer is very good, i use a zap wedge its a bit more pricy than a lazer, but its bigger.
i would recommend carbon fiber, because it is stronger and u can easily surf waves, if u by WZ "Wave Zone" "The Stealth" is the way to go if u r really good like me and my bud, we live in destin florida
well i got a video on youtube,(click my name and watch the most recent one) but that day was mostly all backside wraps and hollow barrels. lets see your stuff.

Try wave-zone. they're pretty good quality, but way less expensive than zaps and all the other name brand boards.
It also sort of depends on your size and weight-- how tall are ya and how much do you weigh?
