@TheFatal05 Race would be over his skin tone... this is more nationality. Positive comments are always nice cause well, we don't have as many celebs as the Americans (not complaining, just saying). Any complaints, yeah Canadians can have talent, it's true. Talent comes in all nationalities, races, both genders, ages and religious groups. It's a fact, don't like it, enjoy life wearing a blind fold.
Bobby Curtola is Canada's answer to Frankie Avalon or whomever the teen idols of the day were in that era!My Dad has met him on several occasions doing furniture sales across Canada in the last few years.
Great post, thanks, 5 stars. I remember this well from the 60's. I don't think anybody's done a cover of Bobby's stuff on Youtube so I gave it a shot. Also, there's a local radio station making a push for Bobby to enter Canada's Walk Of Fame. Go to canadaswalkoffame if you want to nominate him. He deserves this!
XD i first heard this song on the radio with my dad. im 16.. 2 songs i thought that would be perfect for annoyiung other people cus of it being old and so out of "style" with todays music. i mean i thought they were funny this song and, next door to an angel i spammed it in a game for people to hear. while playing.. XD while.. i've grown attached to the song i chose to annoy people. shit happens eh? XD
I saw Bobby Curtola at the Sudbury Ontario arena in his initial flush of success. I recall the advertising posters called him "Mr. Personality" which I thought was a bit odd considering that for me it was all about the music :-)
@ErminioRoberto There is not a cruise night that goes by that I do not hear this song! I usually show up with my penny loafers, straight leg jeans and white T-shirt.....on. Thanks for keeping the memories alive!
I saw Bobby in 1964 in Quesnel British Columbia. His tour was sponsored across Canada by Coca Cola. I was 16 at the time.
Thanks for the memories. FYI Bobby is from Thunder Bay , Ontario and on Tartan Records, and most of his songs were written by his managers two bros I believe. Hurdon& Hurdon.
Only heard this a few times on the radio, but I liked it- Hard to get by the top 20 stuff that was played over and over. Thanks for putting this out there.
Being from Buffalo N Y I got to hear Mr. Curtola on CHUM radio when the songs were new. Now as a mobile DJ, whenever I play his music, someone always comes up and tells me it's been years since they've heard any of his music. Great music.
Bobby was always a idol. So many memories, like being at the A&W drive-in, having girls on roller skates taking our order. God,I wish I could turn back time!
bufb, in '63 I was 16. Bobby C. was 20 (he was too old for me then). I had a crush on Bobby Gauthier who just happened to sit 3 rows over and 2 seats down! boy could he kiss n' stuff lol. he looked a little like Bobby C. & I looked like Marcie Blane ("Bobby's Girl" on you tube). now I sing my song to Robert Plant...I just saw him in Toronto and sat 3 rows over and 2 seats down (5th row)! ♥ Diane. PS my daughter lives in Thunder Bay!! wait'll I tell her! see you on Facebook Bobby! ☺
Why do find it necessary to be so rude. People really don't care if you like it or not. If you don't like it then don't listen to it, or is that to difficult for you to comprehend.
Some people have fantastic memories of those times, when we went to dances to make friends and to dance not to shoot or knife people to death. What has your generation done lately?
It was and is dreck, the exploitation of vulgarity for the unthinking and unfeeling. The guys I knew then, who, like me, loved good rock and roll, and R and B and such like, hated this ersatz crap.
I'll tell ya': my problem with it is: it's fake. Take doo wop for example, or the girl groups, beautiful stuff, high schooly to be sure, but with a real authenticity to it all.
I discovered that every country had her own teenage idols. For example even my country Romania had singers from this category.Margareta Paslaru, Aurelian Andreescu, Constantin Draghici, Dan Spataru are some romanian great singers from that period.
My friend, if you're developing a hankering for Bobby Curtola, you're in luck. There are now five different Bobby Curtola recordings on You Tube (counting this one). I think the popularity of Brent441's video - "Walking With My Angel" - inspired others to post Bobby's material.
If you haven't yet, you should check out Bobby's website.
