@enjoi46 dark souls in my opinion is the more polished game, yeah its harder, but its just a little bit better don't get me wrong. demon souls is amazing I just think that dark souls just has a bit more to it

But now we have the stories, so that is why games aren't as hard today. they simply don't need to be. Demon's Souls takes us 15 years back. @GpB217 It's not that easy to tell a good story, believe it or not. Not for games. But it is nevertheless true that the story is used to carry a lot of games around now, regardless of how mediocre the stories may be.
But good story and good gameplay don't have to be two separate entities. System Shock 2 was a game that had a great story as well as having great gameplay, which was also very hard. Bioshock on the otherhand, kept the story part but completely dumbed down the gameplay for the kids.

@GpB217 the lack of story was something that actually put me off it for a while. I mean why play it when I can play Metal Gear Solid 4 or Uncharted 2, right. But after strong persuasion from a friend I bought Demon's Souls. At first I was really turned off because of it's excrutiating difficulty, but I stuck with it and eventualy began to love it. I beat the Dark Knight on 1-1(who's guarding King Doran) at level 20 with a Spear(which I'm also found of as I play Dynasty Warriors a lot as Zhao Yun). Took 7 or so tries. Basically taught me everything I needed to know about 1v1 battles vs AI in D'sS.
Felt like I was Link. False King felt like Ganondorf

The deaths are never unfair??? Are you fucking kidding me? They did not even play this. What a Paid For Review. I don't hate this game but 9's for a game as infuriating as this is not deserving. Especially when there is serious issues with the controls and tutorial. Not to mention theres some horrible design choices that make you backtrack through already played levels for hours just to get health potions. This is a 6.5 and should be considered a niche game.
@SnugOFP Gonna disagree. I've been playing it for the last 3 weeks and can't get enough of it. I'm at the False King, but haven't beat him yet. The controls feel great to me, but targeting has got me killed a few times, due to the sensitivty of being able to jump from one target to another, but not meaning too. The game is a challenge, but it's so satisfying accomplishing tasks. And when you make it to a boss and die, the game is setup so theres usually shortcuts back. Cant wait for Dark Souls

Please help me! I just got the game and i love it but i can't understand how to move back (not jump) and to the side (moving circles) around enemy. I saw it in this video and i think it will make my life in this game easier. Also i can't understand how to cast magic. I have learnt Flame toss magic and remembered it but i can't figure out which buttons should i push and which actions to do to cast it. It's icon always transparent. Please advice!.

@FunkyMonky1171 My mage can kill that Dragon is 10 hits (and I have done it few times). That dragon isnt a real boss. It is more if a bonus dragon which you can kill if you feel like. I like this game. It's tricky but so far I don't think it's as hard as people say. There's a knack to each enemy you have to figure out. Main problem is that the game explains very little. Not saying it's easy at all though.
My main problem is that the game is so dark sometimes you can only see about a foot in front of you.
@MNiTFTW No, the game has 5 worlds connected by a "hub" called Nexus, which is where you buy items, level up etc. The worlds are huge if a tad linear.
thats a utter lie about the town portal thing. you CAN get right back to the nexus by either archstone peices or nexial binding. one drops your souls, the ohter lets you keep them.
Best game ever. Can't wait for Dark Souls. I'm obsessed. I've played all the best games but NEVER have I felt the way about a game the way I do about this series. A must buy period.
@LiamNeesonsDick However all of those are one-way tickets back to the Nexus and do not function like the Scrolls of Town Portal in the Diablo series--once you're back in the Nexus, you will have to backtrack. You should really have known about Town Portal scrolls before that comment, considering you made such a point about it.

@CrippledKnight If you enjoy dungeon crawlers than this game is right for you. It isn't "plotless" its just not too attached to its plot, and it isn't super detailed. It still has a storyline, just not as in depth and captivating than other games like it. Although, Demon's Souls definitely makes up for it with its smooth control/gameplay mechanics, its numerous spells/magic, the variety of weapons and armor, its innovative multiplayer system, and its one of a kind replay value.
To anyone wanting a sequel to this, good news. From Software already announced a follow-up called Dark Souls, which they claim will be even harder than Demon's Souls. There are news that some might consider bad. (raises anti-fanboy shield) Dark Souls will also be released on the 360, staying a PS3 exclusive only in Japan.

