Just back from Eddie Turnbull's funeral, a sad occasion. Then I come across this and, BANG - the sun is out again!! Not old enough to have seen 'The Famous Five' play but was privileged to witness 'Turnbull's Tornadoes' - Thank you, Mr Turnbull for making my teenage years so idyllic !
My gran lived at 67 Lochend Road South but I was born in '56 so too young to see the famous five. My dad and uncles talked about them all the time even though the early 70's team was very entertaining without winning too much. I did attend Gordon Smith's testimonial at Powderhall sometime in the sixties. I had Gordon's and Bill Shankly's (the manager at the time) autographs from that game. It's a pity there's not better footage from those days.
You've missed a fair few good Hibs sides since those days to be fair, but the Hibs side which "included" the Famous Five were by all accounts the best of the lot.

Good video, however the famous five may well have been great, Hibs team of the 40s and 50s were nowhere near as successful as the great Rangers side of that era, Treble winners in 49, many other league title and Scottish cup wins.
First time I've ever seen the famous five in colour. The top tier of the terracing just being built as well. Thank you for putting this on here, it's just fantastic.

What do you mean "Hibs Famous Five"?
Surely, you mean "Hibs Famous Eleven"?
Younger, Govan, Howie, Buchanan, Paterson, Combe, Smith, Johnson, Reilly, Turnbull, Ormond.
I lived in Lochend Road South at the time, but left Scotland in 1952 and haven't seen the Hibs since.
