After watching this video, I realize how much an average karate student has to learn in order to parry attacks with ease. I think it usually goes like this:
slow blocking (as it is initially taught) -> quicker blocking techniques -> costly parrying techs -> energy-economic parrying techs (like inside defense, among many others). I personally think I have have been doing this all wrong with my inefficient wide motion parrying.
Good point with the maintaining of the hand posture. It makes sense.
@jambi99 I study JKD and we defend a straight lead w/ the 4 corners drill from the rear hand as we intercept/attack...its not as hard when drilled daily...one of my natural talents is quick reflexs...but check out some four corner drills on youtube...it might give a new way of looking at a straight lead defense...
Awesome video -- keep them coming. I just started my KM training and I find it the most practical so far after many years of Hapkido, Sambo and Kenpo Karate!! % stars *****
Exactly how I learned it. Great basic defense to teach to beginning students. I really like your videos because they show actual techniques with great execution.
Hey mate, I'm not sure what you mean by "kick," but I did not include counterattacks on purpose. I wanted the video to focus only on the defense. I'll include counterattacks in additional videos.
What if they're hitting for your neck? Deflection will send it into the shoulder, which will/can cause a lot of damage.

Great video, thanks. Just started Krav and it helps to watch at home for practice.

You should do a body defense as well in this technique, because his hand is like few inches from your face xD

Krav maga looks much easier than Wing Chun. So im going to learn krav maga. BTW: Your vids are great

@obiwanfisher537 Me too. I've been doing wing chun for more than year now and i found it pretty
hard to learn. I feel like i'll have to spent years and years before becoming usable in a real situation.

@jambi99 Yeah, thats bad when you have to defense yourself

Can you post a video that shows how to counter attack that? Like, I know htat with Krav maga you need to strike back with almost every defense.

In jujutsu we handle it similarly except we step in and turn 90 degrees to make it easier to setup our offense. Great video.
