Uh...satellites orbit the planet in various angles but always within Earths natural rotation. They cant travel over the north or south poles, the photos are taken at an angle, the further away the image, the more distorted it becomes. Take 1000 of those photos and the resulting intersection looks like that. When google earth started the intersection points were clear and obvious, few updates later they blur it out and the crazies go mental with all sorts of crap

umm, thats because theres no satelite directly south or north of earth, so its just the place where lots of pictures are squeezed together.. remember, that these pictures are taken flat, and then folded into a circle.. they have put the glitchy place at the poles, because noone lives there, and hardly noone has any interest in seeing a bunch of snow, while many people has interest in seeing all other parts of the globe.

Also look up hollow earth theories - that's the reason for this. Not because it's uninteresting, its everything except that. You've just accepted that the poles are meaningless. Wake up people.

The imagery sattelites are looking at the poles from closer to the eqarorial area, what you are seeing is the softwares attempt to make that 2d image curve properly onto the 3d globe, while unable to compensate for the shadowing effect caused by such an obtuse shot.

Uh...satellites orbit the planet in various angles but always within Earths natural rotation. They cant travel over the north or south poles, the photos are taken at an angle, the further away the image, the more distorted it becomes. Take 1000 of those photos and the resulting intersection looks like that. When google earth started the intersection points were clear and obvious, few updates later they blur it out and the crazies go mental with all sorts of crap

umm, thats because theres no satelite directly south or north of earth, so its just the place where lots of pictures are squeezed together.. remember, that these pictures are taken flat, and then folded into a circle.. they have put the glitchy place at the poles, because noone lives there, and hardly noone has any interest in seeing a bunch of snow, while many people has interest in seeing all other parts of the globe.

@PartykongenBaddi It's actually because law was made so that satellite imagery of the poles can't be obtained, or at least to a certain point. Also look up hollow earth theories - that's the reason for this. Not because it's uninteresting, its everything except that. You've just accepted that the poles are meaningless. Wake up people.

And please tell me which country has decided this, because as far as i know, the north pole is part Danish, part Russian, part Norwegian and possibly part Canadian, and they all fight over who has the rights to the oil which might be hidden under the ice. There are pictures of the poles, for scientific researches, but the common man has no interest in these, so they arent on google earth.

@wescanshred Also, pictures of the poles are more expensive to make than pictures of any other place on earth, as there are no sattelites over it. Then you might ask: "then what about the pictures taken from plane?" and the answer is: The poles are very far from any air ports, so it would be expensive to fly to there, just to take som white blurry pictures of snow. not to mention, that engines doesnt like cold weather, and noone wants to loose a plane with crew, just to get some stupid pictures.
