The reason is socio-economic not religious. The Hindus are "low" caste Hindus, who benefit from India's very strong affirmative action policy (jobs/college seats are reserved for them).
The Christians are originally "low" caste Hindus who converted. They want to continue to benefit from reservations, the Hindus do not want them to.

To a neutral third party observer it does. The assumption is that there exists a monotheistic "god" who is in "heaven". Wild assumptions. A truly good quote would be one that has a universal appeal. I like the second one better, including to atheists.
