the only way to reduce corruption is for the community to ostracise the culprits: don't talk to them, don't sell to them, don't have anything to do with the. The problem is that nearly every member of the community is interacting with the corrupt; policemen, school teachers and govt. officials. Cut them off, and they will have to change. You cannot imprison the whole country.

It's great that these people "Own" their land but it seems like this is just a way for the World bank to say "Hay we're doing something good!". No one's "given" anything in a Monetary system. They honestly looked like teenagers receiving their first credit cards at the thought of getting equity loans from the bank. All money is created out of debt & you'll be a slave to that debt. There was no mention of providing education for them & in areas with such poverty, low education's almost certain.

This is a form of slavery. Keep poor countries poor and own their debt to make them work for you. Structural Adjustment Programs(SAP's...) are set up to fail, while at the same time making the program installer look good.

They supply water to the poor by claiming ownership on the countries' water supplies and charging poor people for that water without letting and/or helping the people learn to treat the water themselves. they are sucking money completely out of the community and providing no way for that money to be replaced to the poor. to put it like a well known analogy: "fishermen deny the knowledge of fishing as to increase fish selling profits"

Im so happy for the people and governments of Cambodia for there progress!howeveras soon as the country even goes through a small rescission in their economy, the country will no longer be able to support their debts and will need to refinance will the IMF which will impose structural adjustment programs and all the infastructure will become privatized, the water, the canals, electricity all will skyrocket in price, social services will be cut and poverty in the country will be worse than before

This is wonderful.I have been to Cambodia.They need a huge dose of human kindness indeed.However how do you know it is all getting to the people?There goverment is totally greedy ,corrupt and cares nothing for the poor Khmers.

It's great that World Bank is helping Cambodia, but in Sri Lanka the government is using the humanitarian money to buy arms. The money that World Bank donated to Sri Lanka after the tsunami was and is still being used by the government to purchase arms to kill innocent Tamils. Can you please ask the government as to why in Mullithevu the civilians still live in temporray houses with out any adequate drinking water. Please do something.

It has been almost 30 years since Pol Pot and his government lost the war. Why Cambodia still stuck in poverty? All these donation, where has it's gone? World Bank, if you want to see rapid improvement in Cambodia, give the money to me!

It is doing a good job at its core mission, i.e. reducing poverty.

BUT all progress can be destroyed by the political ambition of WB (mainly US ideologies). All it takes is some sparks of struggles and you see powers like US+Japan vs China and Vietnam on oppossing sides vying for influence and Khmer blood will be spilled again.

WB, pls leave your ideologies at home when you are in Cambodia.
