@paintitblack01 the instant loop feature is not available on the professional CDjs . b/c its not accurate. the mixer is better at detecting bpm down to the millisecond. the 1000's (club standard) dont have the instant loop, they have cue points
@paintitblack01 The ROLL effect if slightly different from a LOOP. Sometimes the effect is also called a Loop roll, so its kinda confusing. Although u can loop with cdjs, once you leave the loop, the cdj takes you straight back to where you left off, ie AT THE END OF THE LOOP. The roll (or loop roll) also loops the music, but when you disengage the effect, you jump to the point in the track where you would have been had you not used the effect at all. Sorry for the caps, tryin to be clear :)

yeah, yeah yeah i thought we'd get the dj police along :) most studios use them, if you are mixing 3 sources then you often dont get time to find the perfect pitch. They are usefull to have if you want to attempt complex mixing and not have to focus on just getting the beats in time
For anyone who owns a DJM-400 I found that the robot feature is pretty useless. Until i was fooling around with it I discovered a decent use to it. Put the Level/depth all the way down with the tempo set to 4 - 1/1. From there, turn on the effect (you won't hear a difference). Furthermore, Use the Beat/Pitch buttons (+/-) to change the pitch of your music. It changes the pitch of your song with the but keeps the tempo the same. Downside = sounds quite "digital"...
I have the djm400 and that's defiantly my favorite feature as well. Even better is after a sample is "rolling" at say 1/1 time, you can increase the time to 1/2, 1/4 ect... and you get that build-up effect then drop the beat. Amazing little mixer!

Well said. I've tried the CDJ400 and if you are thinking on using it for many gigs and what not it may break down. I own a pair of the CDJ800Mk2's and they feel much more forgiving and reliable. CDJ 800 and 1000's are the tanks of CDJ's.
can you controll the X Y parameters when using the affects...for ex when using flanger can you keep it at a high note or put it to a low note and keep it there with the dial?
the djm400 has a few things that the djm600 does not..the 600 is not the 400's superior..impossible, how cud it be,wen the 400 has the new in loop sampler and the 600 dusnt...the 400 has the fader start function which is awesome..the 600 does not have phaser,robot or roll effect..the djm400 is the best 2 channel mixer on the market..the djm800 is its 4 channel superior..the djm600 is outta here!!
you probably alredy know but you didnt show it in the vid but when the roll feature is on if you press the up or down keys on the beat thingy then the roll will go at 1 beat, half a beat, then quater beat and so on :) lil bit of info :D xxxx.....still want tht god dam mixer:P

i can personally vouch that this feature is great for chopping up dnb, jungle, dub, and breaks. if you can't figure out how to manipulate features, it just means you aren't being creative.

on the djm 800 u got a rev roll does the same but backwards reverses the sound its crazy the 400 is like a mini 800 i heard someone say but the 800 is better i think after watchin all the vids on here i learn more about it yep yep it is good effect deffonatly use it at the end ov a mix on 1 channel then fade out wen u want with 800 u could use colour effects to do that even better
here is waht happenes: im playing a track on a cdj, the auto BPM is on, and when i press the effects button on, the loop starts, but over some tim the loop and the music go offbeat, so i try to speed up the track on the CDJ the loop speeds up too, so i try without auto BPM count, and its not working, what should i do >.>
Thats a problem that I think won't be solved in some time, the problem is the effect system just stucks to the beat it reads, and the system reads beat per beat, doesn't have more resolution. Lets say the song is 128.3 BPM, so the mixer will read "128BPM" and the song will be out of time no matter what you do if you keep the sample going. If you speed up the thing it will speed it up according to the CDJ percentage, but it will be according to the first BPM reading, so it will be off beat.
I have two questions about the DJM-400. First, do the EQs kill all the way? & With headphones plugged into the mixer, can the EQ adjustments be heard in the headphones.
I hope you'll answer this question cause I can't wait to find an answer from somebody. I've seen several demonstrations with the DJM-400 mixpanel, but every single one of em use CDJ's. Is this because you need CDJ's to use all of the loop functions and stuff or will technics sl-1200 suffice? I don't know how the recording of the loop and all works and the beat change blablablabla, so yeah, do you need cdj's or are tt's compatible with all of those effects aswell?
tojamirophan, it will sample the music being played through the chenell and once sampled it will then loop it, with ref to the other fx , all the mixer does is change the sound as it comes into the mixer and playes it out through the output and then into the speakers .

the 600 is the 400's superior so there are no features that the 400 has that the 600 doesnt.
but i find the 400 alot easier to start on and unless you're dealing with 4 channels you wont need the 600

here is waht happenes: im playing a track on a cdj, the auto BPM is on, and when i press the effects button on, the loop starts, but over some tim the loop and the music go offbeat, so i try to speed up the track on the CDJ the loop speeds up too, so i try without auto BPM count, and its not working, what should i do >.>

Thats a problem that I think won't be solved in some time, the problem is the effect system just stucks to the beat it reads, and the system reads beat per beat, doesn't have more resolution. Lets say the song is 128.3 BPM, so the mixer will read "128BPM" and the song will be out of time no matter what you do if you keep the sample going. If you speed up the thing it will speed it up according to the CDJ percentage, but it will be according to the first BPM reading, so it will be off beat.

I have two questions about the DJM-400. First, do the EQs kill all the way? & With headphones plugged into the mixer, can the EQ adjustments be heard in the headphones.

I hope you'll answer this question cause I can't wait to find an answer from somebody. I've seen several demonstrations with the DJM-400 mixpanel, but every single one of em use CDJ's. Is this because you need CDJ's to use all of the loop functions and stuff or will technics sl-1200 suffice? I don't know how the recording of the loop and all works and the beat change blablablabla, so yeah, do you need cdj's or are tt's compatible with all of those effects aswell?

tojamirophan, you can use any music source, cdj/ vinyl turntable , mp3 player , casset player , all you need is music!

tojamirophan, it will sample the music being played through the chenell and once sampled it will then loop it, with ref to the other fx , all the mixer does is change the sound as it comes into the mixer and playes it out through the output and then into the speakers .

I have the djm-400 and i use my technics with it! its great. Yeah like ellaskins said u can use any source of audio!
