I had two castlevania games. One called Symphony of the Night and the other one was supposedly Lamnent of Innocence. LoI sucked and reminded me too much about Devil May Cry which in my opinion sucks, but I thought SotN was good but very difficult.
You should do Bart Vs. the Space Mutants.. that game was ridiculous, I could never get passed the 1st level. It seemed fun though, it was probably something like kneeling against the wall though like in this one to get to level 2. Haha.

I played this when i was 5 years old.....94 or so. I loved it. The kneeling did take me like 5 solid nights to figure out, stayed up till like 4 am to play it :P It was great for me though. The music was so good at night and I figured the game out with my grandma. IT was more of the mood of playing than anything else and using ur brain. It was fun in its day :)
The biggest roadblock for me in this game is the ferry man not taking me to the castle where I get Dracula's Eye and the Golden Knife. The one time he didn't mislead me, which was a couple days ago, I beat the game. Other than the ferry man misleading me on most attempts, I thought it was a good game.
The ferryman will take you to the castle if you have Dracula's Heart equipped when talking to him, you also need to talk to him from the right side of the Dead River. He should say "Let me show you the way." and he will then take you to the castle.
Is this the only game where the hero dies after you won the battle? I played this game, like 12 or 13 years ago a few times, and it was rather forgettable, but I never heard about the hero dying in the end.
Some good points, but eh.. the secret books are one, and Dracula was easy, but i was a kid and i beat it soundly without any help, including the kneeling. I never cared about the day/night thing either. I didn't mind that you died when falling in water, there's easily hundreds of games like that. I liked the fact that Dracula's castle was empty, added to the weird and eerie feel of the place. I think you wanted an action game and got an adventure.

Cheesy modern games have spoiled many younger players, it seems. This is the moodiest, most mystifying game I've ever played.
I agree, this is a great game, and for a kid growing up in the nes era, it was one of the few games that was really scary. i remember turning down the volume during the password entry part when i played at night. And what's wrong with a flame whip? seems cool enough to me. and it doesn't take that long to get hearts, it's not like dragon warrior or something. I think this is not a very fair review, and too much swearing detracts from the credibility.

I you all notice, this game has different endings, 3 as I remmeber, depending how fast you kill dracula, if you do it before 7 game days you will see the best ending, if that can answer the day and night question.

Jesus Christ, IN ALMOST ANY GAME FROM THE 80s YOU DIE WHEN YOU FALL IN WATER. That includes the original Castlevania. Castlevania 2 was the best of the old series because it required a brain to get through. If it's too tough for you, maybe you should stick to 1 and 3 - just walk in a straight line and hit the B button and you'll be fine.
PS- I beat this game when it came out; I was about 10 years old. No internet to look up the secrets or any shit like that. The cliff stuff was just a matter of trial and error. I must say though that I found your swearing pretty amusing. Some good rants!
I applaud Konami for doing something as ambitious as this. The ironic thing is that this project should've been saved for the next-gen consoles rather than the 8-16 bit consoles since expansive games are much better suited for next-gen consoles(i.e. Morrowind, Oblivion, Ocarina of Time, Shenmue, Myst)

You know something? I never knew about that tornado thing until I picked up the Simon's Quest Worlds of Power book and yet I still beat that game without the tornado. He's got a point about the passwords though. Long-winded passwords weren't really necessary even back in the day.
Forgot to mention, shut the hell up about the fire whip. Undead monsters are weak against fire. What the hell else would be the strongest whip-type in the game? Zombies are weak against fire. Fire Whip = the ultimate kind of whip. Lastly, don't jump off the ledge for a shirtcut, walk off it. You'll fall straight down, avoiding any water.
Screw this review. If it weren't for Castlevania 2, we'd be trapped forever in the style of Castlevania that had a game timer and no strategy at all. Castlevania 2 is the grandfather of the RPG-styled games that are so much more popular.

Wow, I must admit this really was funny. However this as my favorite game (along with River City Ransom) for the NES. While this was my favorite Castlevania game due to the RPG elements, I can see how frustrating it can get. I spent hours looking for how to get to each mansion/castle.

Jesus Christ, IN ALMOST ANY GAME FROM THE 80s YOU DIE WHEN YOU FALL IN WATER. That includes the original Castlevania. Castlevania 2 was the best of the old series because it required a brain to get through. If it's too tough for you, maybe you should stick to 1 and 3 - just walk in a straight line and hit the B button and you'll be fine.

PS- I beat this game when it came out; I was about 10 years old. No internet to look up the secrets or any shit like that. The cliff stuff was just a matter of trial and error. I must say though that I found your swearing pretty amusing. Some good rants!

I applaud Konami for doing something as ambitious as this. The ironic thing is that this project should've been saved for the next-gen consoles rather than the 8-16 bit consoles since expansive games are much better suited for next-gen consoles(i.e. Morrowind, Oblivion, Ocarina of Time, Shenmue, Myst)

You know something? I never knew about that tornado thing until I picked up the Simon's Quest Worlds of Power book and yet I still beat that game without the tornado. He's got a point about the passwords though. Long-winded passwords weren't really necessary even back in the day.

Forgot to mention, shut the hell up about the fire whip. Undead monsters are weak against fire. What the hell else would be the strongest whip-type in the game? Zombies are weak against fire. Fire Whip = the ultimate kind of whip. Lastly, don't jump off the ledge for a shirtcut, walk off it. You'll fall straight down, avoiding any water.

Wow, I must admit this really was funny. However this as my favorite game (along with River City Ransom) for the NES. While this was my favorite Castlevania game due to the RPG elements, I can see how frustrating it can get. I spent hours looking for how to get to each mansion/castle.
