Actually, this isn't a sign of the future, as this was written during the DU sessions. They haven't released ANYTHING from the new sessions.

Sing The Sorrow is probably their worst album. I'm not saying quality wise, but look at what came right before it. Black Sails was so good and unique, and then Art of Drowning built on that, and got cleaner. Everything before that was amazing. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of this band, and This Celluloid Dream is my favorite song of all time, I just don't thing STS was a very strong step for them musically.