I love this game, I was able to beat it the first time with major difficult, thehe second time with a new character proved Easier but still Difficult. Sad part is...I LOST MY SAVE FILES T_T
@bennythepenny9 What do you mean there is no difficulty Level? Its a very hard game that gets easier the more you play it, the fact is once you beat the game you start an NG+ game (which is alot more harder) with the character you used to beat the game.
I beat it with alot of difficulty my first play through, and Then I beat it while having a much easier time while playing with a new character. Only now with the new character I'm attempting to beat NG+ which proved much harder.
Got it today. Got the edition with the art book and soundtrack...Read through the game manual and the art book, listening to the soundtrack now. Should get around to the game in a few days - I also got Dead Rising 2, Saint's Row 2, and Batman Arkham Asylum, so I gotta prioritize.
@wrestler375 Run past him towards the door on the other side. Theres a safe spot near there that you can shoot it with arrows or spells. Search for tips on beating him on youtube if you need a visual guide.

Please help me! I just got the game and i love it but i can't understand how to move back (not jump) and to the side (moving circles) around enemy. I saw it in this video and i think it will make my life in this game easier. Also i can't understand how to cast magic. I have learnt Flame toss magic and remembered it but i can't figure out which buttons should i push and which actions to do to cast it. It's icon always transparent. Please advice!.

if you press R3 (the right analog stick) you´ll lock on to the nearest enemy, enabling circle strafe and whatnot.
to cast magic you´ll need a wand equipped, there´s one in 1-2

@FunkyMonky1171 My mage can kill that Dragon is 10 hits (and I have done it few times). That dragon isnt a real boss. It is more if a bonus dragon which you can kill if you feel like. Your stupid comment simply proves that you havent even touched the game and just watched some random videos people killing that dragon.

I like this game. It's tricky but so far I don't think it's as hard as people say. There's a knack to each enemy you have to figure out. Main problem is that the game explains very little. Not saying it's easy at all though.
My main problem is that the game is so dark sometimes you can only see about a foot in front of you.

@MNiTFTW No, the game has 5 worlds connected by a "hub" called Nexus, which is where you buy items, level up etc. The worlds are huge if a tad linear.

There are a number of ways to get back to the Nexus without backtracking.
You really should have known this before this review, considering you made such a point about it.
Shards of archstone, nexial binding, and a miracle all allow you to instantaneously go back to the Nexus. All can be used during boss battles.

@LiamNeesonsDick However all of those are one-way tickets back to the Nexus and do not function like the Scrolls of Town Portal in the Diablo series--once you're back in the Nexus, you will have to backtrack. You should really have known about Town Portal scrolls before that comment, considering you made such a point about it.

@CrippledKnight If you enjoy dungeon crawlers than this game is right for you. It isn't "plotless" its just not too attached to its plot, and it isn't super detailed. It still has a storyline, just not as in depth and captivating than other games like it. Although, Demon's Souls definitely makes up for it with its smooth control/gameplay mechanics, its numerous spells/magic, the variety of weapons and armor, its innovative multiplayer system, and its one of a kind replay value.

To anyone wanting a sequel to this, good news. From Software already announced a follow-up called Dark Souls, which they claim will be even harder than Demon's Souls. There are news that some might consider bad. (raises anti-fanboy shield) Dark Souls will also be released on the 360, staying a PS3 exclusive only in Japan.

I love this game, I was able to beat it the first time with major difficult, thehe second time with a new character proved Easier but still Difficult. Sad part is...I LOST MY SAVE FILES T_T

@bennythepenny9 What do you mean there is no difficulty Level? Its a very hard game that gets easier the more you play it, the fact is once you beat the game you start an NG+ game (which is alot more harder) with the character you used to beat the game.
I beat it with alot of difficulty my first play through, and Then I beat it while having a much easier time while playing with a new character. Only now with the new character I'm attempting to beat NG+ which proved much harder.

Got it today. Got the edition with the art book and soundtrack...Read through the game manual and the art book, listening to the soundtrack now. Should get around to the game in a few days - I also got Dead Rising 2, Saint's Row 2, and Batman Arkham Asylum, so I gotta prioritize.

@wrestler375 Run past him towards the door on the other side. Theres a safe spot near there that you can shoot it with arrows or spells. Search for tips on beating him on youtube if you need a visual guide.
