1:47: That's my hometown's old drive-in, the Circle in Waco, TX. It closed down around 1982, I believe, and re-opened as a flea market in the early '90s.
I am on the mailing list and can't wait to watch this. I live outside of Chicago in the south suburbs and saw the drive ins went from probably over 100 to only a few and the closest open one is an hour from me. There are two abandoned drive ins within a half hour from me and live to see both reopen, though one is now a compost facility.
Nicely done ... nicely done!!! How very true, too! I grew up going to Drive-Ins, then worked at them, then finally operated my own! I even published a Drive-In Theatre preservation newsletter at one time. Only two of 42 remain here in CT, but the memories can never be erased from my mind and soul! I am now a professional film actor ... this is crazy, but I'd be thrilled to be able to one day see one of my movies projected upon the GIANT screen!!! Thanks again, and God Bless!!!
Fresno, Ca had 8 drive in theaters. Now there are none. The closest one was about 20 min drive to Madrea, but word is that they closed down last summer. Now the closest one in 4 - 5 hr's away. However, me and my girlfriend are thinking of building one. Just need to talk to the bank!!!
be sure to look into UDITOA- the drive-in owners association - they have many members who have built drive-ins from scratch in the last few years. good luck!
What an wonderful video!!! My 5yr old daughter asks me if i can fix our towns broken down screen with my tool box..... it almost brings tears to my eyes. Anyway, we have a backyard theater with a dlp projector. STILL MAKEING MEMORIES!!!! Rhinelander Wi
Yeah I do the backyard theater thing too. Nothing beats the real drive in though. Its a shame there arent many left. There's a cool website called Backyard Theater, but you probably already know about it. Everyone else should check it out!
You and the other 5,000 CBG's feed off talented people who create entertainment that you will NEVER have the talent or will to create. Those that CAN NOT create critique! YOUR cliche text is unwanted and stupid. This documentary is OBVIOUSLY a heartfelt masterpiece that will ,live forever. What of lasting value will you leave? NOTHING! Thanx Cap Dec for prodding humans to comment. Cyber Board geeks should remain silent!
Great JOB!!!!!! Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the drive ins. Back in the 70s there were 15 in the kansas city metro area. Now there are only three. I guess we are lucky to have that many. Still its not quite the same. Because of high insuance rates they no longer have play grounds for the kids and serve only reheated food and snacks. They no longer show cartoons before the main feature as well.
Now, let's do a little math. Close to 5,000 views and only two comments? It appears that most of us are enjoying the labors of others but we...make that YOU can't take a few seconds to encourage these artists? This looks like the start of a really cool tribute to that slice of Americana that we all love.
Thank you for documenting drive ins. "driveindoc" should be very proud of her efforts, I see she has a 3 minute video I'll watch now, and I'll comment, because I appreciate her efforts!

The narrative was awesome, especially about the demise of the drive-in. How absolutely sad but true. Those truly were the golden years, weren't they?
Possibly the best drive-in documentary I've ever seen, even at less than 3 minutes.
It is also sad that as the years go on, people will have no idea what going to a drive-in theater was really like.
