This movie was fantastic, but it would have been a masterpiece and a treasured classic had Stanley Kubrick lived long enough to make it. Speilburg came in and sprinkled it with a little child magic that didn't do so well; but still very good.
OMG...there's another movie which Haley Joel stars in as a kid!Cause i only two of his kid movies Pay it forward and the sixth sense!Im going to download this
I wonder what will happen to David (Haley Joel) When he found out that he's mom wasn't in his side anymore when he woke up in the morning??? I want a sequel but of course... Haley's grown up already...
The point was meant to be that he didn't really go to sleep, it was a metaphor for him 'dying' or deactivating himself.
He said at the beginning, "I can't sleep, but I can lay quietly." Which, if you take to be true, means that by 'going to the land where dreams are made' means he effectively killed himself.
Totally under-rated movie. One of Mr. Spielberg's finest, next to Schindler's List and the Indiana Jones trilogy (the 4th movie wasn't that good, in my opinion). I nearly cried during two scenes. Should have been nominated for/won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Score, Best Screenplay, Best Visual Effects, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Song, etc. Haley Joel Osment was excellent in this film, as were Jude Law and Frances O'Connor.
@Jebact If you're referencing to the whole evolution vs. creationism thing, evolution is factual, whether we were created by god or not. We have evolved since we began as humans and we will continue to evolve, it's how our race works.
@LeighbyTM Sorry buddy... WHAT ... not for you... i jst confsd that day so sorry... ur comnt is beautiful, and u sain 100% right.. me agreed.... A HEART TOCHING MOVIE and this mo v can b recomnd to anybody...

such beautiful eyes... this is the best movie l have ever seen... i laughed... i cried... it was sad in the forest where the mother had to leave him and he was crying. my heart was aching. he is such a cute little boy though, but what i didn't understand was the very end where him and the mom went to sleep... did she die like the more modern mecha had said she would and what about david? that had me confused....
In a sea of rubbish "cinema" portrayed by Hollywood, mediocrity is king.
Although this film has its flaws, it is truly the last great science fiction film since Blade Runner. Even though the quality between the two is vastly disproportionate.
this is one of my favorite movies. i love it soo much .. the last 20 minutes are sooo sad .. i was to cry all this time .. last day i watched this movie ..
best move ever .. spielberg the best .. love it ..
i hope you can understand my english .. i know thats sometimes bad .. but i will do my best .. hehe ... and i´m from germany xD ..
He's a robot child made for a family who lost their real son. coincedentally the only robot robot ever built to love, or want something he wasnt told to want.
Most movies of today don't impress me that much but this certainly did i was hugely surprised at how good this movie was, The main acting accolades go to Haley Joel Osment -- who carries the film as an innocent, albeit, unreal child, left alone and vulnerable in a very cruel world; he only wants to return to the only home he has ever known. Acting honors also go to Jude Law, who is refreshingly daffy as a gigolo and friend to David
I, myself, just watched the movie yesterday. It came on HBO and I was like, "Meh. Seems good." It was very sad indeed. I teared-up at the part where his mother FINALLY told him she loved him.
@cuteybooti2 You know it's interesting. David is not a human being and has absolutely no ability to feel emotions like love. He has a purpose that he was programmed to do, to obtain love from his mother.
He has to do this because he is programmed and when he finally does, he shuts down.
I think it's fascinating that the film creates this huge illusion that he's a real boy who has dreams and feels love. In reality he just can't, it states that humanity is irreplaceable. Very dark and Kubrick
this is the first hollywood movie in which I cried from the inner heart. May be this is only the hollywood movie in which i cried from heart. i will never forget it. That actor Haley is sooo brilliant. and hancy too !!!
