Really great game. I played Boulder Dash in my childhood for hours and hours. Emerald Mine was a nice clone, too. If you like this type of games, you might want to check out GET THE GEMS, my homage to Boulder Dash. Just search youtube for "get the gems walkthrough" !
Woops,sorry-put the same comment twice-re-wrote it as I didn't think it went through first time! Lol! Most videos on You Tube won't work today, this one took ages to start. anyone else having the same problem? :-/ (It's 13/09/2010.)
Love the loading sound, love the theme tune, love the noises, especially at the exit!!! Love the game, just 80's quality stuff! Reminds me of when I was 5!! :-)))
Back in 1993/1995 I made a Boulder Dash clone twice, one for the Atari ST and one for the Atari Falcon, called "Boulder Smash". The latest one is my clone for the Apple Macintosh called "Crystal Gems 3.0". :-)
In Poland we had cartridges with Turbo Blizzard system, or something like that. And when you put the cartridge in, you could choose between loaders (you didn't use basic to load games) - I remember Microloader, KOS and Binary loader. Most of the games loaded in Microloader but you needed to use KOS or Binary loader for few games. And different loaders sounded little different (at least that's how I remember it).
I played this game on zx spectrum. One of the reasons this game is so good is because when you dig through earth the sound is so deep and organic it feels like you really go through chunks of soil.
If you are playing it on a real Atari, with real joysticks, and someone who doesn't own the Atari wants to play... Give them a joystick you don't care about!
This game breaks joysticks! Not because the movement sucks or anything, because those who don't have to replace the joysticks get over excited, and in a hyper fit go beyond normal strength and ---CRACK---!
OMG i remember when my mum got this and i always used to nag her to play it hehe it seemed nearly endless to me. it was almost like never ending levels lol
No, I said completely different, not this beep sound. Maybe it was a fully unique copy, someone changed its music. Someone must have had it also, at least in this country, but only several people saves these games onto their PCs.
i have the game boy versien since i was little (actually i "had", can't find it anymore :( ), and looking at this video it copies the levels exactly. but it has better visuals and music. i really loved it and still like it a lot :) right now i am playing boulder dash rocks for nintendo DS, which also is very good :)
On what computer? For the Amiga there was a remake called Emerald Mines, which became even more popular than the original, probably because of really great sound and graphics.
I spent a half hour looking for this version of the music. I was hoping I'd find it in a wav, mod or MP3 but at least I got to hear it.

Do you have to let it load for 30 seconds? Just start the video when the gameplay starts

Man I used to love this game! I had an Atari 800XL and I love the beeping during load :)

@svtcontour
I had Atari 65XE, with casette deck, the sounds during loading were a lot more interesting than beeping of the diskette ;)
grisznik 3 months ago
@grisznik Did the casette make noise during load? I only had a casette for a short time so I dont even remember what using it was like.

did you really have to devote half a minute to the bootup sequence?

of course he did. That's what brought back all the memories!!!

Yes, because it shows how long the bootup took before the game was loaded. It is part of the ambiance.
