  • I spent a half hour looking for this version of the music. I was hoping I'd find it in a wav, mod or MP3 but at least I got to hear it.

  • Do you have to let it load for 30 seconds? Just start the video when the gameplay starts

  • Uff, difícil juego, pero lo terminé, excelentes recuerdos.

  • Ick, it's the slow PAL version of the music.

  • świetna giera!

  • Best Game ever!

  • oooooooh !! love loading sound !!!!!!!!!!

  • I know this game Boulder Dash I and II on Atari 800XL with Floppy 1050. Loading was cooool! ;-)

  • Hmm... looks like someone used to get PIRATED GAMES!... Cool to see again! :D

  • Woops,sorry-put the same comment twice-re-wrote it as I didn't think it went through first time! Lol! Most videos on You Tube won't work today, this one took ages to start. anyone else having the same problem? :-/ (It's 13/09/2010.)

  • Those were the days :-)

  • the game i played the most.....

addicted as i was.... i could play it all day :D

thanks for posting up this one!

    greetings from Holland

  • The c64 version is on nintendo wii and highly addictable!

  • The boot beep/click is so nostalgic!

  • Back in 1993/1995 I made a Boulder Dash clone twice, one for the Atari ST and one for the Atari Falcon, called "Boulder Smash". The latest one is my clone for the Apple Macintosh called "Crystal Gems 3.0". :-)

  • Man I used to love this game! I had an Atari 800XL and I love the beeping during load :)

  • @svtcontour

I had Atari 65XE, with casette deck, the sounds during loading were a lot more interesting than beeping of the diskette ;)

  • @grisznik Did the casette make noise during load? I only had a casette for a short time so I dont even remember what using it was like.

  • @svtcontour

    /watch?v=QyC1Ld19pq8

But it's not exactly how I remember it.

In Poland we had cartridges with Turbo Blizzard system, or something like that. And when you put the cartridge in, you could choose between loaders (you didn't use basic to load games) - I remember Microloader, KOS and Binary loader. Most of the games loaded in Microloader but you needed to use KOS or Binary loader for few games. And different loaders sounded little different (at least that's how I remember it).

  • @grisznik Poland can`t into space =`(

  • @2Trololo

    I don't understand...

  • @svtcontour

Oh, and the cartridge I had also had a 'program' for head-tuning

  • jajaja bit bit bit que recuerdos XD

  • Probably the best version, as it is the original one :) But the Atari floppy loading beeps suck :) I like to play it on Atari at most.

  • aaah memories and bubble bobble!!

  • Many thanks for posting it!

  • that's the actuall sound I'v heard in my version from BoulderDash.... C54 floppy disc version ;)

  • I loved this game as a kid!

  • Comment removed

  • my father like to play this when i was maybe 6 yr old...

great game, i send a the video to my dad

  • I played this game on zx spectrum. One of the reasons this game is so good is because when you dig through earth the sound is so deep and organic it feels like you really go through chunks of soil.

  • the best atari800 game by far!!

  • Oh yeah, a footnote on this...

If you are playing it on a real Atari, with real joysticks, and someone who doesn't own the Atari wants to play... Give them a joystick you don't care about!

This game breaks joysticks! Not because the movement sucks or anything, because those who don't have to replace the joysticks get over excited, and in a hyper fit go beyond normal strength and ---CRACK---!

  • lol.. so true

  • uuaaah, THANK U for upload and thank you ATARI !! This is my childhood, really ! Hours and hours...... :-) THANKS

  • omg this song!!!! oh the memories!!! :D I LOVE YOU! for upping this!

my whole family had so much fun with it for so many years!!!

thank you Atari and thanks for the upload!!

  • The Ace of Clubs (a.k.a. Luke Vibert) sampled the title theme for this game in a track called "Assid"

  • OMG!! I had this in my commodore 64 when I was 5 y.o!! and I played it over and over!! the music is still great!!! :)

    x

  • OMG i remember when my mum got this and i always used to nag her to play it hehe it seemed nearly endless to me. it was almost like never ending levels lol

  • Great Game! Is there an emul for this game?

  • Yes, there is, Google exactly without spaces...

    Atari800WinPLus

    and...

    XLSearch

For the emulator, and the program search, and then in XL Search...

    Boulderdash

Look down the results for Boulderdash 1.atr

    Have fun!

  • Thank you. What should I do with - OS ROM images in ROM Images Selections?

  • Funky 8 bit Jazz classic! Cheers for leaving the serial load noises in there ; )

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • ahh, nostalgie...

  • anyone remembers a name of PC game, similar to boulder dash? it was something like SUP, SUPPER, or SUPPAPLEX.

  • Supaplex. I was looking up remixes of the theme tune and found the name accidentally.

  • Hello: This game has o be one of the greatest games ever made, and the music is unforgettable too :P. Nice video!

  • i remeber, it was my time, when i played that game in my childrenhood. now i'm 21, but found that game for windows xp^^ youll see

  • Great to hear that loading sound  and the Song title ^_^

  • Hahaha, that took a LONG time to load up.

  • I had Boulder dash on my C64 too lol, i got it free with zzapp mag, i loved the construction kit that came free with it

  • Hey people! I had this game with a comletely different music, which was a hundred times greater. Anybody knows something about that copy of it?

  • Boulder Dash II perhaps?

  • No, I said completely different, not this beep sound. Maybe it was a fully unique copy, someone changed its music. Someone must have had it also, at least in this country, but only several people saves these games onto their PCs.

  • maybe you had the game boy version?

i have the game boy versien since i was little (actually i "had", can't find it anymore :( ), and looking at this video it copies the levels exactly. but it has better visuals and music. i really loved it and still like it a lot :) right now i am playing boulder dash rocks for nintendo DS, which also is very good :)

  • On what computer? For the Amiga there was a remake called Emerald Mines, which became even more popular than the original, probably because of really great sound and graphics.

  • me dieron ganas de llorar.amo este juego

  • Gee, I was looking for that opening tune for some years to listen to it just to make sure that it's exellent.

  • I made a tribute version of this song. I can't put the URL here but this search in google may help: atari boulderdash.mp3 franco catrin

  • sadly i wasn't able to go to your blog and planeta gnome sites, where google ask me to go to for it.... I'm going to try it once again later on.

  • y love this game

  • I have this game for the Tandy. Too bad the computer broke. And is lying in the garage. Along with the game. I'm gonna fetch it out now.

  • I don't think thats an atari, i think its a Commadore 64

  • I have both, that's pretty obviously an Atari, not a C64.

  • It is an Atari. It is my Atari 800XL...

  • did you really have to devote half a minute to the bootup sequence?

  • of course he did. That's what brought back all the memories!!!

  • Yes, because it shows how long the bootup took before the game was loaded. It is part of the ambiance.
