I'm 20 and I LOVE the Marx Brothers. I love a lot of classics. I don't know if it helps that my gramma raised me, but I also got into a lot of stuff on my own. If I ever have kids, I'm going to introduce all this good stuff to them too!
Also, there is so much to choose from for entertainment today, it would take a guiding hand to present to kids the real classics. Most kids, (people) tend to believe that life, culture, history, etc..began the day they were born, and have no interest in things of the past..it is their great loss.
Asking "Who are the Marx brothers?" is just about as bad as asking "Who is Charles Dickens?" or "Who is Mark Twain?" Hopefully we of the younger generations can save humanity from complete intellectual and social oblivion, but I'm not holding my breath. [witty pun here]
I'm in a corporate law class and the subject of contracts came up. I made a reference to the "Party of the First Part" scene from A Night at the Opera. The professor (an attorney) laughed. The rest of the class (a batch of Millennial college students) looked at me like "buh?" Humanity is doomed when the lawyer has the best sense of humor in a room.
I make skits that are chock-full of puns and one-liners, please take a look and let me know what you think! I'm a huge fan of The Marx Brothers and want to reach out to an audience who likes that sense of humor
I am 13 and my dad showed me one of their movies when I was 7 and I have been in love with the Marx Bothers ever since! Harpo is my favorite, especially in Duck Soup when he put his feet in the other vendors lemon aide! God I love these movies!!! Thumbs up for not letting old movies go to waist in peoples memory!!
@kevinwholmes I know. I asked a fellow teacher if he had ever scene "A Day at the Races," starring the Marx Brothers. I had just shown it to my 7 year old son, who laughed hysterically throughout. This teacher said, "Who are the Marx Brothers?" The guy is 26. We're doomed.
@kevinwholmes I think it's primarily because parents aren't teaching their kids about the classics. Fortunately my father told me about lots of this stuff, and I also found a lot of it on my own. There are still a few of us who know the genius of Groucho Marx and the other brothers. I myself an am avowed Marxist ;o)
@kevinwholmes In the 70s when I was a kid, they were on TV all the time; I saw them in theatres too...I have a feeling kids wouldn't like them even if they saw it-not enough fart/white-guy-can't-dance jokes.
@kevinwholmes We all need to teach the kids these days about the Marx Brothers and other old movies so they'll never be forgotten! I know I'm gonna do that! :D
@YoungSHolmesfan Ain't it the truth? My brother watches them every December, he knows all the movies, which joke came from which film, I've only seen Duck Soup and A Night in Casablanca so far, though the train scene in Go West was nothing short of hilarious. My kids are definitely going to grow up watching Marx Brothers, 3 stooges, Buster Keaton, Abbott and Costello, Harold Lloyd, all the greats.
@TheBookWorm1718 I quote from a lot of the movies. Though I have to stop myself sometimes cuz a lot of people don't know them. So sad. I have all their movies too. That's awesome that you like Buster, A&C and Harold Lloyd! They are the greats! that's what my kids are gonna do is know who the greats are! Until then, I'm going to teach my niece who they are!

I think it was Joel Adamson who pointed out that the greatest verbal comedian of the 20th century would inevitably play straight man to a common dialect comic.
But what do you want with a Ford when you gotta horse?

Too bad this isn't taught in school, like useless things like science and math!

Eventually Groucho says "you see that wire fence over there?" and Zeppo asks "Why a fence?"

Great stuff. I love the Marx Brothers. Sadly, they seem to be fading from memory; probably a generational thing.

@YoungSHolmesfan You like those guys, you should check out Martin and Lewis. Also an amazing, extremely hilarious comedic pair.
