Yes, you can hide behind thenpillars to heal, but gwyndolin's large magic spheres go right through the pillars, so one must be careful.

If you don't kill the anor Londo fire keeper until after you beat gwyndolin (he's a dude btw), then you can use the bonfire at the bottom of the staircase, I'm sure. After gwyndolin, then you can beat that bitch's face in.

@Demont The events that you do in the game don't determine the ending. You get one of two endings based off of what you do after you kill Gwyn. One ending comes from walking out of his room, the other comes from lighting the fire in his room.

In my playthrough, I actually left Gwynevre alive so I could keep killing the two royal giants and the silver knight (if you wear the gold serpent ring, you can farm them for titanite chunks and you can easily make 7300 souls each time you kill them even without the silver ring). Interesting note, if you kill Gwyndolin by using the Darkmoon Seance ring to reach him, the illusion still stays up, so you can kill him and still farm the giants for souls and chunks.

It's odd, I also died on the boss but was sent to 2nd bonfire everytime. Also isn't there leavers that can raise the bridge to you ?

I think the blade the Firekeeper uses is the Darkmoon version, not crystal magic. I could be wrong though, the graphics are very similar

...and you only have to dodge the big spell since you can hide behind the pillars on both sides to avoid the smaller knives
