What was so amazing about Tribe was that they were developing a musical architecture that is still pretty much unique to Tribe alone. I call it Transcendental Structure. Each part of the song takes you to a "higher plane" of emotion/energy. Nothing like the verse/chorus which always returns to where it started with just a few different words.
Tribe could generate an incredible amount of emotion in a short pop song using this approach.
Its almost too much to bear to be able to see Tribe again.
I never knew of them when I went to see the Psychedelic Furs at Metropol in the Pittsburgh Strip District. Tribe opened and people were just milling around since no one had ever heard of them and just wanted to see the Furs anyway.
Well, about 1/2 way into the set, the music and that "black haired girl" were really starting to make some sense. By the end, I was hook line and sinker. The Furs really sucked afterwords.
Thanks for this great post. Tribe = Excellent Had the honor of booking a band I managed to open for them a couple of times at Bunratty's. One night they came out and played two encores "Jak" by Volcano Suns and "Downtown" by Petula Clark. They ripped the joint apart! The original "Here at The Home" on Danny Bennett's Rutbaga label was truly awesome with the original demos of abort and other gems. The overproduced sound on the later turned me off. Live always a good rock'n time.
@berky1 I seen them many times around Boston. The played "Are Friends Electric" by Gary Numan at the Channel(miss that place also).I went backstage at the Paradise,I gave a copy of this video to Janet.I froze when I met her(never happened before),She was so sweet with her greeting voice,I just couldn't speak.I just gave her the tape then went over to Tami Heide(WBCN),she got me into most of the shows around Boston.I miss TRIBE.
@lordmjh Thanks for sharing your wonderful message and experience with meeting Janet and Tami. I remember when Tami used to spin at the Channel. I actually worked at the Channel in the booking and promotions office as an internship in college which was located on Washington Street upstairs in the old beautiful theatre which was defunct at the time. On my Youtube channel I've uploaded several hours of footage of Boston bands from two cable shows I produced circa 1986 so please check it out.

this show was such a blast. they deserved national success but had the unfortunate timing to release "abort" in the wake of grunge. great memories seeing these guys playing little clubs like tt the bear's in cambridge and covering odds and ends from boc's godzilla to petula clark's downtown.
Not the best quality, but I'd say a convincing testimony to one of the best ," 90's bands you never heard of ", Boston's Tribe, Great memories--had to share;)
well, i´ll gladly do it, when the time allows... :) besides that i´ve got troubles with WMG and their copyrights bullshit. they are objecting nearly every my vid... :-/
well, my dead can dance video is online again. but i´m checking my youtube account only 1x per month... apparently, other videos are banned - locally. it´s ridiculous somehow...

Keeroy, you're one of YouTube's primary Tribeists... why don't you put the album version of "Easter Dinner" on YT? (And "Daddy's Home," and "Tied.")

@keeroy Wow, are they still doing that? After WMG reached a new agreement with YouTube last fall I thought they would calm down about copyright.
