hes also got a white fender strat 1954 serial numer 0001 possibly the first strat ever made thats debateable but certainly the first to be finished on the production line
It's unfortunate that in the later years of Pink Floyd it really just became one giant guitar solo. Gilmour's been playing the same solo over and over now for around 20 years or so.
sounds good, but i think gilmour sounds better on hes red and white guitar (the one he uses på the pulse tour) in about every clip ive heard :/ at least I like that sound better :)
I don't want David Gilmour's strat because it would just be me trying to be like him. Instead, im getting my own black strat with different pickups for both metal and classic and going my own way in order to find my self. Like every other guitarist, you take what they know and make ur own way and play the songs any way desired.
Well, I don't fancy using other people's gear and sound.
However, I do dig the looks on this guitar, so I put a black pickguard on my black Strat. Custom Shop as well, suppose the pickups are different though, they don't sound nearly similar, however I do really dig the sound on mine.
So, lads, I don't want to tell you what to do, but I personally think you are better off pursuing your own sound than mimicking. Of course, you are free to disagree, my opinion ain't worth 2 cents.
@Natmossbim123 The sound you like is very personal, he insists on the strat because that is what works for him. Different strokes for different folks :)
he sad that they try 100 of pickup types and compered them to his because he uses EMC pickups and after some research of checking all the manufactures semor duncin damarzo and stuff the only one that has hes name is EMC at least now i don't now about the 70's sory about the spelling
David brings out the soul in the strings to emancipate to us all in euphonious, and swooning dreams of melodious fantasy and feeling. I don't know how else to say how you make me feel when I listen the likes of "Comfortably numb" "One Of These Days" Dark side of the Moon etc. Your music has a soul!
Been listening for 35 years and will always be your biggest fan
All be it I have lived outside the realm of concert tours, so I have never been to a concert of any kind. A Masters hands you have sir.
I built my own from Warmoth. There is nothing on this earth better than building your own, and there is no better parts to be had than Warmoth. I have done several, including Angus Young's SG, SRV's "Lenny", Clapton's "Blackie" as well as Gilmour's. I don't relic them. I used to, but when selling, people want to age them naturally themselves. I am working on his red Strat with the EMG set that he uses. I LOVE IT!
I know this is a stunning guitar, but I hope the younger folks realize that David would sound like David even if he were playing a Gibson SG with a broken string. His style is more important than his specific guitar. Just like your lyrics are more important than the paper you write them on. Work on your own sound and style. One day people will recognize you just by the sound of your playing.
@DukeStarbuckle One thing is mosy Gibsons backk then had Tremelos. If so, limGibsons aerr great guitars, but not much for a vibroto player. Byt then you get into teh Floyrd Rose days
Soundwise - No point making changes to at guitar not healthy sounding to begin with. It may improve slightly but will unlikely rise above mediocre - buy a real instrument from the outset. No point changing a healthy instrument with real character beyond details based on an understanding of its inherent nature. Get the right style of instrument to begin with.
Or spend dollars on constructing bland, reanimated zombie guitars with no discernable traits at ur leisure ...
@Darryld1- I have to agree with you. I have played this Black Relic, and although it is nice, I have a black FSR Fender Strat that looks exactly the same (all black with cream white pick-up covers, and knobs), and it plays and sounds just as nice, only I payed $360 US dollars for it used, rather than my right arm and left leg. And for that price is produces the SAME outcome. I am a huge Gilmour Fan, and that is the only reason I bought it. Other than that, I do not buy signature guitars. They a
I can listen to David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck all day long.
Pink Floyd shows were something special and I''ve grown up loving The Dark ripping bass and sweet riffs of Pink Floyd. (Think of ther bass line to One of these days and the solo in Young Lust....)
"when you're ready". When Fender stop marketing names and focus on build quality and price. David Gilmour even said in this ad that he bought his original strat in Mannys for not a lot. So why does this unlimited run cost £2,500 upwards in the UK?
@zvikad thanks for the advice.. you'll be happy to know i bought a Black relic last month from my regular music store here in the UK.. for £3000.. and it plays like a dream.
@JeffBend well first of all its a fender stratocaster, second of all its a david gilmor stratocaster replica so... just wanna say im envy as hell at u :)
The 2008 Fender Stratocaster American Standard is similar.. I mean it's not the same, but I have one and my Pink Floyd covers are good .. anyways the Black strat is the queen of Strats >_>

I bet this strat cost an arm and leg. Damn you Fender, I'm sure Leo would disprove. Then again, he did sell Fender to the giant CBS.
