  • I own the one on the left, but the one on the right is the rarer one.

  • ebaying a batch of nasties at the moment if anyone's interested. Search '6 pre cert video nasties'

  • Excellent - I own the one on the left. Rare as hell - very nice ;)

  • I have both of those, plus I have another version of the "silouhette" cover which has a cut version of the film on. Its the same artwork but says "certificate X" instead of "uncensored" on the front.

These would have been rental releases, pre-recorded sell-through tapes didn't start appearing in the UK till late 1984, up till then all we had was rental

  • @DarkAngel182 true, and the major studios like Paramount and Universal didn't start sell thru until 1988 - it was a time when I had to scour the video libraries for ex-rental big box copies!!!

  • your obsessed dude

  • is there stuff they show in those copies they dont on the regular dvd versions?

  • @fuckyou51000 No it's the same as the uncut dvd version.

  • @discjunkietv oh. wel tho they may be the exact same thing thats a cool find

  • There was also a cut version of texas chainsaw released onto tape, which said "X rated" on it, but used the same cover.

Ive got all 3 on my latest video about my VHS collection (a shameless plug)!

  • who are u on the site then?

  • @lastmarine Who am I on what site?

  • @discjunkietv if your into pre-certs u should be sure to join pre-cert.co.uk

  • Hi, from the UK, nice releases, got both of these in my collection from the pre-cert days. However, Chainsaw was also released in a Certificate X release from Iver Films, in identical packaging ( apart from the Cert X on the cover and label) as the sillouette release and missing a few frames from the uncut print. Literally seconds were missing from the carve up scene after the meathook hanging!!!

  • Kept a few of my old VHS that I havent seen out on dvd. Was kind of cooler to show off your collection when there was a few hundred of these on the shelfes :D

  • Cool vids, I remember finding the Iver one on the left in a video shop in Highgate in London in about 1994 (amazingly still out for rental), I managed to persuade them to sell it to me for £10. I'm pretty certain Iver never had side labels, most of their releases had gold title stickers, TCM was the exception. A close friend has earlier Iver editions of it, they use the artwork on the left and one is a cardboard carton and the other is a huge box that was prob the very first issue.

  • Great great update.. Those two editions are really cool... The film is one that really suits that collectable format.. Fantastic update. :) Old skool is kool

  • You and your Texas Chainsaw Massacres lol. You might aswell get a bunch of versions of the sequels lol

  • They're both amazing editions!! great video and very informative as well.

Keep up the good work, mate :D

  • very cool and most pre certs are costly.

  • The worn out covers just add to the flavor of such as bad ass horror film. What are your thoughts of the old film compared to the 2003 remake? Good vid keep them comin!

  • @theFLICKpick I saw them very much back to back and it was the first time I saw either of them (I didn't grow up watching horror so I only saw these films during the last year). I really think both are great. I think there are good a bad parts in both and I think that the remake is a surprisingly good remake - not just a copy fo the original but with it's own twists that still stay true to the original in a lot of ways. For short it does it's own thing but still captures a lot of what we loved.

  • Love the cover art on both. Great vid, man!

  • stupid question, but I don't know...

Do video cassettes have regions or do they all play everywhere?

  • @Andrew51287 They don't have regions but they are encoded PAL or NTSC. Later VCRs play both but in the old days they players only had one encoding.

  • @discjunkietv interesting

  • @discjunkietv before vhs there was betamax videos in the uk, if you can find the texas chainsaw on beta, then you have something special. vhs eventually became more popular rather like cd's taking over record sales.

the black, white and red cover was the 1st version of the film i saw years and years ago :-)

  • @ItsMeTNG Yeah I got a couple editions of Boondock Saints. Check discjunkie-dot-se for more info :)

  • @REMIXTHATSONGG I pray you're joking. LOL ;)

  • cool pickups

  • Those are awesome looking vhs tapes. I have never seen those covers before.

  • Is that an Academy Award on the cover?

  • @CinemaniacSeventy7 How bizarre.

  • @CinemaniacSeventy7 It looks like it but it has IFS (Iver Film Services) on it. Maybe they just copied the icon and used it in their logo. I have no idea.

  • I don't know if you have this product in your country but you can try some Goo Gone to try & get rid of those stamp marks on the case. Alcohol may work too.

  • They would have both been rentals, and as they were banned and on the "video Nasty" list they would have mostly been destroyed.

A few would have been rented on the hush hush as an under the counter rental

  • @dvdmike007 Very interesting. :)

  • Another great video!! Oh, and i loved the stuff you sent the Jasons over at Cackalackymovies, and i think it would be great if you did a video just highlighting some of the favorite steelbooks you own.

  • @ItsMeTNG It's The Prestige actually. :)

  • I am going to start getting more pre-certs soon to join my evil dead

  • Wow wow wow; huge Chainsaw fan myself, amazed at the releases you get your hands on. The meatpack package was also great.

Keep up the good work, it's people like you keeping these rarities alive and from going extinct.

Still looking forward to your Their Law review :P

  • I would say that if both these vhs were released in 1984 then they will most definitely both have been rental copies , from what I remember vhs were not easily available to buy till about 1989 - 90 onwards , but i maybe wrong

  • @SCOTTISHFILMFAN I don't know when they were released exactly but the Video Recording Act came into effect in 1984 so definitely prior to that. After the review I also found a stamp on the back of the inlay of the Capricorn Video one that reads "2 SEP 1982", so I'm guessing that might have been the year it came out. Not sure about the other one though as it doesn't have any kind of markings showing a year.
