lethwei means "kickboxing" in Burmese. It doesn't deal with ground fights. There is an art called "naban" which uses choking, clinching, grappling techniques for ground fights, but it is not as popular as lethwei in Burma.
That's why its called Leth Wei not MMA. MMA = mixed martial arts meaning stand up is just one aspect of MMA. This is a display of the stand up portion just like in K-1 you dont ground people either.
I wonder what Karate style Yamamoto practices. He certainly didn't have a kyokushin stance.
I think a Kyokushin fighter would've fared better as Kyokushin is mostly full-contact and they can take a good bit of punishment... plus, they use low kicks a lot more.

Anyways, wen the professional fighters from myanmar face opponents from other countries, they win over 90 percent of the fights. Just search it on youtube. in this event, japanese fighters came to burma and 2 of them lost, one was a draw and one japanese fighter won. There has been more fighters recently when lethwei fighters went 2 japan and most of the burmese fighters won.lone chaw, saw zwel lay, tato wa etc
the karate fighters are jsut as skilled and might win under different rules but they look like they have less fighting experience and cannot deal with punishment

burmese boxing does not hav any points. if neither fighter gets knocked out, then it ends up in a draw. however, in the golden belt championships, there is points as a fighter must win in order to continue in the tournament

it's the same the other way around.
don't forget that most mma fighters have a jui-juitsu or wrestling background,they're groundfighters.
ground fighters aren't necessarily stronger in a standing fight,in contrary.
i seen many MMA fighters lose when they fight in kickboxing.
same goes the other way around.
Another reason why a MMA fighter would be in disadvantage in a standing fight is that overall they're less agile and slower
kickboxers train on speed,endurance and stamina.
